Battery Cable Replacement in my BMW e39 M5

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After a terrifying discovery in the last episode, where I prevented a colossal fire, I purchased a used, good battery cable harness to replaced the one that is destroyed in my car -- specifically, my BMW e39 M5. In this episode I clean up the used, good battery cable harness, clean the car's interior and put it all back together.

Definitely a pain in the butt to remove all of that stuff, but the alternative would have been much worse! Glad it all worked out and you were able to repair it all!

Art, I'm glad you caught that, I'm glad you didn't burn your Bimmer up so we can still be friends. You know the only reason I've been friends with you all these years is because of your cool cars, don't you?😉

Hey there I recently had my car fully detailed in July 2023 and since then had a battery drainage. Even boosting the car with a booster would not work. It would start 1-2/10 times. After almost two months of having this issue a friend and I noticed by playing around with the positive wire in the trunk just where the wire bends over the chassis it would arch. Pulling the wire away from the chassis and putting booster pack the car would start right up. (Battery drained completely) Without touching the positive wire and had the booster on the front mounts in the engine bay, every time I would try to start the car it would just “click click”. The positive was arching on the chassis. Looking at the wire with out removing the black netting around, it appears to be fine and the red jacket of the wire does not look damaged. Giving this info on your video incase someone has also experienced this with their car. I am going to try to solidify the wire by putting another jacket over it and see if this resolves my issue.

That's interesting that yours is arcing yet still has the protective insulator still in tact. BMWs of this generation are know to have low quality wiring.

What is that yellow cable connected on the + pole on the battery?

I don't know for certain, but experience tells me that this yellow connector is the battery disconnect that occurs when you are in an accident and the airbags go off. If that happens the car will not run and, unfortunately, you would have to replace this entire cable.

Oh man all that work for such a simple mistake. I hate it when stuff like that happens.
