I have a question of you have time to read it- I’ve never owned a snake and don’t know people who own snakes, but I’m looking for a snake to keep me company off at college next year, so think like a dorm/small apartment situation. I’m kinda looking for a snake that is chill, mellow, and doesn’t move around all that much, while still having some personality. Kinda looking for a companion type snake, one that would be content to just chill on my lap, around my neck, or maybe on a desk/bed while I study or work. I’ll have a fairly busy schedule, but definitely have at least 30 minutes a day to spend handling a snake, and doing weekly upkeep (such as feeding, cleaning, anything a snake would need- I’ll do more research on specific requirements once I narrow down the species). I was looking at Rosy boas, but I’m a bit deterred by their reputation of being a bit bitey. I don’t want a snake that is too narrow bc I’ve always been scared of losing a snake lol. But also ideally nothing too long, but the size of a small ball python is fine. Any advice?

Hello again… I have a question for you. I just wanted to know if a new hatchling would eat on its own if I didn't handle it every other day to feed it. It's just I'm going out of town and I have my daughter coming over to take care of my reptiles and I was hoping she could mist and just change out the food. I'm just afraid that the little one may not find food on its own. This one was hatched on Mother's Day. The other two eggs prior to this batch did not make it. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. I was feeding them every other day and keeping them moist. It looked like there might've been something wrong with their little hands. They looked like a couple of the fingers were sort of fused together or maybe it was just a bad shed. It's just really hard to see when they're so small. Thank you so much for the information and also is it normal when you first put two geckos together to have something wrong with the first couple clutches?. This is just a little Home project. I am not selling them or anything.
@creaturecoveАй бұрын
Yes, your hatchlings should eat on their own right from the egg. I just hand feed and handle often to make sure they are well conditioned for their new homes. Make sure not to feed at all (just mist at night) the first 3 days out of the egg. This is when they learn to eat their own shed skin. If you feed too soon, they may never pull their skin off and this could lead to life long shedding issues. Do you just have 1 pair together? It can be normal for the 1st clutch to be infertile, maybe even the 2nd, but they definitely shouldn't continue to be abnormal. It sounds like something could be wrong with their conditions or with the parents being bred together.
@carlakellie6674Ай бұрын
@@creaturecove thank you so much for your reply. I had those two separated and they were in about 74° in little shoebox containers. Maybe I fed them too soon. I think I did after the second day. The little one I have now is from a clutch that only was one egg by itself. I guess that might not be called a clutch, but she only laid one that month.
@carlakellie6674Ай бұрын
@@creaturecove I wonder if there isn't enough ventilation in there shoebox bin. I have put numerous holes on the sides and on the top. Also, both clutches hatched at around 84 days, is that too soon do you think? I live in AZ. So it's hard to find a room that is under 74° so that is about the temp that they are living in. It's so sad to watch these little ones thrive a little bit and then just decline and pass away.😣

@6strings735Ай бұрын
VE racks are very nice. The tubs are nice and thick, and what that means is that there has to be something in the tub to trap heat. While 1 paper towel layer is better than nothing, more heat would be trapped if you use "packing paper" which is available online, Amazon or at Home Depot or Lowes and similar. It is unprinted newspaper, and it holds heat very well underneath it. Do like 4+ layers of that, and you will notice the temperature holding better. Plus the rosies will go under it and love it. And it is less expensive than paper towels if you go by the square foot.

@T33wh72 ай бұрын
@@creaturecove from Pangea. They say to use it as an add in not a staple diet for breeding adults and not for babies at all. Also if you go look at the crested closets face book there was allegedly a lot of problems with the growth and breeding diet.
@creaturecove2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your response! I will definitely research this further and make the appropriate changes if needed. I was given different information by many reputable breeders and keepers.
@T33wh72 ай бұрын
@@creaturecove that’s odd as a lot of the reputable breeders are the ones that personally told me to go look at the info again when I was feeding hatchlings and juvis growth. I’ve been messing with Cresties since like 2010 and have taken several trips recently to acquire animals see facilities and talk to the “big dawgs”. Among others I got some of tikis Capp line and rbm wish I would have got a lily from tiki he had one that the sire was rialto and my dumb self missed it! and I got some axanthic and Hets from altitude. You can probably email or call them but while I was at Pangea they told me the nutrients are for breeding adults not young. You can mix it in with other diets as an additive especially if you skip a day or week of bugs but it’s not good for babies also the flavor isn’t that good so they will eat less and grow slower.
@T33wh72 ай бұрын
It’s ment to put on those extra couple grams before breeding and high cal and you don’t want too much calcium for growing babies too much calcium in any age is worse than low calcium and mbd. It’s also high in fat as geckos lose weight during breeding and it’s better if they have extra fat to lose rather than their muscles or the little fat they normally have and need to be healthy.

