Two birds from the same nest, putting their knowledge of games to the test.
We are two brothers from Iceland who have been playing games together ever since we can remember, with a heavy emphasis on the Final Fantasy series. As adults, we both do work related to games:
- Nökkvi (Blue) is an aspiring game studies scholar whose main area of interest is Japanese games, the Final Fantasy series in particular.
- Pétur (Red) works in the game industry in Iceland and as such has a practical understanding of, and experience in, the art of game making.
- Jóhanna is our talented illustrator!
Together we want to contribute to the conversation surrounding games, hopefully deepening our appreciation for the medium as well as growing as people. I mean birds...

bro, the pixel remasters just used all the gba sprites and some updated NES/SNES sprites. they did little to no extra effort to fix or improve the graphics

Not to sound a certain way, but how many times are they going to re-use the same exact names in different forms? It just seems like there's as many versions of "Cid" as there are games, just to name one.
Probably many more times since it is all very deliberate.

I play this game so many time and a few months back I bought the final fantasy pixel remaster on switch a little different from the SNES version but it’s still fun. Even though these characters already have names, sometimes I like to rename them with a different name of someone in my family or someone I know as a good friend.

Stormblood seems like a sloppy story, while the patches make up for a lot of it. Still lame the way Zenos and Yotsuyo were handled. Overall, not the best FFXIV story so far

I just wish the japanese would stop with the androgynous bad guy who sits in his throne with his legs crossed, resting his head on his hand. It's so lame. Do they think that's cool? it's not. Zenos was a terrible character and so was Yotsuyu. Mustache twirling evil just for the sake of being evil. Try some character development that doesn't involve amnesia. sheesh.

@@BirdsOfPlay it's fine! lol, I'm used to people thinking he's useless except nova is bar none the strongest attack in game. In a low level run you clearly see this with how easy it hits the 99,999 and if you mod out damage caps, it even beats anima. but besides that there's other things to know. He is the best character sans Rikku and yuna (rikku for mix, and Yuna for Aeons) But it requires way too much sphere grid knowledge I guess. Point for point he starts off with the best stats, usually either having second or third highest in a stat. Down Lulu's path, he becomes a much faster mage with only slightly less max magic. However, Kimahri's overdrives also do more damage than Lulu's (fire breath/ aqua breath) for they're lower rank, which means faster turn right after AND they ignore magic defense which most enemies will have enough to make Lulu's fury subpar. Most people probably haven't tried mage kimahri to realize just how high scaling fire/aqua breath truly are. Not to mention on the expert grid, you can get Kimahri to snag an early game Holy and then throw down Lulu's path for insane damage.... once he gets enough mp to cast it. Physical kimahri has a few advantages. when compared to say... Auron, Kimahri just wins. His thrust/seed cannon have higher power scaling than Auron's first 3 overdrives (albeit single target) and kimahri's speed advantage while only having a few points less in strength make him do a lot better at Auron's job. (sorry Auron fanboys) and since Auron's real goal anyways is to hti heavy armor and use break skills, Kimahri does it better. Oh, and then there's an early game str +10/5/3 without customization that is available only to Kimahri which makes his phys game already shine to the point he doesn't even NEED piercing and the others can't touch his damage until middle of mid to late game. The only people he can't touch are.. Yuna- no Aeons. No reason to send him down a healer path as well as you only really need one healer if that. Wakka- Can't hit far reach targets, and wakka's accuracy starts off ridiculously high so it takes a while for kimahri to be able to get guaranteed hits on the extreme evade enemies. not that this one is super important. Rikku- Mix is for all things considered broken, and only Rikku has access to it. Plus, her role in the game as the thief who then uses use... use only uses agility. No strength/magic required. So, Kimahri's higher base stats in everything else but agility doesn't get used here. but... having played a double thief game with Rikku and Kimahri I can also say Kimahri does fantastic here too. Steal tons of elemental gems, spam on bosses = gg. He just won't be AS good as Rikku at it.

The game itself brings memories
I played the ever living crap out of this game when I was 18 and mastered the junction system. I played through it again at 36 and couldn't figure out wtf was going on.
Just finished this game last night. Such a beautiful and heartbreaking story and amazing characters, all marred by some of the absolute worst and insufferable gameplay I've ever experienced. Honestly a miserable experience from start to finish, with the story being the only saving grace. And because I hated the gameplay so passionately, I didn't play any of the bonus episodes, so I'm very grateful for this video filling in the gaps with Ardyn, Gladios, Ignis and Prompto. Some of the story beats didn't make sense because I skipped those episodes just out of sheer intolerance for the gameplay. Ardyn is truly a tragic character, holy shit, absolutely gut wrenching.
I tried so hard to get into this game, but it just wasn't for me. I missed the old open world type FF that they seemed to go away from with 10. This game looked beautiful but I just couldn't find a hook to get me into it.

This game is one of my favorite FF ones. The only thing i truly don't like is how forced the ''love story'' between Noctis and Luna feels. I am sure they cared for one another, I just can't see it in a romantic way.

@@BirdsOfPlay I tried :( the style of the environments is dizzying and I spent more time trying to figure out what to do than anything else. Also really disliked the battle system. Just wasn't the game for me but the story is fantastic
I will always have a soft spot as this game being my favorite next to X. X was my first final fantasy and it’s hard to top that. But VIII was just so crazy in thought and you never knew what was going to happen next, a true masterpiece in my opinion!

Holy shit! This is what I wanted FF15 to be.
My wife skipped all the cutscenes but now wants to learn the story before Dawntrail. We dont have enough time for her to marathon all the cutscenes, but this video is probably the best option I've seen yet. Awesome job. Will keep an eye out for more.
