Just Have a Think

Just Have a Think

This channel seeks to understand the issues that face our civilisation in the 21st Century and focusses on the potential solutions that will save as many lives as possible and hopefully bring about a greater level of equality in the world. The channel is not a debating forum about whether Human Induced Climate Change is a real phenomenon or not. If that's what you're after then I can highly recommend chat forums on Social Media, where people on both sides of the argument go round and round in circles achieving precisely nothing at all.

That is a mug's game. And it's not my game.

Anyway, outside of those caveats, I do try to keep it light and humorous wherever possible, so I hope you enjoy the content.

Oh..and me... Dave Borlace. Born 1969. BSc in Technology from the Open University in the UK. After a 30 year career in People and Project Management, I now work full time on the channel thanks to the amazing folks who support me on Patreon www.patreon.com/justhaveathink

Theres a tipping point that haunts my thoughts, that is the time when our fate is obvious not just to us the 1% but to all. When the mainstream media admits the irreversible horror to come. When is That time?1year?10years?When none bother to work and the machine stops. How long?

If the USA doesn't help Latinoamérica is going to be a new province of China. Here in Argentina we are desperate for alignment with the west and they keep ignoring our calls. Maybe China is the only option.

This topic is incredibly interesting. However, I've read research that raises concerns about the longevity of solid-state batteries. I would love it if you could make a video about this issue and progress related to it.

America is panicking printing money like its the end of the world. China has taken the glove's off learned the lessons of the West and has rewriting the play book on economics. Its the greatest battle between two super powers which has never been seen in the history of the planet! America is fighting for its first place position economically. Comparing between military industrial complex America is number one on bringing the fight any where in the world to you. China is right behind. Between Russia and China the world lines are divided and the population are front row to the center stage the great fight between two super powers. Who's gonna win....

Though China's capital productivity is commendable they are a communist, political society so there is instant resistance (governmentally and domestically) to all things China.. except of course their cheap products. For example Tesla / SpaceX have had great success partly from producing as many products internally and keeping supply chains shorter. Multiple companies taking a cut of the final product = higher price in the end. By having more integration you'll have less companies yes but still the same amount of workers, minus CEO's and executives (the root). North America and Europe need to supplant multiple times the cash to achieve even partial levels of growth in comparison. Totally agree with the opinion Industrial policies need to be changed, if companies can't compete, manipulation using tariffs, taxes, and political pressure shouldn't be an option, though I can't imagine how it could be fixed... more companies like Tesla, integrate, integrate.. make industry cities.

Great episode! It will definitely keep getting more difficult for the rest of the world to compete with Chinese industry, as long as China keep to their long term strategies that are mostly very well thought through, and we continue to "fight" each other, on multiple levels and changing governments every few years, depending on the general public's feelings at election day. We shouldn't forget joining or leaving unions based on general public's feelings at the time of voting. Feelings mostly based on public "debate", which usually is mostly highly polarized statements without much context with varying levels of truth and relevance. I'm not defending everything the Chinese government does, but we're on a path toward a situation resembling the situation in the movie idiocrazy, but much more dystopian.

As to the "democratic freedom" of which you speak, considering the state of that freedom, not least on this very platform I just don't know if that's something we should attempt to export. I'm at this point thinking frantically as to how I might approach the topic while using vague and nondescript language and still get the point across without having my comment being treated as a foul expression of wrongthink. I'm petty sure that's not what democracy is supposed to be about.

Thanks for the interesting video? When I built my house in 1987, I installed 320 sqft. Of thermal hydronic at a 70 degree angle to optimize for winter . The steep angle also has the added benefit of not overheating the 800 gallon ss. tank in the basement in the summer here in VT, USA. Thermal integration sounds like a great idea, but I don’t like moving heat with air, it is so inefficient compared to liquid though as mentioned has its own drawbacks. Cheers

Well done for acknowledging USA trade war with China, there is no stopping Brics and it may even be better for consumers. China isnt subsidising electric vehicles, just no taxes to consumers the Govt was just funding them but USA has 27.5% tariff tax on Chinese EVs to protect Tesla. Good luck with that. NATIONAL SECURITY BEATS EFFICIENCY: Russia invaded Ukraine. The EU suddenly realised they were addicted to Russian gas, especially Germany. Energy is the lifeblood of the modern world and economy. Energy security IS national security - without it - civilisation collapses. Relying on a geopolitical competitor for energy is like relying on them for your very food. If a super-power like the USA cannot build their own wind and solar and computer chips and EV's - are they really a super-power? If China suddenly invades Taiwan - where does that leave the USA? No new power - no new computer chips! I’m Australian. Our previous Prime Minister was Scott Morrison aka “ScoMo”. He’s the clown who brought a piece of coal into parliament and said “Don’t be afraid of it!” Then as PM he asked the World Health Organisation to investigate whether Covid escaped a Chinese research lab. China immediately retaliated by dropping $20 BILLION in trade with us! Their actions around human rights and Taiwan and spanking Australia with a $20 billion trade cut over one request have shown them to be unreliable. Energy security is national security. Now that IRA has passed in America and they’re ‘friend-shoring’ supply lines for their OWN wind and solar and micro-chips, China’s crying foul. “No fair!” But seriously - what did they expect? We have seen Germany on their knees before Putin. Do we really want to be dependent on another dictator for our energy and tech? It will cost the west. But the west is already developed. Trump was elected with promises to bring working class jobs home to America. The irony is it’s Biden who has fulfilled that promise - and is increasingly weaning America off dependence on China.

When the history books are written, I think China will be seen to have been one of the good guys. They will have taken millions of their people out of poverty, provided goods for the West, and been a leader the the green transition. That's not to say that their human rights records could have been better, but, along with Australia, they are implementing technology systems fit for the future of mankind on this planet.

Exactly! Where the west thinks they're clever because Henry Ford invented the production line, China's just quietly getting on with building production-line-cities! That is whole cities are a 'cog' in one part of a province-wide production line of EV's and wind turbines etc, or whatever that province specialises in. So imagine you're at a certain station on a production line - but instead of teams of staff doing shift work around you - you have a whole city of 2.3 or 3 million people. That's the sort of scale we're talking about!

No they don't, they are only adding 40GW of new coal power this year vs 170GW Solar PV & 90GW Wind. Also refer back to 9:40 where he says they cancelled 775G W of coal. Overall emissions are higher than anywhere else, but they are getting "greener". Bit like a Lambo emitting 5x that of a Prius, but being driven 1/10th of the distance. The Prius will pollute more overall as it's being used more even though it's a cleaner car.

Whether this is “Chinese propaganda” or not the control of their economy and people that the Chinese have is driving change at an amazing pace. I am in no way an advocate of their politics but the west’s “guidelines” and “goals” for reducing climate gases doesn’t seem to be working fast enough to prevent the inevitable climate catastrophe. Maybe we need to learn from those direct action. If the west could get over the “made in China we won’t touch it” mindset then we can all save the world
