I have had the fortune, good and bad, to have had the opportunity to own, ride and wrench on a lot of different motorcycles. Having worked in the power sports industry, managing and selling & servicing different manufacturer brands, I want to share with you what I've learned over the years and help you enjoy the ride!

So glad I found this. Helped me diagnose and fix the problem.
Me too!
Just sat through about 11 videos on how to do this and left feeling even more confused, watched your and I can confidently adjust my suspension now 😅
That's great to hear!
Not satisfied with the wind beating me on ST1300. otherwise a nice bike.
im new to learning how to adjust valve clearances, but shouldn't you actually measure the original shim to get the accurate measurements instead of just going based off what's printed on the shim itself?
I think you need to rewatch the video. Measurements of the gap between the cam and the shim/bucket are taken before removing the cams/shims. These measurements alone don't help you get correct shims if you don't have a starting point which is the size of the shim currently on the valve. @@RodRidesWrenchesahh gotcha. Must have missed it 🤙
Love the level of detail in this video. You should do something similar for the VFR1200.
just found your chanel, good videos! haha subscribed
Awesome thanks!
do you think these mods would work on the CTX1300?
of course.
In lieu of a friend, can the rear be held up be a paddock stand? TIA
you can try it, may find the rear stand unstable when applying force to the front end.
@@RodRidesWrenches The cheap Harbor Freight stand was sketchy but worked. Thanks again.
I have a bike Yamaha fz25 it's inlet range 0.05-0.10 exhaust range 0.08-0.13,can you advise the best clearance for power & efficiency?
How much power are you expecting to get out of 250cc's? Don't mess with valve shimming keep to the factory specification, your bike should have An intake gap of between 0.05 and 0.10mm, the exhaust 0.08 to 0.13mm. There is not much room to play with here. Understand that the gap between the cam and valve will tighten over time so get shims that aim for a gap that in in the middle of these two factory specified measurements or leans toward the greater range of the allowable gap. More is discussed in this latest video kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGablKmNlKq6g6Q.html
Thanks for the review. Clears things up.
When rotating the crankshaft for TDC, I've noticed that some shop manuals do not specify clockwise or counter clockwise. At this point what should you do?
What is important is to rotate the engine in the direction it would be turning while running to keep proper tension on the chains and cams. This typically means counterclockwise from the left and clockwise from the right side. I discuss in more detail in this latest video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGablKmNlKq6g6Q.html
Very good video. But while you should round down for the max shim size (as you stated), you should round up for the min shim size. The min shim size would be 2.95 mm in your example. Rounding down would give you 2.9 mm which would result in 0.34 mm clearance which is out of spec. Rounding up gives you 0.29 mm clearance which is in spec.
Great video. Shared with my mom
Why all the stupid noise and music in the background???? Very distracting 👎
agreed on looks, that 6th gen speaks to me.. damn, I am in the market for a used bike. was looking the whole time on yamaha fazer 1000 to cover some miles, but damn, I just might go for 6th gen vfr...
The guy on the motorcycle is being chased by a giant yellow jacket.
Fabulous info great video, thank you......still too nervous to do it haha
No worries! Thanks for the comment & view!
People love the bikes they own, and will defend them to the last.. unless you really did buy a lemon. I have just bought a 1991 VFR750 RC36, in white, white wheels & with the blue seat.. all original with 14k miles.. I love the sound of the gear driven cams. It was a big part of the reason I bought it 😊 I try to buy bikes I’ve always wanted, so my small collection of 90’s era sport bikes reflects my biking passion.. Peace 🙏🏽
Wow ! Interesante video ! Mucho trabajo le has metido a tu moto . Saludos desde México
Muchas gracias por el comentario y la vista!
All I say is that I'm valve curious
Everybody is a little.... Thanks for the comment and view!
Love this series ❤
Love your comments and views!
Completely comprehensive and easy to understand!
Excellent tutorial. Intervals are shorter, but personally I'd so much rather deal with screw/nut adjustment.
If Honda would have put RC45 front plastic on a 5th gen VFR, they would have made the perfect motorcycle.

Nice review. Very informative considering I'm in the market for a sports tourer.
I reckon you nailed it in your review. I bought exactly the same bike you reviewed. 2006, vario panniers, same genuine crash bars as well. After a few years I bought a 2009 wr 250r. Now I have the best of both worlds . I look forward to more of your no bullshit honest reviews
Thank you 🙏🏼✨ You have just helped me confirm that my regulator are dead! Tak you for a great video.
So, what did you look at when you went to purchase the bike. YOu had paperwork to look thru? YOu could have seen the rets nest wiring job too. Granted, you did not get the entire picture from the seller, but there were a few tell tale signs.
The clutch heavy marks should be 120 degrees from each other and the flywheel, not 180 correct? Thank you very much for taking the time to explain how things work.
