I do this with wild turkey, quail, and doves for my mountain home deck. It always puts me in a mindset that lets me view this chaotic society in proper perspective, kind of like Sagan's "tiny blue dot" speech does.

In Dutch we also say weemoed (vemod). You speak of the intense emotional connection with nature, a direct experience of the elements. I used to write out some of these feelings in poetry. Thank you for gently taking me back there, back through the mist and the vemod. The connection is always there.
