You mentioned before that Mikko has a high tolerance for pain but brushing her hair brings some sort of discomfort. Try to limit the number of times you pull at her hair and stroke it. Once it is detangle move to the next step and finish as quickly as possible. To wash her hair, make a pallet on the kitchen counter and put a pillow under her knees. Washing her hair this way is making her anxious with water splashing down her back. She is now cold and wet. Grabbing her is causing her even more stress when she is trying to escaped her discomfort. She needs to be made comfy and kept dry. Other kids might find that little tub fun, but if someone took me to the hair salon, and my hair was to be washed this way, I would not at all be happy. Knowing her anxiety I would not continue to pull and stretch her hair. Her hair looks beautiful but so long sitting and all the pulling and painful detangling is only making her more upset and anxious. I would say maybe you could limit the number of braids and the amount of time doing her hair.

Thank YOU for sharing your experiences about Mikko with us! You have opened up a whole new world for those who are on the spectrum bridging an understanding AND empathy for those who have no frame of reference hopefully fostering positive dialogue. Your patience and dedication to our Sweet and Adorable Mikko will always be a teachable moment for others. I have ADHD but I graduated from San Diego State in 2015 with a degree in communication and rhetorical studies. My GPA was 3.41 and am now inspired to go to law school by a guy with ADHD who graduated and is now a licensed attorney! Mikko is SO BLESSED to have a Mom like YOU!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Baby is such a Daddy’s girl!!!❤🎉🎉🎉. Please don’t let them associate or place too many deficiencies on her, i.e., low muscles tone. Doing so allows them to treat for unnecessary trials, medications and modalities. Her large and small motor skillls seem to work very well. When we incorporate these ‘dignosis it also has us to believe our children with autism cannot do things that they really can. I watched as Baby watched you put her shoes on and she was really paying attention. This tells me that given a real opportunity she can put her own shoes on unassisted. But as long as we buy into the shortcomings we will limit their opportunities to flourish and reach milestones that others say are unattainable or delayed. I bet she can push the shopping cart at the grocery store, put, scan items and pay! Give it a try! I BELIEVE SHE CAN!!!!

This is so beautiful.. this mom sees her daughter and her needs. She doesn’t push her to do something she clearly isn’t yet ready to do.. and the patience and commitment to prioritizing this beautiful child’s feelings of safety is truly touching and brought me to tears! I wish there were more of this in world. It isn’t about following society’s expectations, it’s about individuality and how every person deserves the space and freedom to explore their own potential at the level they are comfortable with. This baby girl will shine to her potential because of this amazing momma ensuring she has that right; and people need awareness that pushing someone in this situation would have the complete opposite and detrimental consequence of regressing her progress in making sense of how she will adapt to the world and to life in general.. this short example speaks loud and is so powerful with great potential to raise awareness and educate others of what is possible when you don’t try to put everyone in a box or a category. One size does not fit all!
