This just satisfied that little kid in me that ALWAYS wants to see how it works...this way, I'm not the one breaking anything.

Such a good feeling! Thanks for watching!
The double feelings of "oh this is interesting!" and "don't hurt that poor speaker!" at the same time 😅

I can't see what Amplifier chips and DACs are used in this sonos iteration, did anyone distinguished it ?
thanks for the effort to keep us updated on the latest.
Thanks Kirby! I was actually quite curious of the hardware differences between the gen1 & gen2. I also appreciate the dancing, such satisfaction in reassembling and having it repaired / functioning!
This was such a classic KMA video ! Loved it.
Thank you so much! I want to paint the housings, and this video is just what I needed. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Thanks for the video, i purchased a 2nd hand One which had a dented grill ....... no more, now i have been able to safely separate it I have tapped it back into shape. Like it never happened, thank you Kirby
Really enjoying the chilled out feel of your latest vids.
Lol that face you made when it popped Haha priceless! Thanks for sharing!
Love the videos as always! You have definitely started me on a new hobby! Ready to see more of your CNC design work.
thank you for all the informative videos, always fun to watch!
Always interesting to see what's inside. Thanks for the teardown and glad it still works. Built my first speakers back in high school (35+ years) mainly because I couldn't afford anything else. I cursed at them every time I moved but loved the sound. Nowhere as fine as the stuff that I have seen you put together, would be great to get your kit. Cheers, Scott
I love the way you have changed your style delivery. You seem happier! Keep it up

Tx for all you do to help us learn more. I saw your kit and they look great. I wish i could have one!
Great video! Been checking your videos out for a few months now. Inspired me to tackle gutting a mid century GE record player console and updating it with modern components. I truly enjoy your videos. Thank you!
This was therapeutic to watch. Excellent video my dude!
Great video! Been watching your stuff for a long time. Your videos inspired me to start making speakers! Your white and walnut faced book shelf speakers are one of my favorite.

@@KirbyMeetsAudio Absolutly!!! I actually followed along with your prototype speakers in your 5 part series and am currently building them for myself, but with a front port. I just got a little carried away with getting a really clean paint job and I think I'm on my 3rd painting run.
Thank you from Brazil!
Interesting tear-down/rebuild of the Sonos.. I've done similar with other brands' speakers

I liked the tear down my man keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video! Will def be checking out your speakers!
Interesting! I get to learn what's inside without destroying mine! Lol! Love the channel! Keep it up!
Well done. Good to see a manufacturer that allows access to drivers so they can be replaced.
Bro,please make this with the new symfonisk (Ikea x Sonos) Speakers and lets see if whe can remove the regular Speaker and put the receiver unit on a regular subwoofer,so we dont have to spend 700 on a Sonos Sub :)
I loved watching this. More things should be able to be taken apart (and put back together again!) and I love the curiosity here. I also liked hearing your comments on the glass fibers in the ABS. I learned a few things there. There's a general feeling of "Buy a new one!" when something breaks, rather than repairing it yourself. But it's usually cheaper and quicker to fix it yourself. I can't tell you how many 3.5 inch phono plugs I've replaced (male & female) on various devices, and most of the time, that broken connector was the reason it was tossed out. Be curious! Take things apart! And learn how it all works!
I really enjoy Ave’s vids. Nice to see something similar. Subscribed!
Nice, funny, interesting and instrucktive video! Keep on like that !
Nice video! Thank you. Awesome cap by the way!
The interesting part of the sonos is the active filter to separate the tweeter sound from the boomer. This is an active active crossover filter managed the processor like a DSP. So there is a bi-amp : it mean a separate amp for the tweeter and the bass speaker. It’s not an old school filter with caps and coils. The DSP parameters can be set in function of the room thanks to the mobile app. This is very intelligent. Except that I don’t like a lot the amp : there is a little hiss when the amp is on. But it still a very good speaker for this small enclosure (better price/sound quality than sonos 3 or 5). I look forward the ikea/sonos version if it is the same than the play one it will be the best speaker for the price.
nice video Kirby love to see the guts of electronics keep the cool videos coming

Watched this with no interest in a Sonos, but still watched and enjoyed the teardown. Going to be building myself my first sub box and cabinets for separates in the next few weeks. Got a plan now just need the materials.

Your vids are always informative and fun. Keep up the work. I have been watching and subscribed for a few years . I woul love to have one of your speaker kits for my livingroom but my current financial situation has me too limited to get one. Again awesome as always brotha!!
Do you have a link for that tool kit you used? Really interesting video...glad it still worked afterwards.
Yay! KMA kit! :finger_crossed:
I loved your face expression when you reassembled the speaker and try to test it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those were some pretty nice looking drivers.

Pretty awesome design!
“Let’s see if she lets the smoke out.” 😂 haha good video as usual. I’m kinda surprised there were no weird wave guides or anything... just a woofer with an absurdly large magnet. I guess they get their oomph from signal processing
Great job of disassembly and especially the reassembly! I have a number of Sonos products and don't like to see one hurt.

