Two Traveling Kings

Two Traveling Kings

We’re Jenny and Logan, American Millennials with a passion for traveling and eating delicious food from all around the world. Our love for travel started in the UK where we lived and worked for a while, traveling to different European cities almost every weekend. So when we went back to our “normal” lives in the US, we knew we weren’t ready to settle down. This motivated us to plan a trip around the world and then a year in Australia. We decided to give this vlogging thing a shot and have really enjoyed sharing our travel journey. Who knows where we’ll end up next, so be sure to follow along to find out! :)

Australian accent used to be more nasal as well, especially in the southern states, but it’s toned down in the last 30 years as television has become more nationalised instead of state centric, so the pronounced eastern Sydney and lower toned slower Brisbane accents have filtered out the nasal sounds, though you’ll still find them in the inland regional areas

The Pavlova is an Australian classic, despite what the New Zealanders claim. They stole the Chinese Gooseberry and tell everyone it's "kiwi". They claim they invented the beef Wellington and invented meat pies. They even recently tried to steal the other Australian classic the Lamington. What the New Zealanders call the "first Pavlova" was actually just an all layered jelly desert ( note - multiple dishes were named after Anna Pavlova as she toured ) , this here is the Australian Pavlova, invented in The Esplanade Hotel in Perth and this is the classic Pavlova standard known around the world.

My hubby is over retirement age at a private company where he has been working for almost 18 years. At present he doesn't want to completely give up his job. He was working a fulltime nine day fortnight with every alternative Monday as a day off. However, he has just commenced a four-day week by taking every alternate Friday off as one day annual leave. He has got about 16 weeks annual leave owing so his bosses are anxious for him to take leave to avoid increasing his retirement pay out. His new roster means he gets 2 X 4-day weekends and 1 X 2-day weekends in a 30-day cycle, which equals 18 days work with 12 days off! I have surgery scheduled next month so he will take 20 days paid carer's leave (He has rarely used any of his sick leave over the years, so has about 150-160 days owing). Then he plans to take his long service leave for 7, 10, and 15 years' service before he retires completely in a few years' time. The huge positive is that he will still be earning towards his superannuation fund, and he will still be accruing long service leave and annual leave as a fulltime employee. We can start our retirement part time and be able to tap into his super fund as self-funded retirees! (I retired at 57 due to ill health and have been since "fed" by my super fund.) Gotta love having a Work/Life Balance!

You go to the bakery for a lamington not a supermarket. What you ate was created in a laboratory with zero ingredients and nutrition. Every local bakery makes a lamington 10 times a good as that.

Thank goodness Aus doesn’t have Starbucks. It is just dishwater. Unfortunately I gotta say it. For Starbucks to be so popular in USA it is a sad indictment on the culture.

In Aus you would not get coffee at Maccas when you could get it at almost any cafe but in USA you would get coffee anywhere but Starbucks so Maccas would fit. I’ve travelled the world drinking coffee and Melbourne is the standout. Either an espresso or a skinny flat white if you prefer yours with milk.

There is just no comparison between Cadbury and Hershey. Hands down Cadbury. Same as coffee. Almost any Aus cafe coffee far superior than that awful Starbucks dishwater.

Not done at Bunnings, but to properly caramelise onions, in the last minute add half a heaped teaspoon of brown sugar and dash of Balsamic vinegar to dissolve. Just make’s the greatest fried onions you ever tasted on a sausage in white bread.

At 5:04. We never had a war of Independance from the UK. We just beat them nearly all the time at Cricket - their national sport. Some years ago, the POMS (English beat us at The Ashes series in Cricket (I think it was 3-2 matches) so when the English returned home they got a tickertape street parade in Manchester, and the Captain of their Cricket team, Ian Botham, got knighted by the Queen. I told my American and English friends -'Anyone would think they won the American War of Independance!'.🤣😱😀 About food here. Two American friends visited me and as we were driving, I told them that Henny Penny has female 'chooks' and Red Rooster has male 'chooks'. -They believed me! And when I told them I was joking, -they didn't believe the correction. They said they were warned about the Aussies telling people about Koalas on Sydney Harbour Bridge, to which I replied... ' Of course there aint any, not since they cut down the gum trees!' ---And they believed me!.. But I did educate them to eat Beetroot on their hamburgers. It was so successful they couldn't stand Hamburgers without Beet' 😆when they returned to CA.

I was one of the 88 original team members of the first ever Bunnings warehouse in Sunshine, Victoria in 1994. I was the one who suggested that the aroma of a freshly cooked Aussie snag on entry would be a great idea for our customers to have added value to their shopping experience. At that time it was for our own social club, but soon enough it became a way of involving local community groups, which was a stroke of genius.
