    You are an amazing person. A mom and a writer, you always have some cool books you're working on and are doing all this other stuff. How do you do it? Pro tasker!

    You are so right, Mandi. As someone who has designed quite a few covers, I agree with all your points. My favorite is the one you saved for last...writers thinking that they are the "exception to the rule." That kind of thinking has ruined the prospects of lots of self-published books...and those writers never understand why their books were flops. I would add one more point to your list of mistakes, and that is the fallacy that just because you are a writer, and you have a computer and a graphics program, you can design your own cover. The reality is that you put so much into writing your book...you are going to waste all that by going cheap on your cover. Isn't your book worth a professional cover?

    I'm seeing many self-pub authors using AI generated art and color schemes that all end up looking exactly the same. I'm also seeing they are not selling many books on Amazon, or getting many reviews. Whereas I agree that the cover is very important and should match the genre, I'm skeptical that inserting the cookie-cutter for genre art would be advantageous. I'm of the opinion that the book title and promotional strategy are much more important. Do you agree?

    I just found you and, WOW, I'm impressed! I love how you jump right into the subject, rather than all the promo some other creators do. You are a 'no nonsense' instructor, which I def appreciate. Thanks for all the info and tips!

    Thanks for the info, good video. I'm on the verge of publishing my first book and took a look at Unlimited. Experience has always shown me that when someone can't clearly tell you how your end of the revenue is calculated, then watch out! I dont like that Amazon basically "hides" that information from authors. So I decided to pass on it.

    I use both PS & Canva and have to admit for a small fee, Canva is great, one can certainly make text look less flat, it's a matter of being creative and playing around, there are also many tuts on manipulating text

    Hi Mandi, could you please make a video on how to publish a 2nd edition using new ISBNs for the books that were earlier published on KDP and link those books together so that they are jot listed as 2 separate books, please? My son wrote a book and I want to use KDPs free ISBN since trying to keep our costs low but in future if the book sells well and we want to expand to other platforms, what would we need to do?

  • @Soakedmelody
    @Soakedmelody7 күн бұрын

    Hi, if we get a free ISBN from KDP and want the local library or bookstores to order our books, can they still order our books from Amazon? I read somewhere that if you want to have your book bought by local libraries or book stores, you need to publish them using Ingram spark. is that true?

    Hired a professional to format for e-book and print book for KDP. Was a bit surprised they gave them back to me in MS Word. Although MS Word and KDP's size selections are the same, I've been chasing issues for days. The good new is after looking at the files several dozen more times I corrected some of the "pros" formatting to make it more visually appealing. Found your channel today and have been enjoying the content. I don't mind paying Kotobee. However, after already spending money for something that didn't work I just want to be sure it will solve the problem. I'm working 60 hour weeks so anything with a long learning curve isn't an option. In KDP the biggest issue is the text on some pages starting one line down instead of the top. I remove that space and of course it changes the text in the rest of the document. It then creates "widows" and more pages one line down from the top of the page.

    Thank you for the Content A+ explanation. Finally did it for my debut novel and submitted it! I love your videos. I've been following for two years. I'm going to work on my next book, which is part of a series, while I still can, as I'm 5 months pregnant, and you know how it is to write while pregnant.

    I have written a book, and did it all in MS Word. Now, I'm looking to have it published but I realize that I probably should not have written in using a 8.5 x 11 size. When I try to change it, giving all the footnotes, and several photos (in which I used tables and text wrapping, etc.), everything shifts around so much that it is extending my time on it way beyond anything I had imagined. Is there a software that will easily import from MS Word into the software, without it all getting so jumbled up? It comes out to 150 pages, double sided, single spaced. I do use Adobe Indesign, but I have been using CS2 version since the year it came out. I do a weekly newsletter with it, but have never tried anything massive. I cannot afford anything newer (as I'm retired, and money does not go very far right now). Thanks for the video and I will look at your older video on MS Word. However, any further input would be deeply appreciated.

    Great video! Ten years and three books in and I still learn stuff, mostly off great videos from giving folks like Mandi! In the beginning you learn real quick that writing the books is the easy part. New authors don’t feel overwhelmed! It’s overwhelming, just try not to feel it! Haha

    I'm so divided, as an indie author with a very limited budget, I like the idea of having inexpensive options. But as an artist, I also don't like the idea of taking work or opportunities from other artists. 😵‍💫

    Mandi, I'm looking for a cover design as well as someone who can help teach me Amazon ads, SEO and getting sales (of course). My books are simple (lower and mid content books), but cover design and ads are difficult. What might it cost to receive your help for a children's activity book?
