Epic fails happen in trad publishing, too. After pushing my second book hard, my publisher decided, unbeknownst to me, not to market my third book really at all. Now, whether I'm publishing independently or traditionally, I just assume it's all going to be up to me. The best way by far to promote one's own work is promote the work of others you admire. Follow, like, comment, share! Network with other authors, artists, and podcasters who are also just starting out. Cultivate relationships and humbly ask for advance blurbs, but not before you've proven your loyalty and worth as a fan. And no matter what happens, write the next book!

Marketing is definitely something I really need to work on. I worked very hard writing, illustrating, and formatting my children's book, but my marketing was super bad. due to that, I have not made many sales. While the idea of my book is strong due to my bad marketing it didn't go well. Strong marketing is crucial and can even help a poor book idea make sales and be successful. Thank you for making this informative video :)

Hi Mandi. I watch your videos. Thank you for the very helpful information you share. I was wondering if you would make a video about tax filing....for instance..for every platform an Author's book is at..do we need to give our tax info? I thought it wasn't necessary to file unless it was a certain amount an Author earned for that tax period. I understand bank info is impotence to fill out for every platform our book is at. But for taxes....IRS....is it something we can wait to file until we reach that threshold of $ ?

Hi Mandi, I've really been enjoying your author tip videos and had a question. In this video you mentioned how it's important not to muddy your genres/categories... and I am really struggling with this due to the nature of my books. My series is a Young Adult, Dark Fantasy, Allegorical Graphic Novel Series inspired by the Fruit of the Spirit from the Bible and it's heavy on the Mystery. The categories I have it in currently are: Religion & Spirituality Graphic Novels, Children's Fantasy Comics & Graphic Novels, Teen & Young Adult Fantasy & Supernatural Mysteries & Thrillers. Do you think these are my best fit or do you have any advice?

I'm still writing my novel but what I'm struggling with is selling my episodic serials. Seems like a little different animal and I'm wondering if you have any insight on selling episodes via some type of subscription structure?

I'm working on finishing up my first book for publication. It's a fantasy romance novel and it sort of has a mystery suspense feel to it as well, would love some advice as to how to advertise the genre of it

I am about to launch my third self published book on KDP, an illustrated children's book, but I am not doing it until I have a better promotion plan in place. My others didn't sell at all, and I even paid for advertising.

I write in a genre where design and cover folk can impede distribution. I’m considering buying your courses for control. I can’t do much worse. I have zero knowledge of ID and PS. I don’t participate in social media. I am technically savvy. Will I be able to gain enough understanding to complete my goal. Without social media, is there a way to ask an occasional question?
