G'day to you! Noticed the Oxford Die Cast here, so stopped for a look see, I have been using Oxford Die Casts on my Lay Out for more years than I can remember, Long story Short I had a stroke awhile ago,so sold off my Lay Out, which I started in 1998, but I can not bring myself to sell my Vehicles, some of them quite Old, so between my Daughter and Son in Law, they have made a Unit for them all, glad I have Found you, very Interesting Finds in the boxes, cheers! Perth West Aust.
Hi, thanks for finding the channel and for watching, I am amazed how far away some of my videos are watched! Sorry to hear about your stroke, but sounds like you daughter and son in law have looked after you and while sad the layout has gone, the car collection keeps going! Anyway lovely to have you along and thank you again for watching.
Great video 😊 and amazing value 👌 very nice models as well 👍 oxford make lovely models 😀
Thanks for you kind words. I was rather pleased.
You could use the 'n' scale wagon for false prospective, behind your layout..
That's a grate idea! Thanks you for sharing.
Didn’t know Oxford did these boxes! They look like great value, I think I’ll be ordering one! Love the videos, keep em coming!
Thanks for your kind words, I am pleased to get the word out, Just keep in mind they are a lottery and there is no returns on the box. Anyway, thanks for watching and again for taking the time to message.
Not a bad haul👍👍.
I was rather pleased.
@@dustyshelfcollectables 😎😎
I always throw away the plastic boxes and the cardboard wrapping anyway, and I usually repaint the models.
I think I have a box of empty boxes somewhere. Sounds like this box could be ideal for you! Anyway thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Great value box pity the zephyr isnt available as would get one as my late dad had one lol
Thanks Caroline, what a shame, maybe they will do a new run of the Zephyr in the future. I do the same thing collecting the cars either I or my parents had. Again Many thanks Matt
Great value Matt. Some excellent items to go on your layout. 👍 Happy modelling
I was really pleased. there is a few there for the layout which is always good. Thanks Mon
What a great deal that found you this time. Great video, Jersey Bill
I was rather pleased!
Now all they've got to do is add the illuminated lamps and you've got the whole package. Waiting for either a GWR or Southern loco to get a smoke generator and I'll have one. Modeloco had the same issue and Hornby sent him info regarding CV's. Might be worth watching his video about that.
Yes the illuminated lamps would be good, and I am sure A GWR will be released sooner or later. Thanks for the tip about the CV code, I saw the advice from Modeloco last week and gave it a try it made it better but not a fix. I have posted a video of my findings if you are interested. I am still playing and in the process of pushing the cv's further. Anyway thanks for watching and the message.
Very cool Matt. The transition from sail to steam. I watched a documentary on her a year ago. Funny, I walked past her in 1990 when I was there, but never went on board, because the HMS Victory was beside her and a bigger attraction at the time. Oh well. Thanks for sharing.
Hi mon its been a while since I had been onboard, but had the excuse to visit while my son studied in Portsmouth. All the best Matt
That was very interesting to say the least. I can't believe the size of the guns and the length plus breath of the ship. The real surprise was the steam engines. I thought it was a sailing ship. Great video, Jersey Bill
Many thanks bill, I am relay glad it was of interest. There is a couple more videos on the channel looking at the Victory witch is in the same doc yard, there is one onboard and one looking at the restoration that may be of interest. Thanks again Matt
Hi Matt the 3.1/2 g loco was a beauty- they are a lot of work though.
Oh yes, but I sent many wonderful hours running it. I didn't build this one, but I have the chassis to my grandfathers 7 1/4 in the shed so maybe one day I can credit a build.
@@dustyshelfcollectables I meant a lot of work to run them. I don’t have the technical skills to build one anyway. I belong to a model steam society but rarely go for lack of time.
The model train was fast and very nice model 😎.
It was a lovely runner, however I am a really bad driver, just could not get the balance of steam, heat and water level right, back then we didn't film much so that is the only footage I have of it steaming.
Thanks Matt for the views of my Los Tanimals
Hi Bob Sorry the footage wasn't great, I will try to do better next time, but a big thanks again for the efforts you go to in exhibiting. Matt
@dustyshelfcollectables fine by me Matt! You had a lot to cover!. Cheers, Bob.
@@dustyshelfcollectables no problem Matt. You had a busy day!
Thanks for the interesting workshop scenes and the beautifully presented locos. Also the model train layouts are excellent.
My pleasure Kimball, A wonderful railway, apparently the workshops are not normally open to the public, so very lucky, some nice bits of workshop kit around.
