I have an ethos when it comes to cars -- you either own one car that can do everything, or you own one car for each requisite. I must live in the latter, because I'm an extremist and I find myself solely with four very versatile vehicles.
And I have the wherewithal to fix my mistakes. That allows me the luxury to make some pretty stupid mistakes. But I’m a do-it-yourself-er with moot mechanical abilities that just may be enough just to get the project done.

Glad the damage is only cosmetic. Between this and the fox body it could be Artwerks body shop now.
Hilarious! You're right, Jeff!
It was fun till it wasn't! Sorry brother!
You have to pay a price to play. I'm comfortable with that. :)
💔💔💔
Bozo! I'm glad there's no serious damage.
Too much fluff. Many omitted steps. Definitely for entertainment purposes not instructional.
What steps were omitted? I have a fully functioning, new looking dash. It works good as new.
Nice work here Art!!! Glad you pulled the pan to do this, that is def the RIGHT WAY TO GO here!
Thanks! I think so too!
Red ftw. My red sock collection likes this.
That's hilarious! Thank you.
How to get a hold of you over phone. Don't worry not asking you to sell LC infact i got one too and have questions
Contact me on IG where we can DM. Artwerks_Garage on IG.
Love the kids bikes you gotta work around. Been there!
😮💨😮💨😮💨
Sorry, but I think that went right over my head.
@@artwerksgarage beautiful car, took my breath away.
Great looking car, a true classic. Thanks, Art.
Hello, my transmission is a factory 6-speed manual (getrag 420g), but I have a problem with the bell housing bearings. Do you have a bearing kit that you can sell me for the bell?
Sorry, I do not. Your best bet would be to go through Diffsonline.com.
Nice job mister
Hi I am from Denver as well and got same LC as yours I have few questions how to contact you? Here is my email if you could send me your phone number I will call you. Greatly appreciate
Excellent work go you
Those seals are made to "reshape". I had to make a tool to get mine to compress back down. They are just like sealing rings in a transmission - you stretch them to get them on, then compress them again when they are in place. I have tools for 4L60's, 4R70W's, etc. But I did not have one for my Fox rack, so I made it from some PVC pipe. Unfortunately, I lost an hour of footage when I rebuilt mine because the camera went into heat protection. BUT, I may have some pics, or may even have the tool kicking around if you need pics.
That's interesting. I've never heard of that before. Thanks for the tip!
yep these are teflon seals, same thing with direct injection seals, you need to re-compress the seals with a tool (anything with a gentle radius or chamfer will do and some lube).
That’s very helpful. Didn’t know that. Good knowledge.
Trying to copy me 😂
thanks for sharing, seems straight forward!
Looks like the issue I just had happen. The cover plate to cylinder head that holds coolant, as well as the metal bracket that holds wire harness @ cam sensor. The torque spec has got to be very low because it took hardly any force at all to crack plate.
I see now in replies it has been mentioned. Please excuse. Well, at least it will show in comments first glance ;)
This transmission was also fitted to E39 540i, am i correct? Could you provide me with BMW OE number for this exact transmission?
Yes it was also used in the 540. Part No.: 23007501757
What is that yellow cable connected on the + pole on the battery?
I don't know for certain, but experience tells me that this yellow connector is the battery disconnect that occurs when you are in an accident and the airbags go off. If that happens the car will not run and, unfortunately, you would have to replace this entire cable.
Same exact thing just happened to me. Best part tho...the old o rings i took off went back to the same size as the new ones are, but the new ones once stretched don't go back at all. I guess add it to the rest of the trash being made today on chinaland...new rack it is
Do one of the drive line greasing
I'm not sure a video is necessary. There's just a couple of zerk fittings on the front and back of the driveshaft. It's pretty self explanatory. But if you'd like a video I'd be happy to make a quick one....?
Thank you for sharing!
Hi @artwerksgarage, I just purchased my firts LC, I am very excited to start my build, its a 2016 but with just 30k miles on it ( a rare find). Unfortunately its black which I dont like, I really want to put those trd bronze wheels on it but they are hard to find and expensive, are those the HE ones? 17 or 18 inch? Or are yours the ones used in 4runners and sequoias? Im new on the Toyota world, thank you! Really like your video
Yes, my wheels are the bronze, 18", BBS, TRD wheels that come on the HE. I bought them from a shop that built a HE rig for a guy that wanted different, aftermarket wheels. I paid only $1,600 for the set! I know, I practically stole the wheels at that price. It's ridiculous how much they are going for these days.
How much do Jedder headers usually run
About $5k!
