Ойындар
This video showcases the most spectacular move played in Round 6 of the 2023 World Team Carcassonne Online Championship. The match is Portugal vs Greece, and this is the last move. the urge to complete cities is so real
"With over two minutes on the clock..." Cracked me up 😂😂 Poor greek player, hope he didn't get too devastated!

I was deliberating about it before making this video, but I'm sure they'll take it well.
It’s always nice when your opponent blunders again you, specially in a high stakes game for the World Cup :D But isn’t Green’s monastery move +8+3 for the extra city added to the field? Then Yellow is at -6 not -5 and always loses the game by 1 point

yes! I believe Alexey didn't notice the city being added to the field, me neither! Great catch Glovir!

Oh, missed this extra city indeed, thanks for pointing it out! Also, I didn't show the whole endgame in the video. The penultimate move by yellow was also a blunder - Yellow took a 6-point monastery instead of an 8-point monastery, leaving the 8-point monastery spot for Green, so another 4-point swing. So the sequence of two blunders was, after all, game-deciding.

But the 8-point monastery gives 3 points to yellow, so it's a 5 point move. So playing Devil's advocate, you could say that yellow was hoping to get both monasteries.

@@eliasmochan If Yellow were to get the second monastery, where do they put it? Even as a 5-point move, it's still the best monastery spot on the board! That spot is going to be filled up regardless of who draws the monastery, and the monastery is going to be meepled. Might as well make sure that the meeple on that monastery is guaranteed to be Yellow and not Green.

I was thinking next to your own, but that's also 5 :p
I saw the position and immediately said "oh no". I once made the opposite blunder: I refused to close the opponent's city, even though I would've won the field (but it wasn't the endgame, but still).
I feel somewhat for the Greek player as the move is somewhat understandable at first glance. However the biggest mistake here is rushing the move and not using the time that what available to them to verify the value of the move. Its a bit of a running joke that I am a very slow player but its far better to take a bit more time than make an avoidable blunder! Its also fair to select this as 'Move of the Week' given the ramifications it had on the duel, match and group standings, although as other commenters point out, in isolation it isn't quite as clean cut as entirely game losing, but for a short snappy video to get the point across its fine.
The green would have got 11 points from the last move, 8 from monastery and 3 from field. The yellow has to get 6+ points, and I don't see how.
The monastery joins the field, yellow would lost the field anyway.

The monastery won’t connect the field.
