Genuine question, but where did the material used in the beginning come from? Like, did they go LOOKING for that? Or did they make that? Because both are just, so bad and gross.

Saying Trump isn’t a fascist because he doesn’t believe in fascism is like saying Tom isn’t a murderer because Tom didn’t believe he killed Mike, even thought Tom was found at the scene covered in Mike’s blood and holding the murder weapon, and Tom had been talking about how murder can benefit him personally for years.

i am deeply offended that not only is this the first time you've shown your cat tommy, but that he isn't seen prominently in every single video fr tho when you mentioned blood meridian i got giddy like a 14 year old girl meeting whatever popular musician 14 year old girls like these days. I've read and reread that book so many times that I've lost count. it's so wonderfully beautiful and ugly in almost equal parts and the constant swaying between those two poles somehow elevates both. few books have had such an effect on me like blood meridian has and whenever i see anyone else mention it i get all excited and won't shut up about it to them for the rest of the night

Hi! This might seem random... well it kinda, but anyway. What is you opinion on anime? I'm asking because there is one that might just suit your tastes. it's weird, psychological, horryfing but beautiful on it's delivery, it's called Mononoke (not to be confused with Princess Mononoke). I think really you will like it, and maybe you could make an essay about it, due to it's themes

Trump is a Capitalist is a moronic critical thinking for simpleton who don't what Capitalism is! If Trump is Capitalist then, why Trump has strong nationalistic "America First" rhetoric and a strong Protectionism argument! Trump isn't a Capitalist, even if he tried. If someone said that Trump is a Capitalist, is an idiot who don't know about economic or Socialist who don't care about being honest! This is pathetic of critical thinking who don't know Capitalism, stop acting like you know something about Capitalism, if can't give a definition or explained of Capitalism & Economic!

me personally, i always hated the idea that the labyrinth is hell. i liked the original two movies and the book implying that the cenobites and where they come from is its own thing. you enter heaven by dying, having lived a life of resisting wants and gain eternal pleasure and enlightenment. you enter hell by dying, having lived a life giving into wants, and are refused enlightenment and pleasure for never ending pain and restraint. the labyrinth doesnt kill you at all, instead making you something in between, and they restrain you, and inflict your desires to such a degree that its painful, until it turns into pleasure and enlightenment. the labyrinth can be described as A HELL but not THE hell. it doesnt match any description of hell, or heaven. even the divine comedy, the first two levels arent THAT horrible. 3 and down is more traditional hell but just two extremes, but they ARE a punishment, the labyrinth is legitimately NOT a punishment, as no matter how much we dont like it, the cenobites arent trying to "hurt" people. they hate emotional torment. not even just the "no tears" quote, their WHOLE thing is they are the alternative that LIVING beings seek when life feels worthless and the afterlife isnt desired. they say as much, just not in those exact words. thats what makes them so horrifying to me, they want to HELP you. they just dont understand its not help. although, judging by franks conflicting recollections, Julia's willingness, and the fact that ALL cenobites are once-humans. (which neither angels or demons are, were, or ever will be human.) its much more interesting, and to me, far more horrifying AND beautiful to think that the cenobites arent good or evil. malevolent or benevolent. angel or demon. heaven or hell. right or wrong. they are all of them, to the fundamental core, their own thing

First to go against the overall vote here, I actually found the prequel a decent attempt to explain some aspects touched on in the original. Now was it on par NO! Did I still like the movie yes. Was it lacking in major areas YES, yet I still like it. On the other hand now the 1982 movie felt like that time period and the actors felt like that period of movie making so that in itself worked just on its own. The effects used were exceptional for it time period and I see them as superior to CGI of today. Aliens and the predator also benefited from that in early chapters from lack of CGI. In 2011 the actors did not flow well together at all. They did not feel like actors from that time period and it showed as unnatural . They could not express the true nature of the human reaction to that situation. My favourite scene in 2011 was the ice scene where the Thing escapes. After that it basically is lacking any sense of real terror until The last and only scene that makes the movie work partially is the dog running and being chased by the Norwegian’s in the helicopter leading to the US outpost 31. I would love to see a 3 part finally to The Thing 1982 where it’s actually back in civilization. Unless Russel is the lead and Carpenter writes it I can’t see any success with it so for me that’s the only recipe for its success and they should use old school gore with no or very little CGI hopefully.

