    Hi!, Great video thanks for sharing, I have also the same unit that you've used to test the power supply that you demonstrate, coincidentally I was looking for a video that can help me to repair my mac pro 2009 4, 1 because it did not start when I press the power button. But when I plug it in the outlet there is a blink of small red light near the 220 number, Can I ask for a help how to fix it? and is it mean that my power supply is already busted? should I replace the power supply? Thanks in advance, hope you can help me.

  • @aa-au

    @aa-au

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment. The red light just means that there is a surge of power that goes through to the logic board. It could mean any of the following (and usually in this order): 1) a faulty power supply, or 2) a faulty backplane/logic board, or 3) a faulty CPU board (or a combination of these, but unlikely.) Try disconnecting the power cord for 24hrs. Reconnect and try again. If you don't get power then it would normally be the power supply; or rare occasions it is the CPU board. If it turns on then the backplane/logic board is usually intermittent and will progressively get worse ie: not be able to to turn on at all, or turn on and just the fans spinning.

    Hi. Can you advise what is the issue when we hear a buzzing sound from the Mac Pro PSU? Is it failing?

  • @aa-au

    @aa-au

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment. Make sure you can isolate that the buzzing sound is coming from the PSU area. Remove the SuperDrive optical caddy and determine if the fan that sits in front of the PSU is spinning. If the fan is not spinning then you have to replace the whole case as this fan is almost impossible to replace. WARNING Perform the next step at your own caution. If the fan is spinning, then you can temporarily place a small plastic tool gently inside the fan to stop it from spinning. If the buzzing is still coming from the power supply then there is a component that may be loose and is vibrating, or a component may be failing, so you will have to replace the PSU. Unfortunately, at this stage we do not repair the PSUs but can provide a replacement.

    How can I know if it’s the power supply that is failing. My computer restarts randomly, i cant see to find the issue. Great video by the way

  • @aa-au

    @aa-au

    10 ай бұрын

    Thank you for your comment. The computer restarting randomly could mean anything, especially the frequency of restarting. It could mean any of the following (and usually in this order): 1) Faulty or corrupt software - backup your software, format hard drive or SSD and install a fresh MacOS; or 2) a faulty hard drive or SSD - backup your software, install and format a new hard drive or SSD, and install a fresh MacOS; or 3) a faulty backplane/logic board, or 4) a faulty power supply, or 5) a faulty CPU board (or a combination of these, but unlikely.) Try option 1 and/or option 2 and see if this makes a a difference. Options 3/4/5 are more difficult to diagnose and you have to replace expensive hardware.

    I have had same issues. Most times fixed it for my by blasting of all dust with compressed air spray bottle and a paint brush to brush it off. Yet since last week's this doesn't seem to work no more. Was hoping perhaps dusting out power supply would help

    @@RomboutVersluijsI ended up replacing all parts. Long story short, it was the daughter board. It had some bent pins from removing and installing the ram. Check your pins or replace daughter board.

    @@ktangut what do you mean by daughter board? I know the term donor-board, but not daughter board. Edit Googled it, I thought it was one main logicboard.

  • @aa-au

    @aa-au

    7 ай бұрын

    @@RomboutVersluijsIn the case of the Mac Pro, the daughter board usually means the CPU tray or the large tray that slides in and out at the bottom. This CPU tray contains either 1x CPU, a large heatsink and 4x memory slots (for single processor CPU trays) or 2x CPUs, 2x smaller heatsinks and 8x memory slots (for dual processor CPU trays.) The memory can be populated in any of the slots, but not some of the slots. I will have to release another video regarding memory in these slots.

    Thank you for your question. When the Mac Pro turns on then switches off, it is most likely going to be the main logic board or backplane board (motherboard.)
