I help people Grow with Amateur Radio
Hi, my name is Jason, callsign KC5HWB, and I've created this channel to talk about everything that is new in Ham Radio. I review new radios, new products and new modes for the modern ham operator.
I have been a licensed ham radio operator since 1994 and I enjoy teaching others about the hobby and showing how fun it can be.
73 and thanks for watching.

I'm going to be real, even though I have a radio that can do it I can't be asked to get my license and as such it doesn't get used...
What about thr ic 7610
I have a Rak4631 (Sanyo 18650 battery) that I built out as a Solar charged device on the roof of the parking garage... It's been running for over a month now. I can remotely admin into the device. I use my T-Deck for that purpose. I also have a WizMesh pocket! It has a 3200 mah battery (pillow style). It came as a complete package! I am close enough to the airport that I pickup folks flying by and messaging me! The Rak4631 build I did has the best distance. I am getting a consistent 19 miles and even hit a 263 miles device at one point. Pretty crazy distance since it has zero hops! I think you need to decide your strategy and then make a decision. I have learned a lot over the last several months on pro's and con's. It is one thing to watch a video... it is another to do the build and have it operational or simply buy the completed package and start using it. It definitely is growing in the area as well as around the US. I suggest you explore the opportunity to expand with your local Amateur Radio Club! They might already have a strategy or you can help them start one!
I think you are right about the cell phones and the older generation of people. Young people do not talk at all, they text all the time. Talking to people is considered faux pas. Also, the population change in the major cities plays some role. The newcomers are more concentrated on surviving in the new environment and do not have time, income, education, skills to get into the hobby.
They blocked me too, lol
I've heard the risk of Yaesus and Icoms on EBAY is that some come from Japan and have a different band plan loaded that cant be hacked around. Maybe a future video on such unexpected traps in radio shopping?
I rather buy American or Japanese, my wife buys Chinese! Most of it brakes. I’m used to the old stuff like radios, cars and so forth. BTW I’m 70 years old so I’m into quality, most aren’t.
“That’s cheating” 😂😂😂 73 W5GFY
You see the Nokia PoC radios advertised everywhere all over all social medias and youtube as well as on Ads When using Google search @Ham Radio 2.0
“Anybody out there? Anybody at allllll?”
I'm suprised Yaesu had A PoC Radio Offering Interesting for sure @Ham Radio 2.0
I would definitely be interested in a Radio if it does amateur band and GMRS band that would be awesome and i would be interested in it if it has PoC Capabilities the Wouxun KG-V98 looks like a nice radio Also 10:30 @Ham Radio 2.0
I agree the marketing tactics are questionable and very unethical 6:30 @Ham Radio 2.0
I just bought a Jeep Wrangler JL 2 months ago. why can't a manufacture come out with a board for the android device that comes with the jeep so that way I can take out the Sirus XFM board and replace it with a dual band VHF/UHF with DMR plus APRS+GPS, in addition a hand mic... I know for a fact I am not going to use the XFM...plus side note I would like to add a forward camera and loop record in case I get into an accident.
or replace that XFM board with a FRS, GMRS, board with TX/RX. or replace it with a cb radio board, or with a scanner board ect
PoC is Common ON Cells Phones These days also You can pay your cell phone provider to have the poc access on your phone and use the side button on your phone to make push to talk Over cellular calls like a walki talky Verizon being offering thst feature for over 8 years or more now. I agree its not unlimited range it's just marketing gimmick for these radios that do poc they also say it's free forever and that's crap you have to pay for the Sim Card @Ham Radio 2.0
Subscribed because you went down the rabbit hole for me. Thanks!!!👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Man, I *REALLY* want this antenna! I’m not even setup with a radio yet (only became an Amateur Extra a week ago!). Maybe this will give me many opportunities, perhaps at my apartment or at my nearby park. ❤ KF0QNM
We loose MFJ and get back RadioShack....What some times....
If I saw a need for it then maybe, But I have not been given a good reason why I need this new tech. Thanks for the report and 73
Great timing. I recently purchased 2 of the Hel-tec and 4 pillow batteries. Just arrived today, and I have no clue what I'm doing 😂
Enjoy!
A note about BT and Wifi, these little low power chips probably don't have the "grunt" to run interpretation of RX/TX 2.4GHz signals through two different methods simultaneously.
The value of this was deceased by no defininition what a meshtastic device is!!!
Again, like I said on other comments... that was done already. I don't start from step 1 on every video. If you really wanted to know about Meshtastic, or any other topic, the information is right on this channel and not hard to find. kzread.info/head/PLs_Ab58w9LI8J5xJDYXdWJCbVKIxM0Yvc&si=Lrlax-w3hFpXuSx0
Just take a travel size mouth wash bottles, fill it with liquor of choice (may have to add a touch of food coloring), reseal plastic with lighter or heat gun, and stick in your bag. No one with be none the wiser.😉
anything with the 1262 chipset, primary RAK devices, and the T-echo. They're 3-4 times more efficient than the t-beam and Helltec devices with the ESP32.
