    Maybe they believed that because distillation gets rid of the germs. Apparently, a lot of medieval people were drunk on beer much of the time.

    I don’t think they knew about germs, just demons and souls. Distillation initially was considered purifying in the soul sense, not the germ sense. But you are right. Beer was what everyone drank!

    I’m 45 and have discovered vlogging. It’s so fun. I’m new, but you’re right: three years after you made this video, it’s not so easy to find us where it doesn’t talk about the topics you mentioned. I don’t care about makeup, I don’t care about looking like I’m 20, I don’t need to know how to dress…whatever. But I DO love making more cinematic-like videos tackling the issues that arise for the middle-aged-age group. Appreciate your video! 😊

    You can do it! I think young people haven’t made as many mistakes and are fearless. Older people, especially women, should forgive themselves for trying new things. It’s the only way to stay in the game! 🤠❤️

    A local land baron was partially responsible for saving the buffalo thru captive breeding. His name was Harry Trexler. He bred them in his private(now public) game preserve. Today it is a county zoo and park where they are trying to breed American elm crossed with Asian elm to resist the Dutch elm disease.

    Credit has been given to Charles Goodnight’s wife Molly for saving a few. My opinion is that tribal efforts, due to their deep 15k+ year connection to buffalo culture, deserves the majority of the credit for the comeback of the buffalo. 🦬

    Wow ! You need to do your research! They were killed to take away the indians food source. The government offered $2 per tail. They cared nothing about the rest and left them in big piles to rot. Most of the si called buffalo are now bison. I guess wounded knee was just a military thing. A thing where the slaughtered women and children. Learn facts before speaking with forked tongue.

    Uh yaaa..... The real reason for bison extermination came from the top. Bison were the lifeblood of the Plains Indians and allowed them to survive a mobile life. Without the bison the tribes would not only be landlocked but also increasingly dependent on the US government for the myriad of things that the bison was used for. It was a genocidal act. Any uses that Americans found fot the bison was only an after-fact effort at justification for their slaughter.

    Tribal courage and perseverance has brought them back? Lady, I'm not about to take away from the work done by various tribes and their members to save the bison, but it's an outright lie to say it was "tribal courage and perseverance" that saved the species. There was a lot of effort and money from private sectors, states, and the federal government that was crucial to success. Not to mention the important fact that the bison is an extremely hardy species and remarkably successful when breeding. Be honest when teaching. Don't hide the evil our Nation or any Nation or People or Tribe has done. But don't hide the good that's been done either. Give credit where credit is due, for good or for bad.

  • @kitchenwrangler
    @kitchenwranglerАй бұрын

    I appreciate your perspective but I only cover food history. Also, other accounts of the return of buffalo credited non-native American groups/settlers for for saving them. Check out this project www.texastribalbuffaloproject.org

    History must be preserved in it's entirety if any lessons of value are to be learned, not just the cherry picked versions of events to fulfill the current thought process!

  • @HistoryOnTheLoose

    100% correct, and am glad I didn't have to type it all out myself lol. The return of the buffalo/bison has less to do with any tribal involvement than scattered individuals with the resources to promote that goal. Pre-Columbian peoples stampeded entire herds over cliffs to secure a fraction of the kill for their use. The untold waste easily rivaled that of the 1800s. The "noble Red Man" was and is just a regular guy, no more or less noble than any other. I would suggest that if food history is the focus, that's what should be focused on, and not try to teach overall history after poking around a couplethree online/unverified sources. Talk about tongue, "boudins"(not to be confused with the charcutrie) or just roasted intestine, how ribs were roasted on stakes in the ground, and the craving for hump meat over any other cut and the addictive reason for it. Plenty of material focusing on just the food.