Hornby must be celebrating what the USA calls, "Christmas in July". The Christmas in July thing has grown every year here in the States and has become a big deal. I don't get it, but it does generate sales. As for the steam generator I do wish you could have given 50 to 59 a try if that is possible just for shits and giggles. I do like the coordinated drive wheels, sound, and steam plume the loco has. Anyway, great video Jersey Bill
Christmas in July hasn't reached us yet (we usually follow the US after a couple years) But its a Hornby thing to release the Christmas waggon right in the middle of summer, maybe they are the trend setters! The Scotsman is a work off art, I tried to keep the scope of the video to the recommendation but I continue to play in the background, the one thing I will sat is the seam appears to reduce as the numbers go down so not a effective. Are you aware of Knoebels Amusement park in PA? I am (or was) their only UK member of their model train club, I am penning a video at the moment on their O gauge models they sell.
@@dustyshelfcollectables I was not aware of Knoebels Amusement park nor the model train club they have, I'll have to look into it. Thanks!
Water condensing in the chimney and blocking the steam depends on the prevailing room humidity! High humidity will cause blockage, low humidity will not. That is my theory and I am sticking with it. Nice model though and 👍 to Hornby.
Amazing model. its funny you should say humidity, I am seeing the temperature of the fill water having an influence, but early days as I continue to play.
The reason they sell them in July is because it is winter time in Australia and more like Christmas. No really it probably has something to do with summer holidays when children are more likely to get holiday treats. Hornby know their market.
Christmas in Australia of course! Id like to think Hornby know their market, but this one just feel so odd and think of the marketing in December they could do.
I think Modeloco said to try either side of 60 (ie 59 or 61) to see if that gives you more consistency.
I will have a go, I limited the scope of that video but I did feel there was less steam with the lower setting, I have some time over the weekend for another play.
Big thanks back👍 You could try dropping it a bit more and yes, following Hornby advice, to 55 but, as it does nearly look about there, maybe try 58. For me 60 was the magic number and it didn’t bridge again. There is also another CV setting to try, if this doesn’t work and again by dropping that as well and see what results you get. For me this didn’t need to be done but, did try it and filmed the results. Like you, I’m obviously seeing how it goes as for some it’s worked like it has for me but, for instance Stephen Bromley, Hi Stephen, none have, including the full reset unfortunately but, yours looks promising. 🤞
Thanks mate, I will have a look at your video regarding the other CV. Thanks for posting the tip in the first place!
Good video
Thanks Caroline
Hornby told me about CV211 but mine didn't work, so gone back to Hornby for a fix
Please let me know how you get on with a fix, very interested. I don't want to return it as love the loco but if there is a better fix I will contact Hornby. Thanks for watching.
I tried this on mine same result as you I even reloaded the profile still no joy
Did your go longer without clogging?
Yes another good video is Keep it going 😅
Will do, thanks for watching!
I wonder if with the Scotsman you have here if it’s actually to do with it being a single chimney locomotive and not to do with the CV setting, sure there is an improvement by reducing the value of the specific CV you mentioned but in the video you mentioned how the P2 doesn’t have this issue but one thing to note with that model which I have just received myself today is on that one is it’s a double chimney locomotive but when you use the steam generator you are advised to change the chimney out for one included in the accessories pack, it’s still a double chimney but it only has a singe hole for the steam to escape, you mentioned how with the Scotsman you had to unblock the chimney to get steam coming out of it. Great video overall here Dusty Shelf Collectables.
I didn't know the P2 came with an alternate chimney, that's interesting, I think its just the shape or size of the exit hole that allows a sort of bridging action or water and the steam is not powerful enough to clear it. Thanks again for watching and the points you sent.
Great Tip.. thank you
Credit to Modeloco KZread channel for the tip - I just tried it, but thanks for watching and the message.
Very good.
Many thanks for watchong.
Thanks so much for the fantastic review of Brief Encounter - much appreciated! And that's the best video of my layout I've seen from another KZreadr. Thank you!
Thanks for you kind words! Such an inspired idea for a layout & keep up the good work on You tube! All the best Matt
Great quality video and footage as always thanks for sharing
Many thanks Rob.
Just for your own personal safety lol, the station is pronounced Horstead "Kaynes" ( Canes) not Keynes as in Milton. They're very particular to how their station nane is pronounced lol.😅 Looks like you had a great day
Good shout - I struggled with it all day, didn't mater how I said it always sounded 'Canes'. MY wife kept correcting me on the day but didn't help, just my accent and mental block I guess, she said someone will notice. Any way a fantastic day and a great railway!
Unusual video featuring a layout in 1:1 scale. The live steam is an amazing feature. I don't know how Hornby do it! Good choice of camera angles and shots. Thanks for uploading.
