  • @TheFifthPersonChannel

    Yes, the REIT will usually share this information with investors. If not, you can simply calculate this by taking the REIT's net property income and dividing it by its total property value.

    But isn't it so that even if a new sector like health care is at the top and not IT anymore, that thoose companys will also be on top of QQQ and outperform SPY?

  • @TheFifthPersonChannel
    @TheFifthPersonChannel5 күн бұрын

    The QQQ has a larger weighting of tech companies compared to the SPY. Therefore, if the tech sector underperforms, it will drag down the QQQ more compared to the SPY. Similarly, the QQQ has 6% exposure to healthcare, while the SPY has 11%. If healthcare outperforms, the SPY will benefit more. Hope this explains!

    is ETF strategy good for dividend income?

  • @TheFifthPersonChannel
    @TheFifthPersonChannel6 күн бұрын

    If you can find a low-cost ETF that suits your risk profile and yield target. However, you will need to be mindful of the ETF's domicile due to dividend withholding tax rules.

    Would you do DCA on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis assuming the total amount you invest per year regardless of frequency of injection is the same? If you opt for the less frequent method, would that subject you to risks of investing when the price is higher?

  • @TheFifthPersonChannel
    @TheFifthPersonChannel6 күн бұрын

    Dollar-cost averaging on a more frequent basis smooths out market volatility better, but you pay more in transaction costs. Quarterly contributions often provide a good balance for many people.

    Understand the rationale to choose Irish-domiciled over ETF domiciled in US. Curious though - Does the same advantage applies for ETF domiciled in other countries such as China/ Thailand?

  • @TheFifthPersonChannel
    @TheFifthPersonChannel6 күн бұрын

    It depends on the country's tax laws and its tax treaty with your resident country. For example, China has a 10% dividend withholding tax, but it could fall to 5% if your resident country has a tax treaty. taxsummaries.pwc.com/peoples-republic-of-china/corporate/withholding-taxes

    Should international investors heavily allocate their investments to USD-denominated assets and US stocks/bonds? Even Temasek avoids such concentration. For passive investors, this strategy may be overly risky, as many are too young to remember Black Monday on October 19, 1987, when global stock markets crashed and the DJIA dropped 22.6% in a day. This event was likely triggered by the US Treasury's announcement on October 14, 1987, of a record $15.8 billion trade deficit, raising concerns about the economy, inflation, and interest rates. Contributing factors included: overvaluation of stocks, rising interest rates by the Federal Reserve to combat inflation, significant trade deficits (with the US trade deficit at $773 billion in 2023), increased computer trading which exacerbated declines, global economic worries, a shift from optimistic to panic-driven market psychology, insufficient regulatory oversight, global currency fluctuations, weak economic indicators hinting at a slowdown, and the contagion effect of interconnected markets. These factors led to a recovery period of 2-5 years, during which many investors suffered significant losses: approximately 20-30% of individual investors in the US stock market at the time, with 1.4 million losing 50% or more of their portfolio value, 660,000 losing 75% or more, and 240,000 losing their entire portfolios. The total estimated paper losses in the US stock market on Black Monday ranged from $500 billion to $1 trillion (1990 USD). Consider the likely factors that cumulated in the perfect storm for Black Monday: 1. Overvaluation: Stock prices had risen significantly in the preceding years, leading to concerns about overvaluation. (AI tech Boom) 2. Interest rate rise: The Federal Reserve had raised interest rates in the summer of 1987 to combat inflation, making borrowing more expensive and reducing demand for stocks. (Higher - longer ... still wait for the Fed to fully commit to cuts) 3. Trade deficits: The US trade deficit had grown significantly, leading to concerns about the country's economic competitiveness. (gotten a lot worst since then...as of 2023, the United States had a trade deficit of about USD773 billion.) 4. Computer trading: The increasing use of computer trading programs, which automatically sold stocks when certain conditions were met, exacerbated the decline. (HFT if anything is even more prevalent today) 5. Global economic concerns: Economic worries in other countries, such as the UK and Australia, added to the global uncertainty. (China, Japan, EU ...) 6. Market psychology: Investor sentiment shifted from optimism to panic, leading to a wave of selling. 7. Lack of regulatory oversight: Insufficient regulatory oversight and inadequate risk management practices contributed to the crisis. (MAGA is likely coming back to office ... the Dem are not much better) 8. Global currency fluctuations: Volatility in currency markets, particularly the decline of the US dollar, added to the uncertainty. (Dedollarisation and, is another Asian currency crisis brewing JPY, Won, Peso...) 9. Economic indicators: Weak economic indicators, such as a decline in industrial production, hinted at a slowdown in economic growth. (??? Is the American economy really doing well outside the AI Tech boom?) 10. Contagion effect: The crisis spread rapidly across global markets, fueled by the increased interconnectedness of the world economy. (We are even more interconnected that 1987) How many did we check off today?

    I've just started investing this year on march. Was originally going to do voo and qqqm only. but i got greedy and got some stocks too🥲. Stocks wise i only get the bigger companies like nvidia, meta and tesla (back when it fell back to 140+ usd). Recently got a bit of palantir too cuz i fomo their potential (yeah i know its a bad habit). Even though as of now im up 6.5%I think i should stick back to getting more voo and qqqm🥴 but when the market turns red, it's very tempting to get more stocks too like today😂

    I think they were in tandem when interest could not go down much lower (& they had to resort to quantitative easing). Now that interest is back up, they can do interest reduction when stocks crash and then you will see the balancing between the long bond increase in price (when Feds cut interest to boost economy) vs the share price coming down

    Buying into US ETFs does not track the US economy (whether the equity market actually tracks the economy is another matter). The US ETFs have the biggest global companies. And the US exchanges are the go to exchanges to list for innovative companies no matter where they come from. So, buying into a US market fund is to an extent buying into global innovation and the global economy. You are buying into the future. This is very different from buying into an exchange tracking fund with mature companies where there is a strong focus on dividends e.g. SGX ETF.

  • @TheFifthPersonChannel
    @TheFifthPersonChannel10 күн бұрын

    Is there some tips for us in defining the crisis, as in now we are definitely in a boom market, waiting for a good opportunity to deploy our capital, but how do you actually decide when is the time to enter the market with a “good price”? Like drop 5%, 10%, 20% from the highest price?

  • @TheFifthPersonChannel
    @TheFifthPersonChannel11 күн бұрын

    You can usually tell when the entire market is in a crisis; COVID-19 was one example. More typically, you will wait for a stock to be undervalued based on valuation metrics, not just its price.
