I love your yoga approach to Y. I would extend my emphasis on that muscle that’s between your lower thighs and hamstrings. Like stand next to a table or a counter or even a bar or something and do first position leg extensions and second position leg extension pulling your upper body down to your front leg. Hold until completely down comfortably. Then do Y next to a chair.

Most people don’t get it completely straight, if you use your hip as momentum to spin faster instead of your upper body and leg pulling into your I position, you’ll be traveling because you’re not straight enough. When doing your horizontal I, make sure to pull your leg with your opposite arm, that way it enforces your leg to be straight up and your hips squared. But to be completely squared comfortably and pulling your leg to your face, have a squared split. Instead of twisting your back to keep your hips checked, try bending your back leg while bending backwards, if that’s hard, try using a stretch strap to pull your back leg and your back backwards. Then get your over splits by putting your front leg to a chair. This will ensure that your I is straight and squared and you’re pulling in with your upper body and your front leg and not by the momentum of your hip making your I spin centred.

Strengthen your thighs. I was not aware of this. Once you strengthen your thighs, doing half froggie, you will notice your middle splits are a lot closer and your basic turn out is better. And this makes your outside spread eagle a lot flatter.

For beginner figure skaters, I would recommend jackson artiste skates!! I started my lessons in may with them, and I love them so much. They’re really great figure skates for beginners, and should help you out with the basics! They were less than 250$ for me, but they might be more or less expensive depending on where you live. I would recommend these skates to people that are starting to figure skate. I’m soon going to pass my 6 basic levels, and they’ve really helped me! And yeah the jackson artistes would be great for people that are in the basic levels (1-6), in my opinion. I hope this helped whoever’s looking for a good beginner pair of figure skates! :)

Wouldn't say it's more humbling than figure skating. I figure skate and jump horses in hunter jumper competitions. Jumping horses has taught me a lot about the importance of team work and being holistic when my partner just isn't feeling it. Sometimes I great great days and off days. So does my horses. Being a top performer too in martial arts and having all this pressure on me was hard because I felt I couldn't make mistakes, have off days, or struggle. Being holistic has taught me to be more kinder to myself when I'm competing/teaching. The whole I can't have an off day was hard til I just stopped caring about what others said. I allowed myself to have off days and even fall in front of a class one day. I felt free and empowered. Anywho thank you Coach Michelle, you've inspired me for a few years now and helped me on my own journey.

Thanks I have been working on and off on my skating for a year now because of exams and I left when learning my axel and I guess it realy has got me down knowing people get it so fast and I haven’t because I do like 3 attempts every month. I have the rotation I think it’s the height and knowing I can land it that I struggle with. I need to keep trying but it’s gotten me down because in my head I have been trying it a long time but in reality I realy haven’t so it’s sad watching others get it when I still cant.

tip: if you're starting to get good at ice skating and have the money for it BUY REAL SKATES. the rental ones they have are usually super flat and have never been sharpened and once you buy your own ones you will skate like you have never skated before
