Dude I don’t know what it is with this lake I am a Texas fisherman but came here for the summer I fished there multiple times and haven’t got anything maybe it’s just me but let me know how to fish this place 😂😂😂
Too bad Ohio shut down the highest protection act. I live near batelle Darby metro and the algae levels are the worst I’ve seen ever. It’s really sad.
What protection act was it?! Do you think the algae levels are bad because the extreme heat and low water levels?
I’m in the Trenton area, I kayak fish a bit, let’s make a video.
Do you have videos uploaded on your channel?!
@@thecreekcrawler no sir, but I build custom rods and have some good spots. Great content for you to make around here.
Glad I found you! I'm over in Clermont County and fish smallies in the Little Miami and its tributaries.
Heck yea!! Me and the LMR don’t get along 😂 I’ve caught a handful of smallies there but nothing quite the size range I’m getting in the GMR.
I know this was 4yrs ago. But where was this in the Scioto? Is that the 270 bridge above?
I can’t remember exactly. However, I do know that it was close to the Zoo!
Welcome to Dayton brother. Hope to see ya out somewhere
Thanks man!! If you see me out there come holler!
Great tips on lures!
Thank you!
What color is the hellgrammite?
That’s the obsidian!!
Sometimes fish will hit a bait without actually eating it. I believe they will protect their territory like any animal. Great to see that river healthy😊
I caught my PB today 27 inches 7lbs woohoo...
Holy smokes!! Congratulations!!!
Wow, I fish that Damn on the other side 👍🏾
Solid spot!!
And now whites mill and Racine are even more over fished
I never had any issues catching fish at neither spot. Sure there might be a couple folks who fish it now… so what?
❤❤❤
😎🤜🏻
Another awesome video , man those were some amazing fish !!!!
Thanks Rick!! It was an awesome float for sure!
What river are you in? Please tell me.
If you watch the whole video you may find out!
Alright man. 937 guy here. How you riggin the 4.25 inch? Ive got some just cant seem to figure it out! Good vid. As usual!
I appreciate it man!! I typically rig it on the 1/4 oz vmc rugby jighead but in this video I used the vmc rugby wobble head
Nice! I got a smallie earlier this year that was only 10" in the 6" trace. Crazy! Ever try fishing GMR around Fairfield or lower?
I haven’t spent much time down that way!! I do plan to hit some stretches down there.
Great video!! I am up in the Cleveland area. Fish mostly Lake Erie and surrounding lakes and rivers (Grand, East and West Branch) If you ever want to come up North, I would love to go fishing with you. Only started kayak fishing a couple years ago. Gave up my bass boat and got two fishing kayaks so my adult son and I could get out more often and closer to nature.
That’s awesome man!! I hope you and your son are having a good time on the kayaks! I rarely get up that way but our kayak trail goes up to the Akron area every year.
Nice video Brother! The bass hardly hitting the baits. I lost about 3lb largie right by the seat. Other KZreadrs are losing fish also but not uploading the footage. You'll have better footage in this spring on the GMR of smallies crushing the Trace.
Summer can be a grind for sure!! We had some conditions fall into place that made for a special summer float!
can you do more creek/wading, also do you mind using a dropshot too.
Absolutely!! I am much closer to my home creeks these days. The kayak has been distracting me from doing wade trips. I typically do short wades after work and hardly record them.
Now that's a GREAT day in the river!
One of those special summer days for sure!!
Just a little tip from a guy who sharpens knives that will help you lose less fish. Check out your knife section at your local sporting goods store. They usually have sharpening tools that will have a hook sharpener attached. Worksharp makes 1 and so does Spyderco. Gets those hooks super sticky and way sharper than factory.
I have a little sharpener actually and I had just switched the hooks in that lure before the float. I just think poor technique and having treble baits in a fast moving river can be tough. That first big fish literally swam straight towards me and I couldn’t keep pressure on it.
@@thecreekcrawler I always sharpen my hooks straight out of the package. Most of the hooks will slide off your fingernail when you run the tip over it. Once you get that hook razor sharp it will grab the nail, it wont slide anymore. Makes hook sets effortless.
where at did you fish the GMR
The GMR is about as much information I can give man!!
Dang you guys are good! Good luck out there
Appreciate it!! The stars aligned for an awesome summer float!
Love hearing the braid screaming through the guides!
Flourocarbon screams a bit different but it’s music to my ears!!
The deadly NeD never leave home without it
he was getting crushed on that thing!
👍😎
😎
What reel are you using brother? My First baitcaster and the one I use today is a Diawa Laguna Left Hande Retrieve.
