Yakmon Outdoors

My name is Russell Weir aka Yakmon. I live on the Texas coast just North of Corpus Christi. I will be using this channel for sharing videos of the outdoors and for learning more about videography and editing. I have a passion for the outdoors and I do my best to leave the areas I visit in better shape than they were before I enjoyed them. Please let me know what you think of the channel. I'm always learning and I enjoy dialogue about anything and everything related to the wilderness.

See you on the water!

    Bro!!! You are letting a lot of great oppertunites pass you by when you are going through that canal and not popping a cork along the way. All along those bends and curves the water current will remove and push mud or sand bottom. The bait fish well stack up there and the reds will crush them. You need to be throwing a popping cork with a good artificial on the bottom of a leader and start picking up those reds you are passing along the way. You dont need a local, trust me. The guys that tournament fish dont get the chance to hook up with a local all the time. There are several techniques that work in the marsh systems and thats what they stick to. The popping cork is one of them and I personaly have seen lots of tournaments won that way. Good luck!

    Fish swan lake a lot so the majority of the fish usually are staged in the middle above the grass line. Under water currents make the lake variable in water clarity. The back marsh hasn’t ever produced for me. So I rarely fish the marsh. Good video informative bird names and good footage. Grant is a friend of mine. We fish together when we can. Tight lines

  • @YakmonOutdoors

    I agree about the marsh area not producing. I did see that one fish right at the mouth, but absolutely nothing else. I'm a sucker for back lakes and skinny drains. I just had to go back there to look. Thanks for the info on the area. It is a cool place, just had to get my bearings. Probably wouldn't hurt to bring a lighter kayak either. It was really shallow in a lot of spots. I've got the secret baits for next time! Thanks for watching.

    Nice edit! I’ve been wanting to try that area, thinking it looks fishy. Thx for confirming. I’m no expert, but in super clear shallow water, choose a smaller finesse bait, like a small jerk bait, little john, ned rig, etc in a clear/natural color. Anything big and flashy that causes a lot of vibration will spook em normally. Slow the action down. A couple small twitches, reel in the slack and pause, repeat. Also, being able to cast far and accurately is key. Nothing like sight casting and watching them gobble it up. Tight lines!

    Same crap happened to my drive about two months ago in grass flats. Hit NOTHING, but broke in Exact fashion yours didn’t. For those black drum, try throwing those little bitty craw lures I gave you with some crab procure on them. Sometimes they’ll take it if you slowly drag it by them. 🍻

    New subscriber, have you ever done a video on how the Nueces Marsh or Marsh systems in general where formed? Dude I chased the reds in exact same conditions last 3 days and couldn't get them to bite my paddle tail ? I have alot of grass in the area I'm fishing so I have to use a weedless jig what plastic were you using ? Any suggestions?

  • @YakmonOutdoors
    @YakmonOutdoors10 ай бұрын

    I use the bubba clucker chicken boy. There's some additional info in the description. They are fairly small and look a lot like shrimp. I have pretty good luck with them in skinny water and marshy areas. chickenboylures.com/products/bubba-clucker-mullet-speckled-pecker-3in Grass is tough sometimes. There's a bigger variety of chick boy you could rig weedless or even with the paddle tail. Placement is key, especially in stained water. There's a fine line between close enough and too close for sure. I really should put out a blooper reel with missed casts and spooked fish. Lol. Good luck out there!
