My daughter (who is autistic) has similar hair and she hates wash day and detangling. When she was younger she had the same reactions and would just cry and cry. I found that she cried less when I took smaller sections and could manage more how bad the pulling was on her scalp. She’s 11 now and although she still gets upset about hair day she’s able to sit more and handle more styles. This video made me realize how far she’s come. 🙂

You're so good with accommodating her without giving into her every whim. It's so important! She's learning that you'll always make her safe, but she can't just be fresh & disrespectful. I love watching you navigate that part because a lot of parents don't do that & it shows!!

Honestly I never saw this until I watched the videos and it was great to see especially being a mam with an autistic child, I felt bad not giving in to her meltdowns and cries and wanted a way to navigate around them. This was perfect 👏

@Moonlightshealings222 Trust you don't want your son growing up to be rude. Sadly I know a guy whose on the spectrum around the same as Mikko, but he knows better and doesn't. Mental disability isn't an excuse to let things go or give in. You're doing great!

I remember these times with my mom. I remember when the water would touch my scalp; I would feel like I was drowning. It was all mental. However, I would gasp for air and have panic attacks. I was eventually able to go to a salon once a month and sit in one of those chairs. I don't remember having any panic attacks after that. However, at that age, my sensory issues were so out of control. Anything would scare me-wind blowing, loud noises, etc. It took a team of family members encouraging and helping my mom with my hair. I eventually was able to take some control and wash it myself but I was well into my teenage years. I think, I stopped the salon around 16 or 17. I was at that age where I wanted a more adult style, so I took over and learned how to perm, etc...As of today, I'm chemical free, but I rarely allow anyone to touch my hair. It's still a very big sensory issue for me. Please continue to give her the language and speech therapy. It WILL HELP sooooo much!!

Mikko and I have similar textures. The individual stands are fine but the density is great. I use the same first two brushes for the exact reason you stated. The unbrush doesn’t get down to the root if my hair is very tangled but it’s great for in-betweens and smoothing the hair. Mikko is beautiful and you are doing a wonderful job raising her. As a woman in her 30’s without kids yet, you are an inspiration to watch.

Hi my daughter, now 34, is blind and autistic, hair washing was always a major issue.Miko is doing so well and so are you! When we went through a phase of it being what we used to call a screamable offense we were recommended to use hair washing caps that are used for people who could not get in the bath. Not as through as a proper hair wash but good when all else fails. No water involved there is a cleaning agent inside the cap.We used them for a long time, with no adverse effects on her hair or scalp and great when time is short ,brushing was a nightmare we used a hairbrush called a tangle teaser and they worked really well. Just a thought for times when spending a long stressful time, which can be counterproductive, is short. We used them in between the major shampoo routine. I love your blow up bath,l remember having a small paddling pool in the lounge. Keep up the great work ❤❤❤

AWESOME JOB MOM!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 2/3 hours is Amazing! My daughter is on the Spectrum as well and we struggle to do her hair too. We have to do her hair in parts. DAY 1:TAKEDOWN, DETANGLE, WASH AND BLOW DRY >>>DAY 2: ACTUALLY DO HER HAIR…I.E… BRAIDS OR WHATEVER PROTECTED STYLE WE DECIDE ON. She dreads wash days and it’s a struggle for sure. She will go two months or more before she will let me get near her head. So, I commend you for your patience because it has to be difficult for someone who is also Neurodivergent. I’m Neurotypical and it’s hard for me. God bless you! Keep up the good work! We love your content because it brings awareness to the world seen through a child’s perspective, as well as a parent’s perspective.

Omg you do soo well to make little Miko comfy! I had a suggestion that may cut ur was time down and thats to have her hair sectioned in at least 4 twists before wash day. So regardless of what ever style it was in (fro, puff , twists, braids) spend a day detangling with water and oils as you do when you style her hair, then section into at least 4 twists. Then wash each section one by one, popping them back in to twists after you've rinsed them. Hope that helps, sorry if it doesnt!

I've been using paddle brushes for detangling while hair is drenched. It was hard at first because water would get caught under the paddle and it would get moldy 😮. Then I went to vented paddle brushes. And now this new brush with the holes is a game changer! It's so easy. Lots of water and lots of conditioner. Detangling is easy and minimal hair shed. Thick and long hair tip: part hair down the middle, saturate both sides with water, wash, condition and detangle(paddle brush), rinse and keep detangled, braid and let air dry.....another game changer. Lots of water and conditioner prevents snagging while detangling.

