Making a homemade rotary welding positioner .5 to 2.8 RPM
Ғылым және технология
I worked on this off and on over a couple weeks. The gear reducer needed a little work but otherwise works fine. The positioner certainly has plenty of torque, probably way more than I need. I had trouble finding a gearbox that had a large enough reduction to rotate the chuck slow enough. I already had a VFD and 1/3 hp motor so the reducer was all I needed to finish the project.

Good job! It's a hell of lot better than doing by hand, food for thought
Awesome job.
Very good friend
smart man! very interesting
Good job. You can test the hardness of material with a file.
Great Build and Video!! Thanks !! Liked !! 3 starting threads gives you more torque? right? so it was built into the total drive torque of the gear reduction box?

yeah I think more starts equals more torque
think you can get away wirh hanging a bare copper wire over the axle between the gearbox and the chuck and hang the groundclamp on that , as long as it doesnt snag on the bolts holding the chuck
nice, can we see some more of it please mate

That probably came off an old stoker coal furnace. Nice job.

yeah probably
I want that gear box
Reverse your direction, You need to be going downhill with MIG. You are going the correct way for right handed TIG though. Cool stuff.

L.A. Scott and that's bollocks. downhill is nicer looking weld but uphill weave is stronger. and if the drawing states uphill that's what you got to do. it's just his technique and settings that's letting him down. not direction necessarily
Almost everything going good until minute 13:27, I think you’re so sharp, why not maje a gasket?, and void use silicon wtf, ?!,
