    Very good video ..... Answer this question for me for all the silicone lovers out there If you have a tub and it is tiled and you listen to people who use Silicone, which I do not ,silicone has no use in a shower except on a frameless door. The silicone come up of the past 10 years or so, has came on a nowhere and for only reasons that I can assume money and speed. And that's probably also why almost all grouts come rapid setting now, which is ridiculous for speed. So people can get stuff done faster and make more money. But the problem is they're not tiling correctly 90% of the time. How do you suppose if you silicone, where the tub meets the first row of tile? How do you suppose the water's gonna get out of there?............ It's also when you're talking about fluorescents in a shower bed. 90% of the time, it's because it's not waterproof properly and is holding water. The whole shower was most likely built wrong.

    Question for the nice guy doing this video. I am adding thin brick to a wall in my living room. I want to use lightweight grout to keep the weight load to a minimum. Is there a lightweight grout I can use? Or can I use caulking which is maybe lighter in weight and then put grout over the caulking? I am looking at ways to reduce the weight! That is the goal. THank you!

    That was great until you got to the soap part. You’re gonna interfere with the bonded edges of the sealant as you smooth it out.

    If the drain can be centered then that's great but there are times when they can't be. This demonstration is designed to reflect real-world circumstances. Excellent demonstration and well explained.

  • @BonBon770

    If the drain is not centered, the perimeter still has the state level, which means the angle of the drain to the perimeter will change as the drain gets closer to the perimeter. That's how that works. And yes, it should be level all the way around the perimeter. You should be able to mud a PAN no matter where the drain is level around the perimeter.

    Great video and agree, but the problem and lies when there is a construction code that is incorrect for showers. So if people blindly, follow an incorrect code. Or construction law, what do you do?

  • @ShowerRepair

    Which code? What methods and what municipalities?

  • @BonBon770

    A pre slope is not required but recommended in Florida on the second story, third story. Or the first story, the worst part is that most Florida houses are concrete slab one floor and there is usually 1 concrete recess shower. Usually the master. If it's a 4 bedroom house, there might be 2 recessed showers and then a tub. For the third bathroom, but code does not require any type of slope, so the first shower that is taken, it is holding water and the water never gets out of the house. there is no pre slope or liner! All there is, iS mortar, thinset, and tile and a one piece pop on drain..And this is why a lot of the cookie cutter type housing in Florida, I believe have changed to the one piece. Plastic pans for the PAN and they tile all the walls which is cheesy as hell. Regardless the code needs to change , there must be some sort of slope , whether it's a traditional system with a liner and a pre slope and a post slope or a newer sealed system with a bonding flange and a membrane either would be Better than what they're doing now.@ShowerRepair

    The drain should be centered first off., I can't believe this is like a real tile channel. And you're saying to not keep the perimeter level because the drain is not in the center. Well, that's kind of wrong, the perimeter. No matter where the drain is should be level, your pitch is going to change dramatically, like in this video, if the drain is not centered so the drain has to be centered and then. Level all the way around the perimeter. If the drain is close to the wall, then there's going to be more of a pitch. The perimeter has to stay level.... A perfect way to get your quarter inch or half inch per foot. I like to stay right around a quarter. Inch , because a shower floor should be the least pitch possible , but within the quarter inch standard...... Is also 1/4 inch per foot. An easier way to explain it for the pitch is. When you're looking at your level, it's 1/3 of the bubble past. Either end of the line would be a quarter inch per foot. Now you could bump that bubble up to almost half. If you wanted to and that would be closer to your half inch per foot.

    In my research everything I’m seeing talks about determining whether or not you need a pre-treatment grout release prior to grouting. My question is can you just go ahead and do it as an insurance policy? Is there any kind of tile that it won’t work with or it would be detrimental to the process to go ahead and apply it “just in case?”

  • @nonamuss9991
    @nonamuss99914 ай бұрын

    Will pretreatment with grout release help prevent smooth polished porcelain or ceramic tile from scratching during grouting? If no, what would you recommend as a solution?

    Absolutely correct good video, but here in Florida code doesn't require a presslope if the shower is recessed, which is incorrect and wrong so every new shower built-in Florida for the past 40 years that's recessed is leaking from the 1st day or holding water..... Anybody out there care?

    Everything makes sense except for the potable comment. “Potable” implies that the water is drinkable and most tap water is not. We shouldn’t need to filter water before adding it to materials - just state normal tap/city/well water.
