I have the same net, but I’m Leary of the ball being hit over the net. Have you hit balls over the net into your neighborhood??

Literally the only sliding catch drill video on KZread. Excellent and goofy Video. 👏🔥HOF Jim Rice taught to catch every ball at or near shoulder height so you can see the ball go into the glove for the automatic out. The advantage of the slide catch is the ability to throw out base runners, who typically are taught to go half way in case it’s caught or not, so they don’t get thrown out. The beauty of the slide catch is the ability to stand up throwing out of the slide, giving the fielder more than enough time to double a base runner up 💥🔥

My son used to be excellent at this then at the beginning of last season he sustained a wrist injury from laying out. Ever since he has been hesitant. He’s recently been saying he needs to find training to boost his confidence. I’ve been searching tube for days looking for anything that I can get out there and help him. Watched numerous videos by Matt Antonella and various other professional coaches and then this popped up as a suggestion. I almost didn’t watch it thinking what’s a teenage girl gonna show me that a professional baseball coach can’t…..I am glad I hit the play button. This video smokes any of the other how to diving catch videos in all of KZread. Thanks for posting it and and keep it up.

Good tips on OF work but did not understand the purpose of the one drill where the ball is placed at a cone, you run and then dive or slide (ie coach shouts out), and round around the ball as if off the fence. Why the dive or slide in between the run and throw (ie as of off the fence)?

Cool video. Thanks. One tip…you’re gonna injure that throwing hand by bracing your fall with it. I would recommend leaving it out straight like superhero flying through air. I’d hate to see anyone dislocate shoulder or break wrist because of impact on it. Just like sliding head first as a baserunner. Keep those arms extended straight out. Thanks again. Best of luck with college 🙌🏻

I have been impressed with your softball tutorials. You have a knack for presenting solid information and demonstrating skills in a way that leaves an impression on young players. Since you now have experienced playing in college, you should put together some videos to share what your college experience as an athlete has been like. Too often young players who aspire to play in college go through the solicitation and recruitment process with no real idea of what it is really like to play at the college level. A lot of young players could use an honest snapshot of what it is like to go after a scholarship, sign to play, then actually fulfill the commitment.

Great tutorial!!! A point that needs to be made concerns the split grip (separated hands). Many young players will confuse the value of using the split grip in slapping vs. normal hitting. The split grip is perfectly fine for slapping where power is not the goal. However, when hitting normally, separating the hands will absolutely reduce power. The further apart your hands are, the less energy you can transmit to the ball. Also, if you split your hands in an extreme manner, your control over the bat will actually become less precise. The reasons for this lie in the physics that surround hitting and are too complicated to explain here. If the split grip feels better for you when slapping that's fine, but keep it minimal and do NOT use it when hitting normally.

One of the best tutorials I've seen with lots of correct information! One consideration when running through 1B... after passing the bag, turn your head right so you can see an overthrown ball missed by F3 (the first baseman), but don't pivot right and turn your back to 2B. Instead, pivot left so your body is facing 2B. This will allow a move to 2B to be much quicker because you don't have to turn around to start running. In reality, an overthrown ball will be on the ground in foul territory long before the runner can come to a stop and pivot. Practicing a clockwise pivot will create a bad habit. Practice a counterclockwise pivot instead. A minor point, but in this game the details matter! 😀

It is important to understand and practice good technique in order to use every advantage that is available to you. Especially important is knowing the difference between an "attempt" toward 2B and "returning directly to 1B". Here is a great explanation of technique that is used at the highest levels of the game. (There is no difference in baseball and softball when it comes to the best technique in overrunning 1B). kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmVsvLKCc9nZirg.html Here is the difference in "making an attempt" and "returning directly" from the umpire's point of view (again, no difference in the rule in baseball or softball at any level): kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3x9w9Jvm6S6pdI.html 🙂
