Kirby: can I use (2) 8 ohm 12db low pass passive xovers in parallel to reach a 24db/octave slope? Have an extra xover here & I'm curious about this application. Thanks for your videos. Al

This is very helpful. I'm trying to add a bluetooth receiver in my Haslab Proton pack. The receiver I bought isn't pushing enough sound through the 3 inch Dayton Audio speaker I just installed. Pack sound is great but I would like to figure this problem out.

Is it accurate at all to just buy a calibrated sound monitor and measure my speakers db in my home? Ive seen a few of them on Amazon in the $30 to $80 range. I have a set of JBL L50's which had a replacement woofer put in by a previous owner, and Id just like to know if its higher or lower than the original woofer specs from the factory in 1979. Thanks.

Knowing how much bass I run through them, I thought the drivers would be wayy thicker. Damn those small drivers deliver A LOT

Hola. Gracias. Hello. About 20 years ago I started manufacturing 3 and 4-way 2nd order crossovers manually, also manufacturing the windings with the Butterworth formulas, but about 5 years ago I started with the Linkwitz formulas to obtain a better response, but what I now see with These softwares have really amazed me. This is a wonder for me. Thank you.

I built a 4 way speaker system. Music is in 4 levels for bass for Body, low mid for Warmth, high mids for Presence, and tweeters for Brilliance. I have 8 ohm speakers, but the Marantz receiver must have 8 ohm impedance. 4 speakers at 8 ohm parallel would be 2 ohms and fry the receiver finals. So, 2 speakers in series is 16 ohm, and another set of two for 16 ohm, when paralleled equal 8 ohms. I put the woofer in series with the tweeter using capacitors and coils to get low frequencies to the 12 inch woofer and highs to the 3.5 inch tweeter. The other set is 8 inch low mid in series with a 5 inch for high mids. I have acoustic suspension cabinets. The sound I get from the speakers is crisp and natural. Orchestra music is the most difficult to replicate, and these speakers sound as close to being there as the $1000+ speaker systems will. Yes, there was a lot of engineering used to calculate everything, starting with free air resonance of each speaker.

I’m 15 and I started out buying a $25 Logitech surround sound system at savers (witch was acually ok) to now wanting a set of $800 Sony speakers (I don’t have 800 to spend on speaker) so I think this might be the way 😂 I’m really good with electronics woodworking really a lot so I don’t think it will be a problem

Was planning on getting a Sennheiser HD600, but after this video, i will probably get another Hifiman. I love planars and the sound they produce. Bought the HE400se and was really impressed. So will try to get the Arya next. That would be my end game.

Nothing came next week, must of gone bust 😂 shame though, measuring these babies would have seen whether they lived up to the hype. Seems an exceptionally complex design (3 way and all xover components), I stuck to 2 way using higher quality (scanspeak) drivers, boom, solved!

I'd like to add a correction I think, don't worry what the look like, worry about what they will sound like. That's why you build speakers. Form follows function. For everyone out there I can tell you across the board SB Audience are the "best" speaker drivers for the money, better than 99% of what's out there. Only thing, can only get them from Madisound. But still decent prices. SB Audience (Indonesia) is the only speaker builder that I know is 100% vertically integrated. In other words, no outside parts go into their speakers. Everything in house. From tweets, to mids, to woofers and subs, they really are a hard speaker to be, especially for the price. A 3 way tower speaker would run $300 on up for each speaker with SB Audiience entry level drivers. And still will sound great because they only make "Professional level" speakers.

Better with sealed box enclosures...if ported to much bass lag & long time resonances...better a bigger box with an accurate bass & midrange response than a bad resonant MILLSA frequency roll off response..ATC only use sealed cabinets as more accurate & faster frequency response in the bass & mids ...i use PreSonus Eris Ex8's, ported but i filled the bass port with heavy density foam...now a faster bass/lower mids...it really makes a difference when mixing... all the best monitor speakers use sealed box's, ATC etc, transmission line if designed right, my favourite but not cheap, PMC etc...even passive radiators are better than ports for more accurate bass & mid-range ...i built a pair of passive monitor speakers ,i built them 0.8m in height but put an HDF internal partition board to get the right volume after running a Thiele Small Paramaters CAD software check... designed a small footprint speaker so no need to buy stands & i can have as big or small an internal cabinet volume as i need....the bottom seperate partition is filled with sand, internal walls lined with copper foil as the bottom section contains a seperate box for the crossovers...this defo improves sound as no EMF etc to upset the crossover's performence, 45+ yrs has taught me no ports with monitors if you want a more accurate easier to mix bass & lower mids...good luck if i could afford them i would buy PMC active Transmission Line monitors or ATC sealed box active monitors....you get a more accurate tighter bass especially if transmission line monitors...hard to design & build but worth it...good luck...do you have a build video ?....right seen the link..i take it they are gonna be passive not active bud ?...active speakers are better when mixing music but i have heard some fantastic passive monitor speakers if you have good amplification..will look for the build video....sealed box's are more accurate & easier to design but you will need more enclosure size, the ones i built were closed units but had enough room for decent bass, a SEAS 8" bass unit....the cabinet was 9 1/2" wide x 11 1/2" deep x 0.8m in height without spikes & base.. 0.86m with base & spikes ...now to watch the next one ...good job so far ...i would tune the port to speakers unity for the fastest & best bass response...