07 r1200rt here with 120k miles. Wonderful bike
Proud owner of a 2006 vfr 800 with 12,000 miles and i love it
Loved the videos, what are your thoughts about a Kawasaki Concourse 2015 with 30k miles is it a good investment at $7.5k
Most of these, especially the 6 speed bikes will need a new gearbox input shaft and clutch slave cylinder in little as under 20 k miles! Ive worked on all brands of bikes, and these things are most of the time scrap by that mileage
Thanks for your video. I made this in my CBF1000. Cam chain was noisy when bike cold. Today tests. 😊🇵🇱
Hi from USA.
I have a 2005 in red and I love it. I bought a beaded seat cover at a swap meet for 10 bucks years ago.. really has helped..let's the air get in between me and the seat❤.
I will not buy a Sprint , I am looking at Suzuki SV 650 with high bars. . way beter on fuel. . .
About front brake, mushy fell was my problem, , So I swapped the lines from one long and a bypass to 2 longs line from a Tiger model and a little sanding of the rotors inside and outside . .Stoppies were achievable
I had a Sprint S/T 1050. . .3 cylinders 😃 A sound 🤣 high low rev torque and a shitty seat. . back hache after 40 minutes riding. . And nasty turbulences at 100 km/h. .I fixed with a few oval holes in the wind screen. . No more helmet bumping with passager. .
A few month ago, I saw a video about a 25 years old guy that a Honda like this one, stripped it for off road ! ! ! ! He had a ball riding fire road with it then he went wilder. . attempted at a clif ! ! ! very steep and high slope. . . He almost reached up but just almost. . . . he dropped it and it tumbled down the cliff for more than a minute it broke most all plastic parts, broke one handle bar one head cover IT was atrocious. . . He picked some tools, silicone and a portable welder , went back to the big honda, fixed all he could , then it fired right up, drove down and. . . . . turned around and charged straight up and made it. . . . loosing parts along the climb, , ,It was MAD, , and the destroyed Honda road back home on the road ! ! ! ! Theses big Hondas are INDESTRUCRABLE. . almost ETERNAL. . . as GODs. .
Did my brakes the other week and did almost all of things shown in this video, as this is how I've been doing the. For years but bleeding and topping up the res for literally hours did absolutely nothing. Only when I replaced the cover and membrane inThe master cylinder did it begin to build pressure. Its all done now and it passed inspection (mot in the UK) but air seems to be in the system as the lever pulls back to the bar Initially, before pumping up back to pressure. Just wondering now if the master cylinder needs a refurb, as it's had new caliper seals an d braided hoses fitted
I had the same problem with my vmax after fitting new braided hoses, brake pressure is fine but next day back to the bar, pump it up and get pressure again. Before ordering a new master cycliner rebuild kit check the bleed nipples as you might need new ones, mine were leaking a little fluid overnight, fitted new ones and all now OK. Don't open the bleed nipples too much when bleeding as this will allow air into the system, 1/4 turn is sufficient, also apply a little copper grease to the bleed nipple threads before installing new ones as this creates a barrier that air can't get past so easily. We live and learn don't we.
What is the proper procedure for attaching and removing positive and negative battery charger cables for a Lithium-Ion motorcycle battery ?
Is it common for AGM batteries to overcharge? I have hard wired two separate RR and still get 16-17 volts at battery in idle. Both RR have passed diode testing, there is zero continuity, and even have about 3 separate and solid grounds set. And for some reason, still cannot get voltage under control. I took battery down where I bought it, and they said it was 100 percent charged. I have gone through 2 batteries in the span of 3-6 months. (swelled up)
Also, how can one test the regulator on the RR? I am assuming just because the diodes are working does not mean the regulator is...
Great video! I have a Honda Rebel 500, and just love what they’ve done as a company overall.
Great explanation and tips
I don't know what the original video was like but I thought this one was great :) Agree on BMW grips = too heated, or not heated enough. There is no "just right" lol
I have a more favorable opinion of it as a touring bike than you do. But I think it is largely due to what I think of as touring. (2007 R1200GS former owner looking for newer GS - I think). I had a full boat LT for years, and was hotly debating an RT or GS back in 07. The GS for my touring purposes checked more boxes. I want an "every road" tourer. I am not going off road, but I want to take that dirt/gravel road, really enjoy the twisty roads (I live in the mountains), and cruise easily along the highway. All while being able to pack a good bit of kit and take my lovely wife along with me. The GS for me just ticks all the boxes. I put a Russell Daylong saddle (heated), and a bestrest backrest on it for the wife and it was wonderful, meeting all my expectations. Side note - I never understood the dislike for the turn signals. I had ridden many other bikes with the traditional setup before the BMW and it was like a revelation how intuitive I found the BMW's setup. I guess I am just weird that way. But I loved your review as I sift through youtube reviews trying to determine my next bike - narrowed to Used GS (really high on my thought process) - Used Stelvio - or Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel
