Many Redfish in East Flats Near Port Aransas | Skinny Water Fishing | I Need a New Bait!

Today, I decided to try a place I hadn’t been to in years. I started the trip at Brown and Root Flats, and had high hopes with a beautiful sunrise and finally some clouds in the sky. I pedaled around for a bit, but quickly realized the tide was pretty low and the boat traffic was high. I saw a couple of fish, but nothing in numbers and I decided to make a run to East flats, a place I have never been in my kayak. I came across a few frigate birds before I left Brown and Root, totally cool to see these birds up close! I scanned the horizon for large boats, ships and tugs, when I didn’t see any I hauled ass across the ship channel South of Port Aransas. I actually saw the Pelican head boat fishing in the ship channel, catching mainly stingrays. I pedaled around the point and into East Flats and was met with super calm, super clear water. I got some footage of a speckled trout tailing, saw numerous redfish and other trout tailing on the water. The catching was rough, but I saw tons of fish! The polarizing lens really helped spot the fish underwater.
Birds in this video include the Frigatebird, Great Egret, Oystercatcher, Brown Pelicans

@@YakmonOutdoors that may have been the key!

Nice edit! I’ve been wanting to try that area, thinking it looks fishy. Thx for confirming. I’m no expert, but in super clear shallow water, choose a smaller finesse bait, like a small jerk bait, little john, ned rig, etc in a clear/natural color. Anything big and flashy that causes a lot of vibration will spook em normally. Slow the action down. A couple small twitches, reel in the slack and pause, repeat. Also, being able to cast far and accurately is key. Nothing like sight casting and watching them gobble it up. Tight lines!

Thanks for watching. I've got some smaller baits for next time. It was cool to see. I noticed I really didn't say much as I was really concentrating on the targets. Next time!

Yep. 17 miles and El Guapo said that was a plethora of reds. They just wouldn't bite. Too clear too and calm I guess. I got some small lures from @southtexasoutdoor5484 to try next time. The charts said fair fishing that day so there's that. I'd like to go back there, but need to find a closer launch!
