    3:37:24 There still was a chance to close the city - even though it was highly unlikely: dorito & dagger top right, dagger and starting tile at the bottom. So blocking would’ve been the (imho overly) cautious move. With the actual tile run-out szigfrid even could’ve gotten to a - not immediately blockable - 50:50. Given it was way more probable to free at least one monastery meeple early enough to use it and successfully attack the field(s) or score another monastery, he chose right obviously. (e³’s monastery placement would’ve been interesting in that case …) Thanks for taking that much time to analyze these games that deeply. :)

    Great to see you covering UK vs Ukraine on your channel, which I (naturally) thoroughly enjoyed watching back. I think your thoughts in general on luck, which you touched on at the end of my game, are largely similar to mine - In general, I think people try to oversimplify the narrative of not getting a particular tile. In my deciding game against bazilyuk I was definitely fortunate to draw both the daggers that they needed, and so quickly, but if you've never had a situation of drawing 0/2 of a particular tile then you haven't played much Carcassonne!

    It was no doubt the best play for him to put away these 3 yellows at the beginning. First of all he didn't lose 3 points, he lost 2 points due to him already losing 1 to the starting tile, and second of all, you both needed 1 and 2 yellow in the first 2 lines the round right after, so he would have the 5th line filled for atleast 1 and probably 2 more rounds for a most likely worthless tile.

    Im 'only' around 560 elo in Azul but this game honestly looked messy from both sides. Your opponent made the most easy mistakes with the worst strategy and still came kind of close.

    Thanks for covering UK vs Romania and including my game against Tabado! Whilst I wouldn't say every part of your impression of me was accurate (but still humorous), the bit you did nail was my thought of 'threats threats threats' which was where my gameplan was at here. The position around 1:44:29 is interesting. Sure I have the meeple advantage but if we look at the score im -11 and the most likely next significant feature to be completed is reds diamond city. There's also no great open features to claim. Tabado has got to all of the farms first. Whilst I wouldn't have placed the farmers in quite the way they did, they all very quickly became justified in my opinion. Therefore i think i need to get a chunk of points from somewhere and a good way to do this was to set up a high impact roaded monastery spot for myself. On the next turn Tabado does complete the diamond city as i fear, and so now I'm -17. There's also the worry that they can neutralise this monastery spot by dropping their own farmer where i place my second one. So making the roaded monastery even more high impact doesn't seem bad to me. The second farmer also has a back door route into the farm through the starter tile at the top. I also don't think the game is entirely reduced to 'do i get a roaded monastery or not' (75%) as i do have the two alive cities (to give myself threats x3). These threats unfortunately get extinguished as soon i advance them into a single tile completable state - but they may have proved crucial and another win condition in an alternative tile run out

    31:52 Green scores 4 pts with their last move, red scores 3. If green takes the 6 point field, red could have scored a 5-point road. So in both cases, that's +1 for green. Edit: At 33:32 some of your viewers mentioned this :-)

    2:43:00 It always makes me smile when you’re getting infectiously excited about possible (sometimes even probable) fantastic move sequences - just to be instantly reminded by someone in the chat that the one tile that would be absolutely crucial is already gone. It gets me all the time, because I know you’ll notice it sooner or later when you catch a glimpse of the chat again. There’s always this hint of melancholy in your voice when you do … 😉 Two suggestions for quality of life improvements: 1) It would be really great for further study if you could include links to the tables (in the description). 2) Especially when you have a guest (hi Melvin, hi Bogdan) the webcam feeds tend to cover parts of the board way too easily. In a few of his videos Nallerheim had a portrait mode webcam feed that did just cover the game log and nothing else (e. g. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoGJqamLZ8-0pcY.html). This might be an interesting option for you as well. Thanks a lot for all your videos and streams once again. 🙂

    Hi Alexey, the commentary with your red marks on the board is very helpful to illustrate your point. I found your channel "backwards" via azul and now I'm learning carcassonne. Carcassonne is tough to learn, I usually play most board games well intuitively, but not with this one. Which of your videos are the best to watch for beginners? I'm ~150 rated rn.

    Thanks Alexey. Lapinkoski is actually my favorite ice hockey player. I choose not to try fields in the end, tried just collect as many points as possible. Some mistakes with roads, but Rasdarot mistake with big city was huge.

    At 4:09:20 i meplee the road because if i hadnt done it my opponent would have done it. For me is the typical situation where you must meplee to avoid you opponent do

  • @etownsend17
    @etownsend173 ай бұрын

    If dont meplee that road and my opponent get the road first he must take the 8 point road losing 15 point field. That is better than losing 15 point without compensation if i get the road first.

  • @AlexeysCarcassonneChannel
    @AlexeysCarcassonneChannel3 ай бұрын

    There was only 1 straight line remaining, so your opponent wouldn't take the road because it would be -15+8=-7 move for him. It is therefore better to leave the road unmeepled hoping for the last remaining straight line and keep the meeple for quick points before you draw the straight line.

    Thank you for this coverage! To be honest, I hope they get rid of this time format for official games. We've seen so many players run out of time lately, it's ridiculous. BGA's interface isn't ready for this format yet, it's too easy to lose on time without knowing it. I hope other big tournaments will have the usual 15min or 22.5min per player per game format! Congrats to Brazil, they have a very strong team!
