    Hello Doug, this is a great video for a newbie boater like me who incidentally bought the exact same boat as yours last summer except mine is a year older (2002). This is a fantastic learning opportunity for me given that all of your tips and findings are 100% applicable right down to the wiper replacement. I've already started doing some of the maintenance work that you outlined like cleaning the flame arrestor etc., I also tested my flow switch and yes, it was operational. Luck of the draw I suppose...🤗 Thanks so much for taking the time to produce this wonderful tutorial and I would love to see more if you get the chance ! SRIII.

    iphone ipad and drone, but somehow has a recorder connected to the audio board. Problem with uncle bobs isnt how good/bad their work is, its how much they get in the way on the wedding day. I had videos and photos ruined because uncle bob though was ok to stand in the middle of the aisle taking photos. that's when uncle bobs become a problem.

  • @DougAlesUSA

    Thank you for your comment. RE: clear audio - how I did it is I ran a cable from an open line level RCA output on the DJs mixing board to a RCA to 3.5MM adapter then a 3.5MM TRS to TRRS to my iPads 3.5 MM port with an inexpensive Rode brand connector. Same cable that came with a Rode micro-shotgun Rode I use when YouTubing. See, when cutting down an Uncle Bob wedding photographer or videographer, the pros like to use the worst of the worst Uncle Bobs as their example. Well, I could point to the worst self-appointed pro photographer. This is not real world most of the time. The worst of either is an extreme example, like one bad cop does not make all police officers bad. Uncle Bobs are asked by the wedding couple to capture content. I was asked by this couple. We don’t have cameras from Cannon or Nikon but we have smartphones, tablets, drones like a DJI Mavic Mini which don’t need a Part 107 FAA license, GoPro cameras, lightweight tripods, simple accessories such as camera mounts, and basic free editing software like iMovie. Hobby KZread content creators like me talk to the photographer well before the wedding date. We work it out or the wedding couple cuts one of us. I did talk to the pro photographer, the officiant, and the DJ in advance. Met with the couple where we discussed things such as their favorite song, etc. As a professional wedding photographer you know only two pictures you take that day matter, one with just the newlywed couple, one with just the bride. Two years later, those are the only professional photos that matter. The rest are just fluff to justify charging thousands to line your pockets. Smartphones are plenty good for all the rest of the photos. Once you accept this, you’re actually the one in my way, not the other way around. Just one example, with the couples permission, I can share and tag most of the people and all of the important people from the wedding because they are my relatives and friends too. This video is one gift I gave to the wedding couple. As a KZread content creator we can get it edited, uploaded, and shared on social media before the tuxedos are returned to the rental shop. If I had one ask of you it would be this, recognize not all Uncle Bobs are equal just like not all professional photographers are equal. Hobby KZread content creators make an excellent Uncle Bob wedding videographer. Amateur quality? Absolutely. Good enough? You’re darn tooting it’s good enough. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.

    Doug my friend, awesome vacation subscribed to your channel. Hey on your time stamps if you add 0:00 start right above 0:18 first it will show up on the videotape line, not sure how to explain that. Hope you understand. Your video is real cool I love the music that you put with it. Where can I get that and not get a copyright strike. I also love you drone footage just be careful when you start making money you might want to looking getting a FAA 107 license I just found that out. I would like to get a drone and make some videos with it. Sorry I Do not write as much as you. Thanks again for watching my videos

  • @DougAlesUSA
    @DougAlesUSA3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you Jim. Per your advice, I added 0:00 Start in my description. To avoid a copy strike, I do not monetize when I add copy written music, which sends the monetization to the music copy-write owner. I was FAA 107 but have let it lapse. If I ever choose to monetize, I can simply renew it. A freind who is really into the drone thing showed some statistics that very few people who got their FAA 107 bothered to renew it. By the way, outside of USA, the FAA 107 requirements do not apply. This most recent April fools day saw a lot of faux articles about NASA getting a fine from the FAA for not complying with the line-of-sight rule when they flew their drone on Mars, LOL. Thank you for your subscription. Ill be subscribing to your channel also. Best wishes Jim.

  • @DougAlesUSA
    @DougAlesUSA3 жыл бұрын

    @@Andrico77 Thank you. The rock strike occurred as we were precisely between the red and green markers going minimum idle speed with the drive partially raised, as we were leaving Medicine Lake and entering Big Fork Lake near the town of Three Lakes on the Wisconsin Eagle River chain of lakes. Thank goodness the damage was not severe. The forwarded / bow most 1/4th of the skeg looks like a shark bit it. The rear / stern 3/4th of the skeg closest to the propellers is undamaged. I intend to repair the damage myself in spring. I may weld on a new skeg or reshape the skeg, then go from there. The stainless propellers are not bent, only some minor edge burring, so I can fix that myself with a hand file. This follow-up and do-it-yourself repair may be worthy of a new video. Thank you for your question.

