I just found your channel, nice video! With my collection I’ve replaced all those noisy hard drives with 40 GB WD drives,I’ve also repaired the optical drives where necessary I now have 26 in my collection plus 3 boxed ones.

Thank you for your comments. I used to buy and sell a lot of iMacs. Now just collecting the good ones and I will eventually offload the duplicates. The noisy hard drive squeal adds the original character to the machine, but I will eventually replace with other hard drives or an SSD.

Great video! Unfortunately my blueberry G3 has the same CRT image issue where the image shifts when a window is opened. I’m dreading having to recap it. Also, there was a faster G3 - the 900MHz iBook G3 was the fastest Apple ever put in a computer.

The iMac G3s were notorious for this CRT flicker or 'tick' - Tick Of Death, as I like to call it. I also don't think a recap will resolve the problem, as it could be the flyback transformer that could be the issue. The 700Mhz is the fastest G3 in an iMac, and you are correct with the iBook G3 having a faster G3 at 900Mhz.

@@aa-au aww crap. Mine doesn’t have any flicker or picture issues, just the shifting image. Mine’s a super high-hour system though, original HDD has some 28,000 hours. So it isn’t just caps?

If the picture has just shifted to the left or right, and does not flicker, then you may be able to adjust the CRT with an alignment tool. If it has moved and you cannot adjust it, then it may be a recapping of the analogue board. As you can see the cost of these iMacs purchased in 2007 and 2012, it was not worth recapping or repairing anything. It was quicker to swap components and dump the faulty iMac. Maybe one of the recapping guys on KZread may be able to recap an iMac one day.

Thank you for your support! Setting the date and time keeps some system changes such as video resolution and network settings, and obviously the date and time. A good battery will keep all those settings. A flat or dead battery will lose these settings and you would have to reset them every time you started. It may keep these settings if it was permanently in, and this is dependant on what Mac it is (they varied.)