I actually do have the packing paper. I was going to use it, but I felt like paper towels would be softer for them😆 I may try the packing paper and see how it works for us. Thanks!!
Such a good comprehensive video thank you so much
Our baby is literally watching this lol we got our crested gecko about 3 wks ago based on his size and he weighs 3 g. I am thinking he’s maybe two or three months old. But I’m just worried he’s not getting enough to eat, but he’s maintaining his 3 g since we brought him home but he hasn’t gotten any bigger so being longtime bearded dragon mom I just was concerned about if we were feeding him enough since he’s my first.
It sounds like you're doing great!
I love the vids
I knew they have live birth- Neat- Would like to make a purchase of one of these from you…..Let me know how to go about it .
Head to the website. We currently have one of the albinos available. www.thecreaturecove.com
Awwww, mega cuteness❤
I don't think that I have ever seen a baby boa get born! So cute how they come out snoot first and gasping, such adorable babies.❤❤❤
I loooove the, all, poor kinked babies at the end ❤❤❤❤🥺
It makes my heart sad that this video has so many more comments than your rosy boa videos! Where's the rosy love? I don't understand why they're so weirdly unpopular, I adore them! (I like geckos too of course, but cute stripey snakes are adorable too!!)
Right!?!?
This locality of rosy boa's colours always reminds me of peanut butter and jam. ❤ I really hope that I'll be able to adopt a rosy this year but Canada doesn't have very many of them so finding one might be a trick. I'm hoping my first one will be one of the cream coloured ones with chocolate brown stripes but I'll be stoked to find any rosy up here!!
Or strae
Could you use hay as a substrate
I would not recommend it. Hay can mold if there is moisture. It is also dusty and could have bugs that you don't want to introduce.
You could also just use a cabinet handle.
Yes! I also use really large beads and just hot glue them on as well. You can make some super cute bins playing around with different things.
Adorable 😊
First year for my daughter and I. We have 5 fertile eggs so far. Mom was in bioactive enclosure and could only find a single egg last month i looked everywhere but only found the one so i hope she layed a single.
Super fun and exciting! I have a female that will only drop 1 egg every once in a while. Definitely not unheard of. Or in a few months, you'll have a baby cruising around the enclosure😁
Growth and breeding is terrible for babies and you deff don’t need to add calcium to any of the Pangea or repashy especially the growth and breeding.
Where did you get your information from?
@@creaturecove from Pangea. They say to use it as an add in not a staple diet for breeding adults and not for babies at all. Also if you go look at the crested closets face book there was allegedly a lot of problems with the growth and breeding diet.
Thank you for your response! I will definitely research this further and make the appropriate changes if needed. I was given different information by many reputable breeders and keepers.
Omg how cuuuute ❤ looks so cozy
I’m interested in the enclosures
I have a video posted on how to make crested gecko hatchling bins. I also sell them 😁
Do you feed them twice a day?
Once every other day.
@@creaturecove Thank you so much. Mine were born on Saturday and they have already pooped out their shed. I guess with a little bit of food and I've just been giving them a couple of licks every day. Thanks so much for the info. This is so exciting.
Oh, can you tell me at what stage you start leaving the food in there enclosure
I hand feed them starting on the 3rd day after birth. I hand feed them and leave the food dish in their enclosure with them at all times.
@@creaturecove OK thank you so much. I will do the same then.😉🥰
Would you recommend LED lights instead for rosy boas?
I have only one crested gecko. Maybe when I move to a different place and have more space, I could potentially think about getting another crested gecko so I could start a breeding project of my own. Living in an apartment isn’t really the best option for this sort of thing. Bioactive enclosures are great, but initially it takes a bit of work to put them together.
My first ones hatched today. I'm so excited.
It's so amazing, right?!
@@creaturecove yes it is🙌🏽
