Finally a solution to the issue I've had with my beloved QS Twin 1Ghz. Many thanks. Now I need to look around for sorting an issue with one of my Blue & White G3 that starts "occasionally" but runs faultlessly when it does.
I am glad this video helped you out. Your PowerMac G3 blue/white issue is most likely a power supply fault. I had a similar issue with another PowerMac G4 QuickSilver where you had to have it plugged in for 30-40mins, then it would start. Once it was started it would work OK. This is more than likely a capacitor failure (or gradual failure) and probably require a recap or a complete power supply replacement.
@@aa-au Almost certainly. A visual inspection of the B&W G3 shows nothing obvious. Leaving it powered on in a non-booted state for c.5-10mins seems to do the trick.
I could wear cargo pants and still not have enough pockets for all of those !
That's only 9x iPods. Wait until you see me open a box (or more) full of iPhones... and iPads...
Really substantial upgrade, along with the contemporary OS. Makes a 11 years old machine completely usable today.
When I say 3 easy upgrades, they are easier than the 2 major hardware upgrades that are available for this Mac Pro. The Sonoma upgrade makes it worth using in the 2020s.
Holy cow, even the clock battery in that thing still worked. They'll automatically boot upon receiving power if the PRAM battery has gone bad, yours didn't.
Well... to be fair... I did plug it in and it started straight away. I didn't have it in shot very well, so I shut it down, repositioned the PowerBook and the camera, then started it up again. That may give some light to your amazement.
@@aa-au ahhhh, makes sense.
Prince of Persia looks beautiful, but that passive display ruins the animation totally.
Love playing Prince Of Persia, and I agree with the display. In a future video, I may change the display to an active display. I'll perform a big mod upgrade or something.
It’s always a good sign when the bag is so clean. Nice find.
That's what I thought at the start. Nice bag, then clean PowerBook, then all documentation, then the stickers!
Love your videos Nick, keep them coming.
Thank you for your kind comment. I'll try and produce what I can, when I can, with a bit of a mix. More coming soon.
Nice iMacs Nick I Have the Ruby 450m FlowerPower 600m Dalmatian 600m
Nice collection Dave. The Ruby is from the Summer 2000 series, and the Flower Power and Blue Dalmatian is from the Early 2001 series. I have a spare Sage DV+ 450Mhz, so do you want to swap for the Blue Dalmatian?

The disassembly and reassembly was of great help, thanks for your time on this.
I'm glad it was of help to you. I will try and create more videos where I disassemble and/or repair, then reassemble various Apple and non-Apple equipment.
Does Mac #1 have different internals? Why is it Indigo with a red loading screen
It didn't matter which color you chose for the outside shell, any of those macs could use and display different color loading screens. It was all done in the appearance extension in the control panel. While some may have originally loaded the same color theme as the outer shell that may have been set as a factory default. Back in those days with system 8.0 and I believe up til 9.1 you could make changes to the appearance and color schemes.
They all have different internals as they have different CPUs ie: they all have different logic boards. The Indigo would have had a blue/indigo startup screen and a blue/indigo desktop as a standard install, but the last user changed it to suit their needs.
Nice background music. Happy Marchintosh - great tshirt
I seem to like this easy listening music in the background so you can hear it in quite a few of my videos. The T-shirt was bought in the Apple store in Cupertino, next to the Apple mothership.
We had these in the computer lab when I was in school! What a trip down memory lane...
The Indigo iMac was the lowest end of iMacs which span 2 years, where common in schools. Also, the original Bondi Blue and Blueberry variants of all iMacs were also used in schools and corporate environments, thus these blue coloured iMacs are so common on the used or second hand markets.
I just find out your channel and I just love it,I still have all my Macs collection, from Performa ,Power Mac G3,G4,G5,Mac Pro 12 cores 2012,Mac Pro 2013 12 cores,iMac Pro 2018 27",Mac Pro 2019 Mac Studio M2 Max and lately 2021 MacBook Pro 16"