The book states that the box is just one gateway among many, meant to crack up the surface of reality to show the realms beyond which are even more real than ours. Pain is used in certain rituals of very black magic as a generator of energy. I once talked to a man who admitted that he traveled to Africa to witness the genital mutatitalion of girls. Next he told stories about cults in Africa which practise human sacrifices, the slower the death and the greater the pain the more energy is created. He was all the time talking in that casual cocktail party voice interspised with giggles while icicles where playing on my spine. I thought he participated in that stuff and left that bar as fast as I could.

This is facinating to me as someone who has not read the books nor watched the movies. Though I have read a lot of fantasy romance, including some camp 2000s paranormal romance. The first book is two years older than me, I am sixteen. This was a very different perspective to what I have seen before, and it makes me want to read and analyse the books at some point. I could get them from my op shop but tbh I think I'd be too embarrassed lol. great video.

I wish i could talk to you. I simply don't understand this position and need more detail (and this isn't to say that you are wrong). From what i see district 9 has a bunch of characters acting in ways that represent their individual interests. It is a common comment that fascism rewards middling men, since they wouldn't have performed to great standards unless the standards were simple and arbitrary and obscure. The protagonist is a middling man thriving under fascism (and granted the opportunity through nepotism). Everything he does is disgustingly lazy, but its directly in line with his cultural perspective and capacity for influence at the time his character experiences these difficulties. Even at the end he isn't a hero, he is simply reduced to a blob of survival without intention or moral interest. His primary goal is to not loose his girlfriend and has no care for the aliens, but isn't even able to understand his participation in his human relationships. Maybe this is being read through the lens of ambiguity, like in American History X. AHX makes unrepresentative leaps in history that result in an dichotomous & ambiguous plot. Since the AHX Nazis don't experience direct push back in their like communities (where historically non-imprisoned punk and skinhead movements for California at the time had very strong anti-nazi influences), there is room for nazi ideas to be considered the only alternative held from any counter culture folk. When there are only two ideas and one is a victor or vindicated then that idea is promoted. When watching AHX if you don't know that nazis are bad then you see a story of a brother killed after distancing himself from a group he has invested emotional and political labor into, then lowering his guard. I would argue that AHX's ambiguity is likely an accidental consequence of simplifying histories, but there was also definitely a decision made to represent the Nazis as idealistically pure and/or sexy at different parts of the story. Mel Brooks talks about how important it is in media to represent nazis as ridiculous because it prevents people from egoistically identifying with them. In particular he voices appreciation for Chaplin when he discusses "The Great Dictator" as an influence of his work. Many others have written about the contradictions in nazi ideology that challenge any notion of purity / consistency once they are observed by reality. (which is also addressed in AHX, but only in an isolated prison story that isn't allowed to effect the rest of the plot) fascism is deeply lazy but through "good" vs "bad" projections is reduced to a position worth considering under the "ends justify the means". The protagonist is an obvious fascist and even his "good" acts feel cowardly. knowing that protagonists are not heros, is this the definition of a bad story?

I feel like the cause for our society’s recently preferred existential mode of horror is a consequence of postmodernism/poststructuralism. Given the critical nature of these two ideologies, our monolithic institutions are, as you put it, “no longer impervious.” This, I feel, is especially felt in the listlessness that characterizes the daily existence of many people in the 21st century. As art imitates life, Elden Ring has shown us a darkened reflection of our reality (cloaked in layers of mythology and esotericism) where we question our erstwhile purpose-giving organizations and the world descends into chaos (as it must from time to time) for a better world to emerge anew.