That was great. Meshtastic would be great in NY after what we went threw yesterday. That Hurricane that came threw Texas left a path of destruction threw many states threw Boston NY where I am out. Not only did grid go down many hours the internet and cell towers went out as well for a while. Meshtastic is great that does not need cell or internet to work once set up. NY on national news . Ham radio working well 70 CM repeaters staying up helping NOAA collect damage reports threw Skywarn . The NOAA people in my area are really great . collecting data as I type this from the lest over Hurricane. And the NOAA weather alerts where spot on. only had minor injury's . pay attention to NOAA weather alerts. It does save lives ! We can sent them alerts thru mashtastic as well . Millions still with out power in the path of the storm. Keep them batteries handy and charged ! Anyone can get into Meshtastic ! 73
cell phones
Wrong
Nodes up a tower should be controlled from another node via the admin channel. No need for BT or WiFi up a tower then you can control the device remotely on the mesh.
was gonna say my T-Beam came with the screen attached. Through Amazon but it really came from China direct.
Some do, some don't
I have a lot of the same units you have. The T-Deck and the T-Beam Supreme are the better ones I like. The heltic V3 is probably the best place to start. Low entry and you can add a GPS to it for less than $20.00. Still looking at all that is going to. There are guys working on the user interface on the T-Deck to make it more user friendly. I can't wait to see what they come up with. 73
Those Heltec V3 devices would be great to find in a Mystery Box!
Yep
This is definitely intriguing. For a dude thats never heard of this before hpw would you go about startong this?
Hey, BE VERY CARFUL installing the gps on the T-DECK. Ask me how I knw?
How do you know???
The TBeam also has a 433 model. That is if you're looking at a TinyGS setup.
best newbie meshtastic device is the only commercial ready one with gps from heltec which is the v3 capsule. anything else is not beginners devices.
I see ads for Rapid Radios on Facebook ALL THE TIME and their claims are always very misleading so I make it a point to report every ad I see as "misleading/scam." It's really unfortunate because the vast majority of comments on their ads show that the people buying these radios truly don't understand how they work and they're getting pulled in by the misleading claims or because it's not being made 100% clear that the radios use cellular networks. Extremely frustrating to see companies taking advantage of peoples' ignorance.
No net goes 24/7 they're just lying.
I wish I would have watched this before I bought my 3 Rapid Radios!!!
The take on HF and FT8 is interesting... cuz I find everything above 30 MHz boring and pointless. I sold my Yaesu HT when I got my Baofeng HT, and then I gave the Baofeng away to a friend who needed radios for a cross-country moving caravan. Now they live thousands of miles away where we can talk for 5W on HF.
Is there a recommend hdmi interface cable for this radio. I don’t want to risk any damage but keen to use my monitor which only accepts hdmi
Just placed an order for a UV9D Plus 10W version, which at this point looks like it's identical in specs to the Mate, just in black instead of orange.
Hey Jason.. I love the reviews you give on the radios, very very infomative. Thank you very much for all your reviews!! My handle is Sudhakar & Call Sign is VU3LLC, QTH Bangalore - India. I was thinking about buying Baofeng UV 25. My thought is that, since my activies on UHF / VHF would be limited, can this radio be a replacement for a basestation? Or is it still worth to buy a UHF/VHF Basestation? Most of my activities would be on HF, So that I am thinking of investing on a good HF transceiver. What do you suggest?
I think a radio that's made to be a base station would give you better receive capabilities and more power output
@@HamRadio2 Thank you Jason for that quick response!
Do these radios have a FCC ID ? thank you
Hi Love the videos....Do these radios have a FCC ID???
I wouldn't like to know what Radio is the best for off grid for a real emergency
kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpV_k5SvndLHhLQ.html
I love this radios because they work great for my business,
There is apps on your phone that will do PTT for free
Yes
Explain to me like I'm five why I would want to get started in HAM radio please. I want to be interested but I don't understand why I should.
It's the most powerful form of off-grid communication

Pro tip when dealing with neighbours. If they seem inteligent and friendly enough, sure talk to them show them your stuff and answer their question. But if they seem stupid and with an agressive attitude, don't bother explaining stuff. Just't don't. The more arguments and technological explanations youngive the more offensive they become, because they will become defensive. If you have that kind of shitty neighbour that is straight out adversorial about your radio equipment reffer them to the FCC or whatever your regulatory body is in your country and END THE CONVERSATION THERE. DO NOT ARGUE WITH STUPID PEOPLE... IT IS A POINTLESS ACT OF INSANITY ON YOUR PART! However, if you live in a HOA and you did not secure a permission for your antennas... You have my sympathies friendm.. There is nothing that you can do about it... You signed off your property rights when you accepted that HOA. YOU... HAVE... NO... RIGHTS.
People don’t understand what it is! And the facebook ads for these pocs lie! They say if cellphone towers are down they will be up. It’s all a lie!
