Welding with an Oculus!
I made a longer video here of the welding camera, hopefully this provides more information about how it all works. I reached out to @cavitar_ltd and requested a demo unit so they lent me one ! The unit I’m working with is C300.. It’s been interesting working with it and looking at my welds up close without UV light💥 it’s a great learning tool. For fun, I threw on an Oculus Quest 2 and used Virtual Desktop to send the video feed from the Cavitar software on the computer to the Oculus. I didn’t notice any video lag with this scheme. I tried an Oculus Rift but my graphics card was too slow.. I also tried the DJI RE goggles but the HDMI port would not accept an incoming video signal??? 🤷🏻♂️ I wore a fabric head sock while I was welding with the Oculus to protect from UV rays.. I removed it so I could talk in the video. I made a shorter video here: / cmocynrpb07

That was an excellent explanation of the Cavitar Welding Camera C300 and a really nice demo... Thank you for sharing this. I look forward to seeing more footage from you :)
I’m absolutely fascinated with this camera. I have no idea what they cost but for some reason I think they’re probably outside the budget for a content creator. But I could be wrong.
My biggest issue watching an instructor welding is that I really need to be within about 12in to have any idea what they are doing.

Exactly, its quite a teaching tool..
Have you tried to weld just using the normal pass thru cameras on a mixed reality helmet like a metaquest 2 or 3 - i find the auto darkening visors are helpful but maybe a pass thru camera could be good too.

I can't wait till someone makes a welding helmet with a occulos and this Camara attached

It was already done about 10 yrs ago. I am surprised there isn't a commercial solution with all these smartphones with multiple cameras more than capable of doing very good HDR.
Oculus mounted with auto focus - perfect! I desperately need this since my eyesight thru tinted welding masks is not as good as it used to be.

How about the HDR welding helmet? Doesn't the oculus gave two cameras?
Haha. I just realized that I’ve been following you on Insta and TikTok and you’re on Assembly Required. You make the 5th person I know on the show. Well, your the only one I haven’t hung out with, but I knew you before. They’ve contacted me twice. Would you do the show again?

I would absolutely do it again! It was a blast ..
Cover your face or you gunna get a burn, i think its very interesting and a really cool idea but you gotta shield yourself from the light - also the oculus works off of infrared cameras, so the weld may destroy the cameras too - not sure, probably best to shield all of it really neat idea though, one of my biggest problems with welding is not being able to see - this experiment you did could lead to a much better welding experience system
