    Besides pure protoyping, when you _sell_ 3D-printed items in small series (say, 25 to 100 units per month), can SLS fit the bill compared to FDM? Stacking items in the whole build volume of the print chamber is tempting. In the other hand, FDM 3D printers are so cheap (sub $1000) so they can run in parallel in a small farm; and above all, PLA, PETG, ASA filaments are so cheap (about $20 per kilogram, sometimes less, sometimes more for advanced ones). Even if a disruptive company is about to come with a $3K SLS 3D printer on the market, the PA12 powder is still quite exepensive. Non-sintered powder can be reused, admitedly. There is also the mandatory time waiting for the build chamber to cool down before being able to unmold the cake, then manual post-processing. In the end, all boils down to the question: what are the economics for a small shop?

    My thoughts on the $3k printer: www.linkedin.com/posts/kpillonel_the-new-2999-sls-3d-printer-has-just-been-activity-7185527331111804928-foe7? I think you're only comparing them based on economics, but you can't really do that because use cases can be wildly different just based on part strength and, even more importantly, surface finish quality. I would never sell FDM-printed AirPods cases, so I can't even compare the economics between the two technologies for that application. SLS was the cheapest and most agile option for me.

    P.S. nice video but haha at the end the part you printed for the vacum with FDM broke because the orientation was wrong in the first place. If you would tilt it 45-90 degrees to the side it would never broke :)

  • @ExploringTheSimulation
    @ExploringTheSimulation20 күн бұрын

    You are correct that the orientation can be changed; however, it adds a lot of supports, and other features would then also perhaps not be very strong. Hence, it showcases my point about having to make tradeoffs with FDM. Thank you for your comment.

    expert idea to do the leveling on a carpet

  • @ExploringTheSimulation
    @ExploringTheSimulation20 күн бұрын

    I didn't though... I just pulled away the stationary feet on the carpet to move the whole thing. When it was in its final position, I did the leveling (not shown on the video). To do the leveling, the printer needs to be turned on as it helps you to do it the right way.

    Got my v1.1 kit and installed it today, went very well. Here is my only recommendations to make the install instructions easier. 1. it doesn't mention that you won't be reinstalling the plate the microphone is attached to. I was trying to figure out a way to remove the ring from the inner microphone mount, I spent a long time trying to hammer the insert out, but after rereading your instructions I could see that it wasn't going to be used. Just mention in the instructions what pieces can are not going to be reinstalled. 2. The microphone plastic piece fit very well but it would be good to just put the adhesive pad on the part or give a couple adhesive pads in the box. 3. You should warn earlier about needing a 7mm T1 driver, I ended up having to cut my tool in half with a hack saw. I would have ordered it if I had known up front (my bad for not reading the full instructions first).

    1:48 hey does the charger still do it's thing without the lip that you removed???? if that's the case since its pushed into the port i need to open the headphones and remove the lip and it should maybe charge???

  • @Adamant9
    @Adamant9Ай бұрын

    Wow now you can charge you headphones with a reversible connector that is readily accessible…. Oh wait lightning is already that. Honestly don’t get the need to make everything USB C. The regulations causing that means that most people that have had iPhones for years now have to buy all new charging bricks (because their old bricks are USB A) or they have to buy new USB A - USB C cables which defeats the purpose. I have tons of lightning cables that I’ve accumulated over the years plugged in around the house that are now useless to my new USB C iPhone…. Meanwhile my wife’s phone is lightning. And there’s literally no advantage for me… I’m just charging it.

    Instead of manufacturing each board with the USB-C audio passthrough, could you create a kit that allows the customer to rob the IC from the proper adapter and flow it on themselves? Would be more of a challenge but would still make it cheaper than doing each board individually. Also would be cool to see if the 2 way audio even works. It would be so nice to use the airpods max on airplanes when watching the built in airplane movies.

    That was a lot of work just for a different cable. For the average person I don’t think possibly destroying your 550 dollar head phones for a USB-C port is worth it. It’s not like charging to USBC is offering you any real benefits for these head phones.