One big layout!! New from Hornby the 1:1 collection - oh that's already a thing...Indeed nice to have the big locos around added to the atmosphere. Thanks for watching and your kind words.
Another enjoyable video as usual
Thanks Caroline, It was a good day out! Matt
Thanks for another great video. The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway used to have a Fairburn tank painted in a fictious Caledonian Railway livery which may have been the inspiration for your Wrenn model.
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for the info, I will start there when I am researching to loco.
Looks great !
It really is a game changer - thanks for watching.
Great stuff Matt. 👍
Thanks 👍
Wow Matt. What an awesome day out. Great layouts and trains. Those Teak Coaches are amazing. Excellent. Happy Modelling
Hi Mon - A lovely railway, I will head back later in the year as always many thanks - All the best Matt
I live near the railway so it’s a local exhibition but having to pay for a train journey for £32 just to see them was a bit much
There was a platform ticket at the weekend for £10, We went for that option this weekend as we were there for the Model railways and did not have enough time for the big trains , but plan to be back later in there year to ride the line. Thanks for watching, maybe next year?
@@dustyshelfcollectables that sounds better, did it cover both stations but have to make your own way between them or £10 each station
£10 Covered access to all stations, but you had to make your own way between.
@@dustyshelfcollectables Thanks, that makes it good value, they must have had a load of complaints, me included, about the price last year
A really excellent and thorough review, thank you for posting. I have been thinking of getting one of these and now will order one. Hoping the CV211 adjustment as mentioned by Andrew will fix the steam issue. Maybe you would try that and be kind enough to report back? Thanks.
Hi thanks for your kind words and I am glad my review was helpful, I will give the CV 211 a go and post back.
I tried the CV211, defiantly an improvement i think but still cut out after a while, Just posted a video with the findings.
This was the first roller coaster I ever went on
Wow, I cant remember my first go on the Klondike, but my first coaster, Space station Zero at Thorpe with OHRs !
Crumbs, for the price you're paying and that bad fit of the smoke box door, it would be going back for a replacement. It may be only small, but it should be right, IMHO.
I will have a look at the door, you do have to really look for it. I need some time to look properly as there are some really fragile parts in the area. If I cant fix it then I will give Hornby a shout. Anyway thanks for watching!
You do have some great adventures. Jersey Bill
I try!
It’s actually not a small price to pay Hornby should be doing better but ever since they are Chinese made there quality has dropped massively
I look at the complexity of the model, I try to be fair noting the bad but balancing with the overall. This one I felt was ok, others I've not been so kind. But thanks for watching and sending the message.
Hi If you have a look at modeloco review of this loco i think he has a fix for the water clogging i think you need to change cv211 from 65 to 60 which should stop the clogging if you have a look at part two of the Flying Scotsman he explains it all in the steam fix video hop this helps
I have just taken a look, I will give that ago, thanks for pointing out!
I could spend hours in that shop
easily! Thanks for watching!
Really good video, nice to see inside the shed and enjoyed seeing the double run-round at Lydney Junction, seems like you had a wonderful experience!
It was a vey special day, and I feel very lucky, The railway team were superb, so kind to show us round. The double run-around was something very special that I experienced from the foot plate - one of those moment that will always live with me, we were so close to the prairie , Anyway thanks for watching and you kind words.
@@dustyshelfcollectables experiencing the double run-round in the cab must’ve been something special, and not something many railways can offer!
I am fascinated by the motor and rear plus front drive assembly right off the bat. The obvious hours this must have taken seeing how you sped up and omitted much of the video. Great editing and finished look, Jersey Bill
Hi Bill Apologies for the delayed response, it difficult to know how much to speed up and leave out, I was playing at the bench for about 5 hours. As always Many thanks! Matt
Great video. That's a nice looking steam engine, she runs well, her sounds is great too and smokes coming out from the chimney is nice as well. Thanks for sharing. All the best Josh
Hi Josh Apologies for the delayed response, Thank you for watching and your kind words it is a great engine form Hornby.
Great video review of this stunning locomotive. When you fill up do you use tap or distilled water? I can remember the days of old car batteries of long ago, when we used distilled water and not tap to top up the individual cells.
Apologies for the delayed response, it doesn't actual specify but it a really good point and I will give distilled a go.
Great review of a really nice Flying Scotsman.Someonecsaid theres has sprung a leak where the bung goes in also i think Hornby should have supplied a couple of spare bungs in the detailing pack as i can see a few of these bungs going missing.Hirnby should also carry spares in case anyone loses theres.but great review
Apologies for the delayed response, I totally agree the bung is so small during the filming I dropped on to the track and very difficult to find. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
