An other lovely peek into your life with Woody chewy and Willow. So here follows a little bit from me of many years ago. I acquired a red setter he was nearly 2 when I had him and 12 years when we parted company. My first dog ever. My ever companion. Wherever I took a job he came too. One of our first jobs was in a stable yard in Wiltshire. I was so lucky to find a dog club and the trainer was a gundog man. I guess he and his dogs worked as a gamekeeper. But the one valuable lesson he taught me was the way to use the words Wait and Stay. Wait was to wait for the next command and Stay was to Stay until 'I' return. With practice on both our parts I could command sit, down, or stand followed by Stay and Pepper would do exactly that until I returned. How ever long I left him or where ever I left him he was still there when I got back. Fantastic dog. In our 10 years together he learnt over 100 words and phrases.

Lovely story of you and a lovely dog I do enjoy reading about these things. Sounds like you had a special dog there and meeting someone who gave some sound advice was good too. We certainly miss our old friends iv had a few since childhood, all very special. Thank you for you comments, always good to here about these things.

Hi i love your videos and i love your hawk and dogs i think that hawks are magnificent birds and we have Paris the Harris and are getting Goose the goshawk chick soon i think that animals need to be animals and hawks hawks and you have got the right balance I watch you and Dave Sharpe and Ben woodruff and have learnt so much So thank you oh i’m a vegan lol

Hi , so pleased you like our videos . Paris the Harris, love that name, Goose will be a lovely hawk I'm sure. Actually when I mentioned vegan I did think I didn't really mean Vegan but the activists lol I'm now questioning my thoughts of even mentioning it 😅. I have family who are vegan, I do believe they have better morals then me, but again we are all different and on our little journey through life. Another fantastic video Pete and very challenging - just do what you feel is right and enjoy what you are doing and we will all learn from how you do things. If you wanted to be more efficient you could replace Woody and Willow with a machine gun - but how boring your videos would be.

There are some hard and fast rules in Falconry but in general I think we all adopt a system that best suits us and our Bird. I know my way of doing Falconry is constantly being tweeked to suit my Bird and I. I think we should all listen to other Falconer and pick their brains for stuff that might work for us as well. It is important to listen. I have picked up a fair few tricks from you which I am very thankful for.

As we Move into 2025 social media and modern equipment, what’s your thoughts on Thermal imaging to help in field sport, can we use them in a way that enhances our falconry or should we use other field skills. All opinions would be good to read.

I use a thermal, only at night flying on the lamp, purely so I don’t ruin the whole field, the rabbits got the upper hand at night regardless

I'm an aspiring apprentice, no sponsor, apologies for the ignorance. But, I don't understand the molt in terms of what the bird wants to do, how much to interact with them, etc. I guess my question is, how do my duties as a falconer change during the molt? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

During the moult you only need to feed them, don't need to interact. Make sure you have proper mews good light ,proper astro turf . After the moult you can retrain the hawk no problem. Good question always willing to help .