    Great video! Looks like the boat is a Sea Ray 215 EC. I just bought a 1998 SR 215 and will be doing the maintenence jobs you performed in your video. The boat spent its entire life in fresh water and it is extremely clean. The bilge pump works with the dashboard switch but I did not yet check the float switch. I will do that test! My boat does not have a wiper but I will try using RainX on the windshield. Do you have any other videos about this boat? Thanks again for the very informative video.

    Wow Thanks Doug. This is not a new idea for me (40 years) And yes the terminology is different. If it has a sail its a Yacht. If it's a "scimming" boat its a Speed boat. The rest are Cruisers. ( to the average person) I live in Goulburn NSW. An hour and hour and twenty from the sea. So Baitmans Bay in our favourite destination. And far enough away from Sydney to be not expensive. The best Marina is $ 6000.00 for a year for a 10 meter boat. Power. Water. Black water removal service. Wi-Fi all included. My Sister had a houseboat on Broken bay We would stay there occasionally. So if we never slip the moorings its cool. Baitmans Bay is fun in its self. On the wild side it would be nice to have boat that could make the trip to Tasmania. The Sydney to Hobart. Is a big thing down here. So I did enjoy your interview on the Mermaid monster .Aussies love "Taking the Piss" And if you ever make it down my way drop in stay for a meal or a few days. Cooking is my main Hobby Cheers Doug

  • @Badastro59
    @Badastro593 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Doug. Cruisers are a little cheaper in Australia. I'm looking for a boat myself but unless I win the lottery. A Nordhavn 55 is out of my League. My mum took us on a similar adventure back in the 1960s but on land in a 16 ft caravan ( trailer) much like the film Captain fantastic. but Working class. My mum was Unwell and was dead by 1972. HAPPY TRAILS

  • @DougAlesUSA
    @DougAlesUSA3 жыл бұрын

    glen wooten, is there anything else I can do for you? As far as Nordhavn prices being high among cruisers, they are not cruisers, at least not given how we use the term in the USA. When I hear the term cruiser, I assume the person is talking about a boat with a cabin and a planing hull that rides on top of the water for speed, like a rock skipping across the waters surface, has comparatively short maximum fuel range, under 200 miles, and minimal to no system redundancy, for use where rescue is available in short order, under a day. This cruiser type of boat spends a fraction of a percent of its life with the motors running. 20 year used cruisers are commonly found with under 1,000 hours on the motors. This boat is ideal for cruising along the coastline, going from marina to marina, or visiting islands under a days journey from shore. A Nordhavn is a full displacement trawler. Its hull does not skip across the waters surface like a boat with a planing hull, it flows through the water like a torpedo, speed is replaced by efficiency, fuel range is measured in the thousands of miles, system redundancy exists for all critical systems. The vessel has systems to polish its own fuel, desalinate salty ocean water for drinking, cooking, and bathing, and the motors life expectancy is measured in the tens of thousands of hours. This is the vessel that’s needed to cross oceans, called passage making or blue water boating. Within this type of boat, Nordhavns are considered a quality, rugged, semi-custom vessel at a near production vessel price. ♦️What is your intended boating application? Day cruising? Occasional overnights? Weeks onboard at a time? Live onboard? ♦️How far do you intent to travel on your boat? Gone for a day? A month? A year? Crossing oceans? ♦️What is your desired vessel size? ♦️What is your purchase price and annual slip/storage/insurance/maintenance/fuel/repairs budget expectations? ♦️Could you describe your past level of boating experience? How would you assess your personal level of seamanship? As a point of reference, my previous cruiser was 31 feet long, had twin engines and a generator. I purchased it 7 years used, and after adding the generator, it cost a bit over $80,000 USD. If I did not use the boat, the boat cost me about $800 USD month year round between slip/storage/insurance/repairs and maintenance. At the start, I had most of the repairs and maintenance done for me. Three years later, I was doing all routine maintenance and as much of the repairs as I could myself. I had no monthly payment, so none of that $800/month went to pay for the boat. Fuel economy was about 1 mile to the gallon. When I actually used the boat, the costs went up by how much fuel I used. I typically burned through 100 gallons of fuel on a weekend, at about $4/gallon. My total operating costs were ballpark $12,000 - $14,000/year USD. I slept onboad about 30 nights a year, almost all of it away from any maina, on the hook/anchor. With Mermaid Monster being 55 feet long, much wider, and 365 days/year live aboard, all expenses would me much higher. Today, I have a smaller trailer boat with cuddy cabin. All costs are much smaller. We are enjoying exploring inland waterways, but as we age, the days when we are comfortable pulling, launching, and loading this boat are numbered. I also miss the creature comforts of a larger boat such as air conditioning, a flushing toilet, a shower, and a real mattress. Within 3-5 years, I expect we will return to the marina life, with a express cruiser in the 37 foot long range.

    Chris Trenholm with the black plastic engine cover in place, the flame arrester is covered. In that case, when using a garden hose with typical garden hose pressure, there are no areas that are off limits. The electrical connectors are built to NEMA 4X, something similar to IP68 today. Personal safety should include having power turned off, extension cords unplugged, and battery terminals covered. Hope this helps.
