    By the yokes and glareshield, I can tell this is an older Cardinal, which still has the analog instruments, which is perfect for the purpose. The only surprise if not ready, is when going around, andn enough up pitch trim is in, but it's seldom a big issue. Nice video indeed.

    I have questions. Why/how did you buy a plane with corrosion so bad on a spar that it has to be replaced? How long have you owned it? how has it passed annual? Pass a pre-buy? How could the spar be so corroded that it has to be replaced but it wasn't found ? How did you go through all this and still not know how to spell EDDY?

    Here is a question: How much over 50? I am 43 (hexadecimal, yes I use base 16 for my age now), in good health. No Pharma for me. I have been at a gym, first time in my life, been going consistently for over a year and a half. Do I stand a chance at getting hired for flying in two years from now?

    Yeah, yeah….ever notice you don’t see bush pilots flying amphibs? The most practical mod for the Lske would be to put it on floats. Except for weight increase that would give access to docks, get you high enough to see dead heads, give you compartment floation for safety and increase wave tolerance…just sayin

    Hi good evening. Very nice video. I work ATC in the TTZP FIR (PIARCO FIR). Can you elaborate on that strange request you received about leaving the airspace? I'm curious. Maybe I can help shed some light on it also.

  • @Over50andLearningToFly
    @Over50andLearningToFlyАй бұрын

    You know it’s been almost 2 years and I can’t remember what that request was. I remember in the middle of the islands. A controller told me that they have to charge us for going through their airspace which was really strange and I said OK and he gave me a number to call when we landed at our destination. I think that was it anyway thanks for watching!

    In 1969 I had an introductory flight at the age of 13 in what was then called the Rose Valley Airport. My family lived in Rose Valley maybe a quarter mile from the airport and on lazy summer days my friends and I would lay in the grass at the end of the runway and wait for airplanes to fly twenty feet overhead. I saved my first flight 'logbook' and added it to my PPL when I started flying here in Canada (at an age over 50). What a treat to see this video. My home airport is the Guelph Airpark (CNC4) and every bit as small and fun as KVKK.

    Looks as if there was no corrosion treatment even in 1968. And it doesn't look as if you took the aircraft completely apart, although you have taken the interior out, the wings off and the carry through out.

    Had no idea you could change frequency from Flight Following to listen to weather. What if they need you to do an abrupt direction, climb for traffic.

  • @Over50andLearningToFly
    @Over50andLearningToFly3 ай бұрын

    You just tell ATC that you’re switching over to talk to flight service and that you’ll be right back and then switch your frequency back to ATC and let them know that you’re back. People do this all the time and it’s a great way to keep in contact with both. Thanks for watching!

    Similar thing just happened to me a few weeks ago except in my case I had an RPM drop. The right mag dropped like normal and the left mag sputtered to a near stop. It turns out that the left mag's break point was not breaking enough causing a loss of voltage going to the spark plugs.

    Why does a new engine need a new alternator? If your alternator is working fine there’s no need to replace it.

    @@Over50andLearningToFly I think it really depends on the age of the alt. If it has the same hrs as a run out engine like 2000 then sure. But if it was replaced a few hundred hrs ago and checks out I wouldn’t. Chances of failure with a new unit are much higher.

    Flew a Cardinal for my required complex time during commercial training. It was love at first flight after “living” in a 172 through private & instrument training. School only had two complex/retractable gear aircraft, the Cardinal & an old, worn-out, Hershey Bar wing Arrow. That meant scheduling the Cardinal was difficult since everyone loved it! I was thoroughly briefed on landing the 177 before flying it & had no problem at all in transitioning from a 172. I was signed off for solo in an hour. I would rent a Cardinal today without thinking. What a wonderful airplane!
