Oh man I LOVE LOVE when you guys do this. It was cool to get it more cemented that they were plotting to destroy the mothercrystals. I kinda got a vague idea from the English trailer only. Also the Primals being soliders of God? Interesting. Clive's little bro also saying he promised to protect everyone, ahhh my heart is gonna break I know it! Besides that I am REALLY excited! Ty for the video. :D
idk which official channel, perhaps the SE one. but the eng subtitles for the JP trailer was so so wrong (literally just EN subs slapped onto the JP trailer) glad to see a video like this letting more people know what the JP trailer was telling! cuz to me, EN and JP are like 2 different storytelling, at least in the trailers
If I put voices in japanese and subs in english, what type of translation I'll get?
What is the song that you used in the video called?

It was a 8-bit song they released. I don't think they've told us the name yet... But here's a link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dnlnj5WAZb2slso.html
Having standards isn’t spoiling oneself. Thanks for the video.
Once again, the JP version is more to my tastes! 1 month to goooo
Thats nice, I was doing the same thing yesterday and notice some high divergences but that's normal. Nice work

Divergences is a good way to describe it I think!
It’s not an American dub it’s British.
Caw caw
If only i can understand japanese then i can play on both language and hv different experiences
2:25 I'm kinda wonder if how they gonna say Japanese-named skills since they did exist in the English version. It's just kinda odd, imagine British accent shouting Japanese name.
@BirdsOfPlay

Sometimes localiser just exchange the shouting of skill names to grunts, so maybe they will do that.

@@BirdsOfPlay Do you think the change between different languages is kinda overboard? Localization still need to be faithful.
Woah Benedikta has efed everybody and their mother there lol it seems Hugo got some and got used as well in some way
According to Yoshi P and Koji, the Japanese language script was written later, based off of the English version of the script, so the Japanese script was not the source this time
@llllumin
Жыл бұрын
No. Kazutoyo Maehiro wrote the script. He wrote it in Japanese. And Koji later localized it. What Yoshi P and Koji said was that the recording was made in English first and then later in Japanese. Regardless, the original script is still in Japanese. Maehiro doesn't write a story in English. And Koji is a translator/localizer, not a scriptwriter. The fact that Koji is there as an English localizer already proves that the script was originally written in Japanese.

This trailer was one of the few times where I actually preferred the English adaptation even more!

@ZephyrK_

That’s because it’s not an adaptation. It was recorded in English first, everything else is a Dub based on the ENG performance

@@ZephyrK_ The script was written in japanese then translated to english and modified for the west so its still an adaptation.
@ZephyrK_

@@jackjohnson8305 It isn’t adaptation. Maehiro is the lead script writer yes, the game is his story and thus he is credited as such but it’s Koji Fox’s modified script (who was working alongside Maehiro to begin with) that is used as the final script for the game. Hence why XVI was originally recorded in English, everything else is based off that vision. The reasoning behind it was simple, they wanted to enhance the immersion of Valisthea by making it as authentic an experience as possible.
First! Was waiting for this! (Will pro'lly comment again once I'm done watching. Lmao)

Alright. The whole "Destroying the mothercrystals" thing is a really big difference. I kinda knew that it's their mission when I saw the Salvation trailer in English during the PS Showcase. But the japanese version at least confirms it. Guess this story really will be different. It also looks like Clive's actions are not gonna be looked upon lightly. Not only will him and the party be wanted criminals, it seems people will genuinely hate them too. Considering they'll be outright destroying something that people have believed in or relied on. Anyway. Great analysis as always.
my only question is who is this person 2:45 maybe it's Typhon's dominant or hooded guy, he also told Clive to awaken ifrit and that he is the child of faith.
@iammicrochip156

That’s Hugo the Dominant of Titan. No one knows who the hooded figure is until the game comes out
@dafire9634

My theory is that the hooded figure is clive himself, kind of like an hallucination, or a manifestation of his dark side
I liked the english trailer more, i think it was more engaging with some parts of the dialogue rather than namedropping characters and plotpoints which is disliked in the west
I’m still so mixed with both the jpn script and English script. Some parts are better in jpn than in English. English’s obsession with breaking from fate is sooo deeply embarrassing while the Japanese focusing on ending the Crystals protection is much deeper and grey. As a long time FF fan I’m still heavily mixed with everything they’ve shown. I simply hope the story is good and worthy of the FF name. Or hey at worst let it be better than FFXII, FFXIII, and FFXV 🤷♂️
The game is recorded first in English and dubbed in Japanese first ff to do this

This is true. Thanks for watching!
Honestly the script and dialogue between the two is making get put off from buying the game... I feel the Japanese script fits way better then English ver, The English translation feels like it's gonna be corny and repetitive
The difference is that the English dub was written first before the Japanese so English =original script.

This isn't a pissing contest. Both versions have their own intrigue.
At this point I wonder if Square thinks we're stupid enough to not realize that they put the Dub voice lines as the official English Subtitles? I mean, there's points where there's clearly too many words even for Japanese.

The English version is way better.
The Japanese dialogue is terrible.

I mean, I kinda agree. According to Yoshi P and Koji, the Japanese language script was written later, based off of the English script. So the Japanese script was not the source this time, as a result the Japanese dialogue isn't as good. Same way if a game has and english script based off ofan original Japanese script, usually the localization of a script in a different language don't hit has hard as the one in the source language

@@OathOblivio This isn’t actually entirely true. Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, and Vinland Saga are great examples of localisation (Japanese to English) working incredibly well. Erwin’s final speech to Lemillion’s fight with Overhaul are leagues better than what the original script produced. Also, the localiser of FF16 said that it was written in Japanese first, English changes were made, and then the Japanese said he adapted the Japanese script to the English, as they liked what English came up with. I’m so tired of people doubting dub translations. Our writers are incredibly talented, and the English language is incredibly rich and vast. We write things like Breaking Bad, Succession, and Boardwalk Empire, though suddenly we are bad when it comes to dubbed anime and games? We have writing techniques that work very well (read the Elements of Eloquence by Mark Forsyth), and the magic of writing lies in rewrites. Rewrites are almost always better. It’s as Stephen King said: ‘Writing is Gold, editing is Divine.’ Learning Japanese is a head-fuck because they speak differently to us and thus translations are almost always completely skewed. We should trust our writers a little more, and FF16 alone attests to that. I mean, Levi Ackerman is played by Matt Mercer. The guy is a genius!
@OathOblivio

@@anastasiosrepousi3397 what you said is correct, and yes, I forget they wrote the rough script in JP, translates to ENG, finalized in ENG then translated back to JP, but also, I said that inferior translation work is usually the case, not always the case. The problem lies in the fact that most translators are not writers and most writers are not translators, not in the difference between languages. It has gotten better with time, like in certain examples where the Dub is better than the original with the rise in translators who are also talented writers, but there are still precious few examples, even with using very recent anime and movies as our sample pool. But it has gotten significantly better in recent years, but not enough to make my state mostly untrue. As such, I will always criticize dubs in any capacity until the quality improves. If they want to get better, they those translators will just have to improve enough to make my statement false in the next few years. But until then, my faith in translation writers is very low bc right now, I haven't said anything wrong regarding the quality of translations
