That must have been the old school way of installing fiber conduit? Because AT&T and XFinity both have been been installing their cables in my neighborhood and they aren't trenching they are using a machine that is pushing the cable with a water jet and the conduits they're burying in the ground are each 3-4 inches in diameter and are on 3000+ft spooled rolls of conduits each conduit has a 6 or 7 smaller 1/4 to 1/2 inch bundles inside them and at the end of each spool run they are installing distribution node boxes then running the individual residential supplies from those node boxes. In the amount of time it took them to dig up those streets and clean up the mess the crew that's been running around my neighborhood what's already done and on to the next area.

Good thing ISP's got BILLIONS in taxpayer money in 2012 and then spent none of it on installing the fiber it was meant for.

Watched the contractor on our street. Cut a trench in the soil for the single fibre, deep enough to be protected. But the coil of conduit wants to curl up and down in the trench. They are too lazy to weigh down the curl with a couple of little egg size rocks before backfill, and instead backfill with material that goes down past the conduit, leaving the conduit a couple of inches from the surface! No one will know until some wants to plant a flower in that spot! Every home on the street like this!

What kind of archaic method is that? In the US? LOL… in Europe we got fiber installed with just one machine that dig and place the fiber automatically, without the intervention of workers. I know it because they did right in my front yard and I saw them and talked with them when they did… a month later I had my 2Gbps internet. It just looks like the US isn’t living in the current century of automated machinery…

PS: Oh, btw, I’m upgrading to a new 8Gbps ISP… just because I can and it’s the same price (around 40 bucks a month).

Now I get it, why people buy starlink in US, I have a $6 (₹500) per month fiber connection with 200mbps and unlimited data since 2019. No problems since 2019. Why do US people make stuff complicated as hell and then say the cost of technology is 1000 times of actual cost.

Thats weird, they use directional boring where I am. I have never seen them directly trenching the road like that. It seems like it would be harder to protect them against backhoes and ofher work crews by trenching the road.