I just found your channel, nice video! With my collection I’ve replaced all those noisy hard drives with 40 GB WD drives,I’ve also repaired the optical drives where necessary I now have 26 in my collection plus 3 boxed ones.
Thank you for your comments. I used to buy and sell a lot of iMacs. Now just collecting the good ones and I will eventually offload the duplicates. The noisy hard drive squeal adds the original character to the machine, but I will eventually replace with other hard drives or an SSD.
So you simply unplug the superdrive? Yours was loose I guess.
Yes, you unplug the SuperDrive. An error on filming, as I had already unplugged it in a previous shot.
@@aa-au thanks. But I got stuck after that. I don't have a small enough tool to use on those torx 10 screws
Hope you do this every week? What does the shirt say?
That is the plan, one short video every week, or so. The shirt is in binary, and you have to work it out.
Damage to the logic board doesn’t look so bad honestly, it’s probably repairable if you wanted to put in the time to do it.
Thank you for your comment. During the editing process and upon closer inspection, the logic board looks repairable as only the corner with the battery holder looks 'OK'. A follow up video will show a restore of this Quadra 700.
It's like when I left the Wiimote sit in the cupboard for a year, acidic disaster. Glad we don't have to deal with AAs as much any more!

Thanks for watching! I think I may be able to revive this Mac, as on closer inspection during editing it all happened in one spot, which can possibly be repaired. I can't say too much about the floppy drive though...
I have this exact Mac! Graphite as well, very nice little machine. I have OS X 10.4.11 + OS 9.1 dual booted. Great video!
Thanks for your comment. The Mac OS combo you have is ideal, although you can bump OS 9.1 up to 9.2.1 with no issues.
@@aa-au I always considered that, is 9.2 any better? It flies on my Graphite as it has 768MB of RAM. By the way, I'm also Australian! Greetings from Tasmania 😄
I can't remember the differences between 9.1 and 9.2.1 - you may have to look up the differences. Greetings from Melbourne Australia!
I want power supply for my mac pro 2012 mid ... Please help me where i will get new or repair my power supply
Please contact us via the About section of our KZread page, and we will try and help you the best we can.
How can I know if it’s the power supply that is failing. My computer restarts randomly, i cant see to find the issue. Great video by the way
Thank you for your comment. The computer restarting randomly could mean anything, especially the frequency of restarting. It could mean any of the following (and usually in this order): 1) Faulty or corrupt software - backup your software, format hard drive or SSD and install a fresh MacOS; or 2) a faulty hard drive or SSD - backup your software, install and format a new hard drive or SSD, and install a fresh MacOS; or 3) a faulty backplane/logic board, or 4) a faulty power supply, or 5) a faulty CPU board (or a combination of these, but unlikely.) Try option 1 and/or option 2 and see if this makes a a difference. Options 3/4/5 are more difficult to diagnose and you have to replace expensive hardware.
I have had same issues. Most times fixed it for my by blasting of all dust with compressed air spray bottle and a paint brush to brush it off. Yet since last week's this doesn't seem to work no more. Was hoping perhaps dusting out power supply would help
@@RomboutVersluijsI ended up replacing all parts. Long story short, it was the daughter board. It had some bent pins from removing and installing the ram. Check your pins or replace daughter board.
@@ktangut what do you mean by daughter board? I know the term donor-board, but not daughter board. Edit Googled it, I thought it was one main logicboard.
@@RomboutVersluijsIn the case of the Mac Pro, the daughter board usually means the CPU tray or the large tray that slides in and out at the bottom. This CPU tray contains either 1x CPU, a large heatsink and 4x memory slots (for single processor CPU trays) or 2x CPUs, 2x smaller heatsinks and 8x memory slots (for dual processor CPU trays.) The memory can be populated in any of the slots, but not some of the slots. I will have to release another video regarding memory in these slots.

Hi. Can you advise what is the issue when we hear a buzzing sound from the Mac Pro PSU? Is it failing?
Thank you for your comment. Make sure you can isolate that the buzzing sound is coming from the PSU area. Remove the SuperDrive optical caddy and determine if the fan that sits in front of the PSU is spinning. If the fan is not spinning then you have to replace the whole case as this fan is almost impossible to replace. WARNING Perform the next step at your own caution. If the fan is spinning, then you can temporarily place a small plastic tool gently inside the fan to stop it from spinning. If the buzzing is still coming from the power supply then there is a component that may be loose and is vibrating, or a component may be failing, so you will have to replace the PSU. Unfortunately, at this stage we do not repair the PSUs but can provide a replacement.
Thanks for video mate .Good to hear an Aussie accent :)...Can we buy parts from you ?...I have a 3,1 with faulty PSU. Cheers
Thank you for your kind comment. You can contact us through the About section of our main KZread page, and we can quote you pricing and availability of any PSU of any Mac Pro.