@@artwerksgarage not surprised jed does some crazy work, wonder if the performance gains are worth over like evolve or supersprints
@@WBSAddictionsI think the benefit of Jed's headers over the others isn't performance, but rather, quality.
@@artwerksgarage that I one million percent can see they’re pieces of art
For future reference when you do the diffs and transfer case buy the harbor freight multi use transfer pump. It will pump a quart of diff oil like that in like 6 pumps.
You are a brave man, a long time ago we used to convert these transmissions to dog boxes, we had a whole wall full of special tools. Foreman all ways came by and wondered why it took so long 😂
@claessjostrom565 Do you know where to buy syncros to it??
@@nicolaimrkbrejnbjerg611 No I’m sorry I haven’t worked on these gearboxes for over twenty years.
That's a lot of work, Art, but it's starting to look like a car. I can't believe how big the kids are!
Looking good boys!!!
Wiring is cake ...
Hey I told you that in confidence. You're not supposed to tell the whole internet. 😂
🤣❤️
It's not the wiring it's the hoping the plastic doesn't break into pieces when taking it apart
Get you some fine Emery cloth like 2000 grit unplug all those plugs and clean the spades and their terminals do the same with all the fuses in the fuse panel, the same goes for the brain terminals and other places, since you have it apart take an air hose and blow all the dust you can out of there you will have a much better running truck
Thought it was a mustang
Hey Art, what tires did you put on those wheels?
I'm really excited about these tires. They look really aggressive. They are Yokohama Advan Apex V601 XL. I'm running a square setup in the size 255/35 18.
Glad to hear you rocking Com Truise!
Glad you noticed.
Lets do my 68 GTO next 🤔
I'm down. I like that idea.
The bad news is, there's a lot of bondo and holes. The good news is, you'll no longer be a novice welder when you're done!😉
True. I've gotten much, much better at welding during this project.
Joe is such a great friend ❤ that guy!
Wow, could really do without the tasteless music at the beginning!
That's the Beastie Boys! Apparently you need some culturing.
Those are some expensive wheels to put on a base LC. Why didn't you go beadlock in the same color?
Expensive wheels? I only paid $1,600 for this good, used set. That's a steal! And brand new these wheels aren't much more. That's about as cheap as wheels get these days. And I'm infatuated with these wheels -- there is no other wheel I would otherwise even consider.
@@artwerksgarage nice! That's a good price for the set. I was looking at them to put one in my spare. Brand new the cheapest I found was $550 each. I saw some going for $1k each. I agree though, they are beautiful and I wouldn't change mine out for anything
Wow! That blows my mind. Just last summer I was looking at them from Toyota and I thought they were only $300ea. Sorry to hear that.
@@artwerksgarage it's just one of those things where they're becoming less available
Sounding great!
Nice looking truck, Art.
All grey with black rims would look awesome. So many shades, but the Audi grey, machine grey or even flat grey makes anything look industrial and tough especially with the black rims. Your jalopy project will turn out great. Looking forward to seeing it come to life.
Noted. And I agree. Grey, or multiple greys, just may be the winner.
It's fun watching you ponder the colors. If you go with the blue, I think a darker blue would be better with gold wheels. I also think the two-tone gray looks good but wouldn't match with gold wheels at all. Just my 2 cents worth, Art! I can't wait to see the end product with this build.
That's funny you say darker blue, because I'm trying to avoid a darker blue. But I agree that a darker blue would look better with gold wheels. Conundrum.
That's a lot of werk, Art! 😉Seems a lot different than working on a Bimmer but you're doing a great job, as usual.
This is the biggest restoration project I've ever undertaken. It's going to take me a while...
Curious why you took the O2 sensors off while exhaust sytem was still bolted on rather than just removing them once the exhaust was off the car.
Hindsight is 20/20. Where were you before I did this?! ;D
Nice rig. I own a 2018 myself. Love those wheels, might have to find some.finally. You oot the right recovery gear as well. My dog acts much like your- haha.
Thanks 👍 The wheels actually aren't all that expensive considering.
Those sunglasses are YOU, Art, perfect for your personality! 😜 It sounds like you've taken a big job on, but you have the right attitude. Of course, you can't let Joe pay, he's already doing so much for you, Friends like that are rare. Good luck with your Mustang, I hope you've found all the problems and there are no other surprises. It looks like you two are having a good time and that's what really matters.
That's not good. You just had a major rebuild less that a year ago. Did Partee make a mistake?
No, I don't think so. But I'm not certain how this happened. Either way, Partee Racing sent me a new coolant blockoff plate for free and properly installing it resolved my issue.
