Where Have I Been?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello Everyone!
I know I said I was back and then I went away again. Here is the explanation!
I do have some news- I got my transition, I don’t use the word retire, date from my job and I will be transitioning out of full-time work in October 2023 so I have 11 months left to go! I am doing a lot of flying in fact, a real lot of flying. I have passed 1000 hours and I am coming up to 12:00 hours right now - so I have just been busy!
My flying has obviously changed. I am still doing a lot of leisure trips in my cardinal, and I’m doing a lot of trips between Tampa in Washington DC as I shuttle back-and-forth.
One thing to take note of, there has been an awesome change in my flying that happened right around 800 hours. My flying and my attitude and my mentality and my thought process really changed from being this leisure pilot to more of a mission based pilot. It’s really become more of a job which is awesome. It’s changed my whole thinking and I’m starting to think and behave. Like a professional pilot now. Especially moving up to the 210. Every pilot that I’ve spoken to has said the same thing about the Cessna P2 10 is that you’ve got to treat this plane like an airliner and they are exactly right. The 210 is a completely different aircraft or fly and it’s really like your first big boy plane. I put about 150 hours in the 210 this year and I feel I’m just sort of getting the hang of it. The best thing about the 210 is that you can cruise along at 18 to 20,000 feet do about 200 to 210 kts. over the ground sometimes even a little bit more and you can actually get to where you’re going in a short amount of time. It’s a fantastic Airplane.
The big question is here is where do you want to take your flying? And wherever you want to take your flying that’s perfectly fine. You don’t have to do anything other than what you want to do. If you want to buy a Cessna 152 and take yourself for $100 hamburgers that is awesome and if you want to buy a nice cirrus and be able to take your wife and family for awesome weekend and awesome vacations that’s just as awesome it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you define what you going to do with it because I want you to find it, you’ll have a goal and you’ll be able to work toward it. kind of the same thing plan your flight and fly your plan. The same translates into life
I still get so many calls and emails and comments from people saying that how flying has changed their life and all this stuff is possible in our 50s.
Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

Got my ticket when I was 53. I am now 71 almost 72 and I have 3 more years of flying left. I promised my wife I would fold the wings at 75. My one regret is that I did not do this earlier in life. For you young whippersnappers, get up there and fly, fly, fly

I’m 52 and just started flight training. Following my son who started last year and is about to get his instrument rating. Looking to get all my certs and “transition” to career #3 within the next 2-years. Have always loved flying and now glad there seams to be an opening to get in. I’m probably too old to be able to fly 747’s, don’t have enough runway to build those hours, but if I can get on with a regional or cargo I will be happy with that. A day of flying has got to be better than what I do now!

Taking a commercial check ride in a couple of weeks, thinking that eventually I’d like to be flying 135 but the next step is CFI-I. Good luck on your journey.

Hi Ted, 52 y/o here working on my instrument. My plan is to fly commercial in any form (charter, maybe cargo caravan, etc). But my training is dragging and dragging. I’m now in a part 61 school and things are slow and expensive. How did you do your training? I wish I was 22 y/o and attend ATP and get this done quickly.

I did my training at Obx Airplanes down in the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I would try and find a good flight instructor and an airplane and block out two weeks just to finish up your training if you could where are you located?

@@Over50andLearningToFly the good news is that I’m scheduled for checkride on 12/27. I’ve been training IFR since December so it will be a full year. I don’t want to do that again for the subsequent ratings. I’d love to do comercial right after that but in a week or two week course. . I can travel.
