Yes, it's a massive risk and I'd love to see a video just about this type of advertising. I'll be completing a series in a pretty niche market so I might investigate and try to find a book box subscription that is in my niche and invest, but I would love to see if it's anywhere near worth the price.

Could you do an update at the end of July to see how your sales were impacted by that flyer? I would love to know if that kind of expense is worth it. ETA: Just watched where you said you would do a video so ignore this. Excited for this video! 😄

The copy editing is so cheap when you break it down. At $20 an hour (which is LOW for an experienced editor) that is 60 hours, which would be five pages an hour for 300 pages. Spending a focused 15-20 minutes on a page is necessary for good, detailed copy edits.

I’m currently working on a story that’s based on my favorite book series called Warriors a series about cats being in four different clans but my story’s with Foxlike humans and other magical creatures. And I have two of my coworkers helping me create a book cover and drawing the characters

I'm getting ready to binge all your self-publishing cost videos ahead of my own release. One thing I've seen authors mention a bit is book funnel but I'm not sure I understand the concept. You said you tried it once and messed up, and now it worked for you. Any chance you would do a book funnel video detailing both of your experiences. Thanks, M!

The first time I used Book Funnel I formatted my ebook wrong so it got sent to readers wrong. So it was an error on my part, not BookFunnel.

Was it enchanted ink publishing? If that is the correct one, then these are the prices: $0.015/word manuscript critique(I'm assuming it's the same as a developmental edit) $0.028/word for line editing $0.017/word for copy editing $0.014/word for proofreading Even if that isn't the one, it gives a good idea

I got Adobe Stock, and since im also using adobe audition and Indesign, so i can bundle all three for less than the individual cost. Stock is 22/mo but you get 10 photos/ videos per month.

Is there a vid on the Book Box results? Is there more about your Book Adventure Boxes and how to make them?

9:01 I’m incredibly curious as to how authors get their books into book boxes. Would you ever do a video specifically explaining the process?

I've never been able to do it myself, but you mostly just reach out to the box creators. The though part if you often have to contact really far out in advance, which is hard to do with indie authors since we tend to have much shorter timelines for publishing than traditional publishing. Usually book boxes only want to feature your book for the month the book releases, so there's a very small window of opportunity.

If by verify you mean prove your identity, not necessarily. However, verification will come into play if you expect to collect your earnings. Some form of identify verification is always involved in collecting money from sales. And I don't believe Amazon deals in paper checks anymore.

If you copyright the book yourself does that effect anything with self publishing?

No, it does not. These days, copyrighting the book through registration isn't even considered essential. However, if you need to file suit against someone who has violated your copyright, you will have to officially register the intellectual property BEFORE you can file suit. That being said, you can actually file the copyright anytime after the book has been published, and before the trial. This will not affect your rights as the judge will determine if your copyright is valid or not, versus any claims by those who committed the theft.

What is the difference between copy editing and proofreading?

Both check the manuscript for errors and possible improvements. But by analogy, if copy editors and proofreaders were house cleaners, a proofreader is just going to go through your house and wash the dishes, mop the floor, and put the kids' toys in the toy box. A copy editor is going to paint your living room, re-grout the bathroom, and get that blood stain out of your carpet. A copy editor does a deep dive into your book and comes up with significant improvements. A proofreader checks for missed grammar and spelling issues.

You right down a bunch of words. Then, a copy editor rewrites your jumble and makes you sound like an actual author.
