I love these tips and I totally agree! I started at age 15 so I have always needed to pay for my own ice time. I started with group lessons in hand-me down skates and skated with them for about two years. They lasted through learning my toe loop! I then purchased stock boots and they work great and I have landed all my jumps up to Lutz so far! I have always skated on public sessions until Covid hit. There is still a lot we can practice, even if it is crowded. I wish there still were public sessions because it is a whole lot cheaper! I got my first dress at a discount store for $10 and stoned it myself. I've never been big on stretching and through videos and tips, I now have the start of a Bielmann! These tips work and are great! Thanks Michelle!

"Top of the line boots" is probably actively bad for skaters near the beginning of their skating journey. The stiffness that gives support for triple and quadruple jumps can be far too stiff for folk who are just learning.

I wore hand me downs that we got from an employee at the rink when I was a kid! Now getting back into the sport I'm shocked by the number of people discouraging hand me downs or used skates, as long as they're not beat to hell they're a good option especially for younger skaters who might not get a lot of time in them anyway

Great video as always! Most of my boots/blades where 2nd hand and they all were in an incredible condition, often times younger skaters won't be able to break in boots of a certain stiffness and then they land on eBay. Luckily group sessions are incredibly cheap in my area and before covid I was looking to get in some private lessons. I started with public sessions bc we don't really have freestyle sessions in smaller rinks and I thought myself with the the help of other skaters a lot during those, especially morning sessions or sessions under the week are not that crowded

Synchro Clubs' consignment sales are AWESOME! you can find some great dresses for low prices. Our club had a consignment sale for dresses every year, but sometimes it felt "weird" to wear someone else's dress that you may know. That's why id check out other sales near by and inquire with their clubs too!

I just bought my first ice skates last month, they are Bladerunners brand and I got a fabulous deal. I bought them "like new" on Amazon for $34.20 with tax! Turns out they are brand new! I still have to get them sharpened and start learning to skate. I have tried them on and walked around a bit with guards on and they fit fantastically! I did put an insert in them for arch support and now they fit perfectly. You can find deals everywhere!

Where I go (mall rink) when you sign up for classes you get free public skate sessions to practice. From what I've seen, a lot of rinks have this. I went to another rink that has unlimited practice sessions for $50 which pays for itself in a week (if you go daily) and this rink was basically empty BUT they prohibited big jumps and spins. 🥺

You can buy pre-loved skates from eBay, That's what I do. I look at the pictures and read the description. I found some skating great deals. Caveat emptor means "let the buyer beware" in Latin; know your boots and blades. Know the policies regarding execution of freestyle elements during open skate sessions; some rinks ban jumps and spins during open skate sessions for liability reasons.💕

Great tips, but there are no hand me down skaters when you wear a size 10 (I looked)! But I did get a huge discount on new MK blades, because they hadn't been able to get rid of that big size! 🤣 Also, it is extremely hard to find skating gear if you're over a size 12 - new or used - I looked almost a year to find skating pants and a jacket my size. Yoga pants and jackets just didn't work for me - they were constantly hiking up or down!

How to deal with intimidating skaters as a newish nonprofessionals skater who can't afford a coach yet. I watch skate tutorials to help me learn on my own but I feel I want a second pair of eyes to tell me if I'm doing things wrong. I want to invest in a coach soon because skating is something that I'm really passionate about. I am very shy so group classes didn't help me and I don't talk to anyone at the rink but have tried in small increments. I just feels like I'm not good enough for them because I'm not as good or I don't have the time to skate like they do. I'm 28 and work a lot going to school and all money pretty much goes to that and survival. Lol But basically. . How to be a confident new skater?

Most adult skaters are more than happy to meet and connect and are going to think it's awesome that you are learning and are going to want to get you connected. It's lonely out there. I totally understand the money thing and time thing (same boat here) I think just getting someone else who is at your level and finding a coach to do a semi-private lesson is the way to go!

I took artistic roller skating lessons level 1 to 3, last time until level 3.. my practices were always free, always anywhere I went in my city. Practices in roller skating can be many times free and you can practice in parks, basketball and tennis courts for free as long as the surfaces are smooth. Unfortunately w/ ice skating, the practices cost and arm and a leg! If skaters pay 10 or 20 sessions per month they will cost $100 to $300 per month! That been said unlimited can cost $800 to over $1000/month!😬

Great content on your channel. I have noticed that what ever light you are using while filming your content (halo light, etc) is causing a glare off your lip gloss. It gives your mouth a weird "milk mustache" vibe. I have also commented on other female creators that have the same issue. Not being mean or critical, but it is a bit distracting and honestly your face / lips do not need to be so 'shiny'.