I'll say again it is so much easier to tackle her hair if you do not take it all down at once. It is hard to switch if you put it all together in one ponytail. Speaking from experience. Always use sections. At least four. When her hair is all together in a puff. Start by sectioning and detangling first. It can be days before. Actually wash her hair in sections. Meaning taking one section a loose at a time. Wash it, rinse, twist and clip. Then on to the next. Same for conditioner and deep conditioning. Much easier to pause in between if needed. This is also bomb for regular hair combing. First it makes the process quicker. Take one ponytail down at a time. It also helps you not to feel defeated or push yourself. If you need to rush iut the door or quit for the day. Her hair will still be done in ponytails. Braiding vs twisting is your friend. When we had meltdowns. I could simply freshen her hair and brush baby bangs and out the door we went. She has such beautiful hair and it makes a difference when the task is quick & easy.❤ She will get use to the routine after a while. Again try to limit taking all of the hair down at once. From another Ausome Mom. Mikko is doing a Great job while getting her hair done. She is quite the little sweetheart😍 Continue doing and sharing what an Awesome job of gentle parenting you are doing.🤗❤ Best Wishes~

Hey Precious and Mikko! In your previous hair video I made a suggestion to help during wash day. I am super tender headed and I have the same hair type as Mikko with a little more length. The only thing that saves me time, my arms, and back from hurting and less pain... is too do th entire wash day with my hair already sectioned... You should try washing her hair while its already in about 6 jumbo twist and going through each step while its twisted... You will stll clean all strands and avoid all hair being tangle and loose and needing to be combed through each step...

You are so right about the ends but being right for you! Please check out SHASH. It's a very good (slightly expensive, but she's worth it) German brand. I LOVE mine, absolutely, and I recommend the paddle style, just like your other two brushes. 😊❤

If you would detangle her hair first, section it and braid it in about 6 plaits and rubber band the ends while it's dry and THEN shampoo with the plaits in and leave it plaited for a few days until it's dry.....or time to shampoo again. It's more difficult to detangle wet hair because you have opened the cuticles and they grab onto each other. Use a low pH shampoo and conditioner like Chi...it has a 4.5 pH. The lower the pH, the easier it will be for you. Leaving her hair loose is THE WORST thing to do. It'll make it tangle more. I have a lot of hair and doing it the way I told you has made my life so much easier.

That Carols Daughter line is the exact same one I use in my daughter’s hair. It’s so good with her texture too. Have you ever tried a wide tooth comb for the first go at detangling? That’s been the easiest strategy for us. My daughter has from visual appearance a similar texture I think. Loads of hair on their little heads equals lots of work on wash day for sure.

I love your channel and appreciate you sharing your lessons and growth with the world. I tried to like every comment with hair tips that I thought were helpful to easing the hair care process for you both. Some tips that have worked for me: I highly recommend sectioning the hair before washing to ensure every strand is cleansed, even if you have to wet it first, that step will make cleansing, conditioning and detangling a lot easier. I also believe conditioner is your friend and using as much product to help the detangling process is key, I've used Aussie's Miracle Moist conditioner, Tgin Rose water conditioner and leave-in, and even Trader Joe's Tea Tree Conditioner for detangling my 4a and partners 3b/c hair. A nice alternative to the denman brush would be Felicia Leatherwood's Detangler Brush or the Tangle Teezer. I hope this is helpful!

❤ Youre doing a great job Mom! I know you are always looking for ideas. I saw this device and wondered if you and mikko had tried it. Its a hair washing device you put on your sink called shampootime. The yt family the Schollers use it for their little girl. The child lays on their back on a thick pad and it has a holder for a video device above it so they can watch while you wash their hair over the sink. Just suggesting in case it could help. It might b a little easier on both of you if it works. And of course thats if mikko likes it😊

That is the same brush for my tender headed grandchild. The black one is my start then I got a grey one same as first but with thick bristles in each arm.

Thank God for you mamma. I would have to keep her hair no longer than shoulder-length. She has a lot of hair...beautiful as it is. Can the plastic tub fit inside of the bathtub to be easier for wash days. She has fine strands of hair, but high/full density (a lot of hair). God bless you both. Love this family.

It's hard, I love how gentle you are with her head. Growing up I always heard. People talking about "tender headed this.. tender headed that.." ok, why does a kid need to be able. To tolerate someone handling their hair roughly? Anyways. I started laying my little ones on the bathroom counter to wash their hair because both of them just Could not tolerate it in the bath. This way I can see their faces and reassure them and we can sing, etc. I don't need to brush their hair as it Goes though, so idk if that would work for Mikko.

I wonder if a shorter hairstyle would be more beneficial for her, less to maintain and less to have to overload on her sensories. I had to do this for myself. Keep up the good work!

She uses her hair to stim. She’s also came aloooong way. Also being younger you have a tender head. As she gets just a little bigger maybe Ina year or so she’ll be totally fine. Shes been having so many milestones. I’ve been watching for a little while. 😊

Do you think this brush will work on mixed hair? My daughter has 3a-3b hair and my sons is 3c-4a but they both get sooo many knots no matter what i do and scream and cry when i have to brush. We have so many different brushes and they all hurt them. Should i try this one? (The blue one)

Her hair is going to be more tangled after you're done but , you're doing your best.