Daiwa Elite 8.1 or Daiwa TWS 8.1s
Great job as always. You have them figured out. I met a wildlife officer yesterday that new you at Devola dam😊
Thank you!!! I know a few wildlife officers. I worked with the Division of Wildlife while going through college at OU.
Great video and some good quality fish
It cant get much better in the heat of summer..the conditions lined up for a fantastic float
i also subscribed because we fish the same waters and i met you 2 times loved the videos
appreciate the sub James!!!
Yeah, I subscribe because you’re close to my waters like all of the waters. You’re fishing are like ahop & skip away
heck yea!! thanks!
Hahaha! You musta poked that channel cat right in the face with that thing. Beautiful saugeye too. Still cant decide about that one missing your bait at the surface, I swear that was a huge smallie.
How didn’t you get tour bait caught on rocks in the river?
Gotta be careful!
Were you throwing that wacky rig weightless?
Yes sir!
I grew up in Miamisburg Ohio. I live in Dayton now.
Nice!! We have some solid fisheries around us!
@@thecreekcrawler I’m limited to the lake behind my apartment building. I only have one leg and fish from a wheelchair.
I believe it....thats why i still catch just as many on the same old baits
The shrimp is an awesome little craw profile!!
I’m at Indian lake rn and went on the boat this morning got 2 2 pounders and a few more 1pounders
Niiiiice!! I heard the fishing has been great. Especially targeting docks!
@@thecreekcrawler thanks unfortunately I have too leave today but I had so much fun and will come back next year
Technically it's Acton Lake, but most everyone calls it hueston or hueston woods because of the park's name. Im right next to West Fork of Mill Creek Lake, but unless I call it Winton Woods, nobody knows what Im talking about 😂. Its a fun kayak lake. Catch it on the right day and you will do well with some big bass. Decent catfishing too.
It seemed like it would be a nice fishery. The quantity was there for sure. I couldn’t imagine a good spring bite.
The flatheads in the Great Miami love the smallies too, not that I ever used them for bait but I have caught flatheads from the Great Miami with the tail of a smallmouth sticking out of their gullet and they their still looking for something else to eat. But I’ve caught some decent smallies at different places in the Great Miami, along with decent Saugeyes too and walleyes. There are some walleyes in the great Miami but more Saugeye. Pretty decent rockbass too. You should go down to SE Ohio and hit the Scioto river, it’s got decent fish in it too. Southern part of the Scioto.
The GMR is great! I have also been on the Scioto!! Both places have their positives!!
@@thecreekcrawler- right on buddy, absolutely
That lake always has stained to dirty water Also it is loaded with crappie so nice color choice with crank bait
They were liking the crappie crank!!!
Now your in my area The lake is technically called acton lake, which sits in the middle of Houston woods The majority of people call it Houston Woods when talking to each other.
Copy that!! I grew up calling it Hueston Woods so that’s why I was confused.
We drove past the Hueston Woods park entrance yesterday after touring Miami with the middle child. Congrats on the move & a 3rd place check!! We toured UC the day prior & stayed in Hamilton at the Courtyard overlooking THE River, GM! Got in late & left early, I regrettably had no time. 😢 Child two is feeling UC, so that is good for my frequent returns to the area!! I want a 16" small jaw toad/football! Lol. Be well!
Thank you!! I tried to pull it off. You can get yourself a 16 incher on the river for sure!!!
😎
Love Indian lake!!
Good job! You did really well out there catching them! Outstanding finish 👊👊👊🔨🔨🔨
Appreciate it David!! I had fun
Your in my neck of the woods lol 😊
Niiiice! I will have to go back sometime
I always used marshmallows to float stuff off the bottom back in the day. Floating jig heads are definitely better. 😂
I love me some floating jighead!! I’m sure the fish didn’t mind the marshmallows lol
@@thecreekcrawler the marshmallow and a live leech was a deadly combo actually. Haha
@@ColtonWilson3000 I bet man!!! I would eat it
Hey I live like 5 minutes from Acton Lake/Heuston woods… did you really move down this way?? I have some great spots and lived in SW Ohio all my life.. let’s link and rip some lips!
I moved near Dayton! I grew up around here so I am familiar with most of the rivers and creeks in the area.
@@thecreekcrawler my sons mom lives right off 35.. crazy how you’re so close now! Have you been to Rush Run? I went there the other day and caught several nice largies.. they were crushing the wacky rig.. probably one of the best days of wacky rig fishing I ever had.
@timothykane1960 I live pretty close to there My spot was sharon woods lake but they started dredging it this year because by summer it's always covered with alge But would still produced nice fish
What river?
A river in southwest Ohio!
I was born in Dayton great fishing there
Absolutely one of the best smallmouth fisheries in the state!