I like the way you having fun with your screwdriver, is it new hahaha that will be me
Hey, love your vids!! Been watching them for a while and have really wanted to make a sound bar for my living room. You should definitely do more tear downs! Maybe a high quality sound bar video?
I'm impressed you didn't break it. That's usually what happens when I try to do something like this. 😅
So interesting. Cheers!
Keep it up love your videos . Helped me make my latest pair of speakers.
interesting to see the build of a high quality speaker. most would be so scared to do this.
Nice video, entertaining well presented and edited. Bet you won't send a kit to Australia 😃

Bery good tip 👌
Thanks Kirby! Any branding on the drivers?
Would you be able to get a closer look at the other side of that top PCB at 6:09 please - some are saying that there are only 4 mics in the Gen2 vs the 6 mics that were in the Gen1 and I wonder if there were any on the top of the unit?
Nice vid Kirby, that means I don't have to do that myself on my own

I’ve been watching a lot of your vids and love your work. Love electronics and wood working and this is the perfect combination. I want to get into the design aspect with amps/crossovers. I see you use Dayton Audio, any other recommendations for quality parts?
Hey Kirby. Kinda interesting, although i would never buy speakers like that. Looking forward to the new shop tour and bigger speaker builds!

Both coming in the future! Thanks!
Great video but did you ever find what made the poping noise?
Nice teardown, have owned a PLAY:1 in the past and today got a Sonos One (Gen 2) for the new kitchen. I think it has 512MB of ram versus 256MB, but the chips for in gigabit, for 4Gbit == 512 Mbyte. Plenty for all the DSP / networking this little guy needs.
I liked the video keep up the good work..

Will do! Thanks for watching!
Good job bro so with this kind of speakers its normal that its a bit warm only a bit even at idle?and also the sonos arc is a bit warm too even when its not in use so its normal?thank you 🙏
I like it because its different from what you do I was waiting to hear you say ok wooden box 📦 enclosure next.....
great video! How did you keep the screws organized?

All willy nilly like and hope they don’t roll into each other. Thanks so much for watching!
You're the first reviewer to really give any credence to why the did a second generation of the One (not including the Play:1). I had a few original Play:1's and I still think they're a great investment (if you're buying second hand).
Would be really nice to see a measurement of the tweeter and woofer output from the amplifier and see what processing has been applied, at different output levels.
Thanks Kirby. Any chance of doing a Sonos beam teardown? Love to compare insides

You the best KZreadr ever
Interesting video and you know the lingo, great work! Those microphones (look like MEMS) could have their opening on the underside, where the solder is, and listen through a hole in the PCB.
do you know where i can find an other woofer like this that ? i have to change it
Seeing your videos made me want to make my own speaker cabinet. So I bought a bluetooth 5.0 amplifier board from china and now I am after speakers that covers a noce range of frequencies to make it happen. Thanks for the inspiration. P.S.: Finding those speakers are harder than I tought, I am completely lost not knowing where to search and triying no to make it not too much expensive.
Always thought these guys had a passive radiator to tune this bad Larry down since it digs deep for its size. Debunked! Super cool teardown.
I have this speaker and it just recently stopped working. The power inlet doesn't seem to power up whether using the current cable or another from a currently functioning Sonos One. Do you have any thoughts where I would trouble shoot this? I watched your video twice and can't seem to figure it out. I'm not a smart man...
Hey Kirby, fun video! How would you compare the sound quality between the Sonos One Gen 2 and the Elder Bluetooth speaker?
Great video! I am afraid to open mine so now I dont have to.
Savage audio 😂
I’m six months late! Hahah loved this video!
I would love to see you take the boards inside the Sonos and make a custom speaker with Sonos internals.
What's the Ohm and Wattage of the Woofer and Tweeter?
Loved this vodeo. Saw a teardown of the Play:1 -- the One 2nd Gen seems more complicated imside. Cam you please do a teardown of the Sonos Beam? I'd really appreciate it.
So, you need to cut open a piece of the "sticker" with a knife in order to access the screw heads that would otherwise not be visible? How did you manage to locate the exact positions of the various screws?
It would be cool to see you build your own enclosure for this.

💡 great idea! I’ll put it on the list. Thanks for watching!
Anyone know where to get a replacement speaker? Mine is shot.
I'd love a kit! I've been fancinated by woodwork for quite a while now, I repaired an old subwoofer for my car - turned out looking like crap, and sounding pretty bad too, but hey - it was free! I also built a couple of headrest speakers, that sounded totally horrible (cheap speakers and bad recycled wood). So it would be awesome to build something that actually would sound nice. The looks... well I'm not making any promises. Oh, Added difficulty if you happen to choose me. I live in Sweden. All the best dude!
So anybody knows the output power of the class D amplifiers or the output power of the speakers?I can't seem to find what power these have and without that I have no way to compare these to my other speakers. I want to know if I throw a party how many of these I will needed.
How does the sonos one sound compared to your elder bluetooth kit, they are about the same price so...just wondering...
@KirbyMeetsAudio
5 жыл бұрын
I would say (being very unbiased) my elder speaker sounds MUCH better than this guy. Stereo vs mono. BUT if you plan to build out a whole home audio network setup, the Sonos is the right choice. Thanks for watching!
