    ive read the last 3 in your list and I totally agree with your picks. Light of The Jedi and other books in that series catch a lot of heat because of the more "woke" inclusions in them as well as the writers like Justina Ireland saying controversial stuff online. But man, that book is phenomenal imo, the one thing I really love it for more than anything else is how it really makes you sad when you compare the republic from this book to the one in the movies. Really goes to show how sidious and plagueis completely ruined it. The Idealism and the fact that the Republic actually feels like a galactic community that help each other out when things get bad actually make me really like the faction. Later entries in this series havent been nearly as good as light of the jedi but im still willing to read the rest of the novels (at least the adult ones)

    I really enjoyed and was enamoured by the idea of the Eye Of Palpatine, as an asteroid shaped dreadnaught built secretly during his reign as Chancellor, but the way it was used in the story was embarrassing. Sandpeople and Gamorreans brainwashes ti think they were Stormtroopers.. peel me a grape! I think some other shmuck wrote those parts, because the rest of the book was pretty good!

    Good list. I enjoyed Master & Apprentice (gave it 4 out 5 stars); have read the first book in the Canon Thrawn series-loved it; (5 stars); am behind on my High Republic books, but very much enjoyed Light is the Jedi (4 stars).

    I love how this book brought together the Thrawn Trilogy with the Jedi Academy Trilogy, by making Pellaeon and Daala team up. Regardless of what people think of Kevin J Anderson's writing, what i love about him is how he handles all other creators' content and respects the canon established by others before him, making them all merge together. Zahn might have kickstarted the EU, but Anderson really brought it all together.

    I hope you get to read more Ursula K. Le Guin, the first book in earthsea is definitely one of the worst, with each subsequent book better than the last. You can tell how much she grew as a writer with that series. Her science fiction books like the dispossesed, left side of darkness and especially lathe of heaven are masterpiece books for her era. I hope to read more starwars books, thank you for the recommendations

    Lockdown is def one of my fav Legends books, and talked alot less about than the other Maul book Shadow Hunter, which I find odd since its just as good if not better. Havent read any of the others yet but they are all on my radar. Focusing on New Jedi Order currently, but Im planning do a little "jump-around cleanup" before I move on in the legends timeline. Just to mention one I feel underrated myself is the Old Republic book Deceived, really liked that one.

    The writing is definitely hard to follow. I had to re-read several paragraphs to make sure i understood where it went.... there are very long sentences that tackle several subjects and paragraph that starts on a subject, then go through endless descriptions of something else, only to loop back to the original topic. If it has one thing going for it though, it's that It's one of the few Star Wars stories where i was more interested in Leia's story than anyone else's... usually Leia always gets to deal with political squabbling, but here, she actually had lots to do and developed her powers as a Jedi.

    I just looked up the full artwork you mentioned . . . you're right, holy crap that's wild. This is definitely in my top 10 for canon books, all killer no filler is exactly how I'd describe it. Any story involving the Sith in general I find just tends to go harder than the average SW novel. Great review!

    Hey Caleb I’m new to the Star Wars world And I want to know if the legends books have to be read in order to understand the whole story of Star Wars I just love the whole Jedi and space fighting and saving the universe stuff I’ve read that I would have to read starting with the high republic and on But I like the legends books better Can you give me some kind of advice Thank you

  • @caleblikesbooks
    @caleblikesbooksАй бұрын

    In some cases, but not entirely. There are plenty of standalones, trilogies, and series that can be read independently or without the wider context of the Legends timeline Many of the books within their respective eras do build on one another, or even building across eras. I’d say it’s a good idea to read most of the trilogies and series taking place after Return of the Jedi (Thrawn trilogy, Jedi Academy trilogy, New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force, etc) in order, for example. It’s not entirely necessary to read all the books that way though-most of the big event stories give you the basic context you need, so I wouldn’t say it’s 100% necessary to read all the in-between books, but it does help if you want the full picture There are lots of good resources online with recommendations. I plan to do some “where to start” videos sometime, but it will probably be a little while since I want to have read more before doing those

  • @animalmother8037
    @animalmother8037Ай бұрын

    I didn't start at the very beginning but picked up where return of the Jedi left off in the new republic era. There are also stand alone books like Kenobi that you can read alone without feeling too lost. In my opinion there's no one way you have to start with the SW EU/Legends books

    I read the whole series in one of those thick books that had the series all in one book. I decided to read it, cause I was having trouble finding good books to read in the YA section that wasn't all romantic vampires, or romantic dystopians or boring high school romance. Just a nice fun adventure story. I LOVED the series! I was quite surprised when I found out by accident that Japan made an anime series based on the books. It's actually quite good, and you can find episodes on youtube if you're interested.

    Only thing I’d suggest is maybe keeping some notes if that’s something that would be helpful to you. It’s pretty big in terms of scope and the number of characters involved, so that might help you keep track. Otherwise, it’s a pretty easy series to get into-there’s just a lot of it!

    I totally understand the interesting comments/looks you get when you say you read Star Wars books. I’ve loved Star Wars since high school when I saw A New Hope when it came out in 1977 and have been reading the books since they first started being written (taking time off to raise 3 sons who also love SW). I now have their collections, plus my own and am going thru and reading the books I missed and like you trying to catch up with The High Republic. I’ve read some amazing and some not so amazing, but I’m not going to stop now regardless of the looks or comments (Aren’t you a bit old to read SW?) lol I also read a few other genres, but always have a SW book nearby. I’m glad you enjoy talking about what you read and always look forward to a new video.