Me triggered by the woman claiming people in hollywood are being quiet about human trafficking implying they are part of the problem, Angelina Jolie and Ashton Kutcher are both huge spokes people and active in prevention of human trafficking, theyve been that way long before this movie has come out. Where tf where you before this movie came out? Did this one movie make you realise all the really awful sh*t happening in our own backyard? I dont just watch movies, i watch documentaries, i watch interviews and i make sure im educated and up to date with the kinds of things to look out for today, people watch one movie and act like it was the second coming of Jesus. Ive been playing a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 and even in that game theres a deep sense of existentialism and constant need to distract yourself with the environment, technology and drugs that i see throughout the game. They could have made the city a utopia but its actually a dystopia and there is a lot of suffering that happens in that city. The only reason i have an enjoyable time in the city is because im playing a character who is exempt from the reality i would have to face if i lived in that city. I dont think i would live in Night City if i was offered the choice. The fact that there are kids in the game (unlike GTA) really adds to the depressing quality of the game and asking yourself, what we are doing to the younger generations.

Was that line in the anime? Can't remember Armin thanking Eren for going, errm, mass murdery... I saw the last season of AoT sick and severely sleep deprived, and after the last ep. I had the same feeling I had after I saw Full Metal Jacket and Requiem for a Dream. (Not comparing them, calm down..) A mixed feeling of, "That was good, glad I watched it" and "Fuck no, one viewing is enough"... I need to find the book club equivalent of anime shows to find people to talk about these things... 12:13 I'd say it depends on what a writer was planning when they thought of any given line(so in this franchise's case you're likely right). I will say that i don't think a lack of theme is the problem with later movies. Both because bad movies can also have themes, and audiences often times will enjoy a movie with their own theme in mine regardless of if it is what the creative team intended(you even see it in these comments). The main issue seems to be that, like star wars, once they realize they had a potential franchsie on their hand after the first moive they tried to add details and depth to the world inspite of it not really complimenting the more simplistic format that help the first films story. They just did it in far less time.

Although, this would not include Protestant trials which had the higher numbers and the Catholic witch trials were usually held by secular courts.

10:00 That's funny, I listened to the Jurassic Park audiobook the other day and Crichton makes just the most amazingly boneheaded "deep thoughts" thesis statement by a dying Ian Malcom who somehow takes Hammond (whose only characterization has been to just be a rich asshole) and makes him the fucking posterboy for Environmentalism and tells us it is exactly the same arrogance to believe that Environmentalism will "save the world" because ACTUALLY bacteria and stuff will survive and we're fools to think we could "End the World". And I'm looking at the plot of the book and I'm like, 'How the fuck do you even figure?' The author is well and truly dead.

Unpopular Opinion: The Thing, far from being an evil organism, is a creature driven by fear and self-defense. It's not a malicious entity plotting to attack the world, but a vulnerable being desperately trying to survive in a hostile environment. The Thing is living on its home planet. It is kidnapped by spacefaring zoologists who intended to use it as a possible zoo attraction and presumably to experiment on it. It manages to escape the aliens and, in the process, crashes and lands on a hostile, cold planet, potentially lightyears from its home world, and is forced into a frozen hibernation. It was found by different alien (human) scientists who intended to use it as a possible zoo attraction and presumably to experiment with it. It wakes up frightened and tries to escape, and the humans begin to hunt after it, and it tries to defend itself. After the first group, it escapes to another group of humans. It starts to engineer a rudimentary spacecraft to escape this strange, cold world with creatures intent on capturing and/or killing it. The plan to build the craft is foiled. In summary, if the creature was going to consume planet Earth, it would have assimulated the first human, realizing through their memories what the Earth is and how full of prey it is. It would have smartly camouflaged itself into the group, waiting for them to be extracted and return to a higher population with better climates.

Great analysis! I guess Carpenter really held a mirror up to people and at the time they not only couldn't see that but were offended by even being invited to I remember when it came out. There had never been a movie that grotesque before and we just didn't know how to enjoy it at the time. Since then we've become desensitized. Plus even though gore has grown since 82 no one has quite achieved what Carpenter did beyond the effects, which is why we're still discussing it. Strange thing about the open ending: Carpenter ended Halloween on the same anticlimactic note yet that wasn't challenged.