Thank you for your question. When the Mac Pro turns on then switches off, it is most likely going to be the main logic board or backplane board (motherboard.)
Or can I buy one from you refurbished? Because they don't sell that anywhere near me.
Yes, we can sell you one. Contact us in the About section of KZread.

Thanks Dave. I did ask for some foam on the bottom and for it to be well packed, but alas, when paying $20 for shipping between 2 major cities in Australia, this was the best I got!
They should have used an inner box too.
Thanks Eric. The inner box is just a fantasy when only paying $20 for shipping between 2 major cities in Australia, so this was the best I got!
Another great unboxing!

Great content, subscribed! What’s the point of changing the date on the machines?
Thank you for your support! Setting the date and time keeps some system changes such as video resolution and network settings, and obviously the date and time. A good battery will keep all those settings. A flat or dead battery will lose these settings and you would have to reset them every time you started. It may keep these settings if it was permanently in, and this is dependant on what Mac it is (they varied.)
Congrats for 100
Thank you. Onto 1000 subs!

Hi!, Great video thanks for sharing, I have also the same unit that you've used to test the power supply that you demonstrate, coincidentally I was looking for a video that can help me to repair my mac pro 2009 4, 1 because it did not start when I press the power button. But when I plug it in the outlet there is a blink of small red light near the 220 number, Can I ask for a help how to fix it? and is it mean that my power supply is already busted? should I replace the power supply? Thanks in advance, hope you can help me.
Thank you for your comment. The red light just means that there is a surge of power that goes through to the logic board. It could mean any of the following (and usually in this order): 1) a faulty power supply, or 2) a faulty backplane/logic board, or 3) a faulty CPU board (or a combination of these, but unlikely.) Try disconnecting the power cord for 24hrs. Reconnect and try again. If you don't get power then it would normally be the power supply; or rare occasions it is the CPU board. If it turns on then the backplane/logic board is usually intermittent and will progressively get worse ie: not be able to to turn on at all, or turn on and just the fans spinning.
Love the toilet paper animations
Those toilet rolls took a long time to animate - not bad for first time animation.
Nice t shirt.
Thanks!
Great video! Unfortunately my blueberry G3 has the same CRT image issue where the image shifts when a window is opened. I’m dreading having to recap it. Also, there was a faster G3 - the 900MHz iBook G3 was the fastest Apple ever put in a computer.
The iMac G3s were notorious for this CRT flicker or 'tick' - Tick Of Death, as I like to call it. I also don't think a recap will resolve the problem, as it could be the flyback transformer that could be the issue. The 700Mhz is the fastest G3 in an iMac, and you are correct with the iBook G3 having a faster G3 at 900Mhz.
@@aa-au aww crap. Mine doesn’t have any flicker or picture issues, just the shifting image. Mine’s a super high-hour system though, original HDD has some 28,000 hours. So it isn’t just caps?
If the picture has just shifted to the left or right, and does not flicker, then you may be able to adjust the CRT with an alignment tool. If it has moved and you cannot adjust it, then it may be a recapping of the analogue board. As you can see the cost of these iMacs purchased in 2007 and 2012, it was not worth recapping or repairing anything. It was quicker to swap components and dump the faulty iMac. Maybe one of the recapping guys on KZread may be able to recap an iMac one day.

Toasty G5s... Do you still use one as a daily machine?
Unfortunately I do not use one as a daily machine, as it can only go up to OS X 10.5.8, and a lot of websites require a minimum of OS X 10.13.6. I did use a PowerMac G5 for about 4-5 years.
I still have one in the workshop that is used for non net stuff, and running Nascar, which is what it is good at, with a MOMO FF wheel and pedals. Just needs new video card.
