Welcome to the Advance Driving School KZread channel!

We are an independent driving school based in the UK. The videos on our channel suggest ways you can improve your driving, but they are not intended to replace proper driving lessons with an instructor. Our videos are written to help UK learner drivers perfect the essential driving skills needed to become a safe driver and pass the UK Driving Test. If you are a more experienced driver, or if you live in a different country you may drive in a slightly different way, but we hope you still find our videos interesting.

Feel free to leave any comments you have about our videos, and if you have a suggestion for the next video we should make please let us know. Just remember why there are speed limits, and what could happen if you were speeding when an emergency happens. Staying under the speed limit is for everyone’s safety, not just because. Drive carefully!

    @@AdvanceDrivingSchool I meant it’s easier to speed in automatic cars due to not having to change gears/progress speed etc. I’ll try and keep an eye on it and work on it tho.

    I've had a few instances recently where I struggle to go from 2nd to 3rd gear and end up going into 1st. I get into a panic I try and force it. I worry this will happen on the test. I also get into a panic when I am going really fast e.g having to get up to higher speeds and national speed limit.

  • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
    @AdvanceDrivingSchool6 күн бұрын

    'Level with your shoulders' is when the line is to the side of the car roughly in line with where we sit. So if you look directly left out of the passenger window the line should be about half way along the door, level with your shoulders. 👍🏼

    Tell Me Questions: Tell me how would you check if the brakes are working fine - The brake pedal should feel firm, not spongy. And also car should not pull to one side as it stops Tell me where you’d find the information for the recommended tyre pressure for this car and how tyre pressures should be checked. - I would look inside the driver’s door and check the tyre pressure information sticker then check the tyres with a pressure gauge when the tyres are cold. Compare the gauge reading to the sticker and remember to check all the four tyres and the spare tyre if fitted. Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash. - I would check and adjust head restraint until it is approximately levelled to the top of your head Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road - I would check all four tyres all the way around using a tread depth gauge to check the central 3 quarters of the tyre. They must be at least 1.6mm to be legal. We should also check the sidewall of the tyre for damage. There should not be any cuts or bulges. Tell me how you’d check that the headlights and taillights are working. - I would turn on the car’s ignition and the instrument should light up, then turn on the dipped headlamps and check the warning lamps have illuminated. Finally, walk around the car to check the headlamps and tail lamps are working correctly. Tell me how you’d know if there was a problem with your anti-lock braking system. - I would turn on the car’s ignition and look for the yellow abs warning light if the light continues to stay lit, it indicates that there is a problem with the ABS system. Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle. - I would switch on the hazard warning lights, then walk around the car and check all the 6 indicators are working correctly. Tell me how you would check the brake lights are working on this car. - I would turn on the car’s ignition and then push and hold the brake pedal to illuminate brake lights Tell me how you’d check the power assisted steering is working before starting the journey. - The steering will feel very heavy with the engine turned off, but after starting the engine, the engine should feel much lighter. Tell me how you’d switch the rear fog light and explain when you’d use them - I would turn on the car’s ignition and then switch on the dipped headlamps. Next, switch on the rear fog lamp and check the amber warning light is lit. Fog lamps should only be used when the visibility is less than 100 meters. Tell me how you’d switch your headlights from dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on. - I would turn on the car’s ignition and switch on the dipped headlamps then switch on the headlamps the main beam. The blue warning light confirms the main beam is on. Tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient oil. - Pull the bonnet release inside the car to pop the bonnet up. Open the bonnet and secure the stay. Remove the engine oil dipstick, wipe the dipstick clean. Replace and remove the dipstick again and check the oil level against the maximum and minimum marking. Tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient engine coolant. - Pull the bonnet release inside the car to pop the bonnet up. Open the bonnet and secure the stay. Identify the engine coolant reservoir. Check the fluid level against the markings. Tell me how you’d check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid. - Pull the bonnet release inside the car to pop the bonnet up. Open the bonnet and secure the stay. Identify the brake fluid reservoir. Check the fluid level against the markings. Show me Questions When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you ‘d switch on the dipped headlights? - Switch on the dipped headlamps and check the 2 green warning lights illuminate. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you ‘d wash and clear the front/rear windscreen? When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you ‘d demist the front/rear windscreen? When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you ‘d operate the horn? When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you ‘d open the side windows?

    I had my test recently, and I failed sadly on the parallel park. I practiced with cars where I lined up the wing mirrors for the reference point and parked well most of the time and was confident, but on my test, the car the examiner picked to do the maneuver on was facing the opposite way so from myself so I couldn't line up the mirrors for my 1st reference point. therefore I messed up the reference points and then ended up too close to the curb before straightening up, I then tried to correct it by moving forward but I ended up putting the car back in 1st instead of reverse as I was getting nervous, this made me get too close to the car in front as I moved forward instead of back and the examiner stepped on the brakes and took control of the car essentially. I am so annoyed as I had 0 miners and just this serious fault for a stupid mistake. I feel it wasn't all my fault as the examiner did make an easily messed up maneuver even harder. I hope to pass my test for the 2nd time next month. this video is great.

    In the first overtakes the driver accelerated to pass the car being overtaken and then whilst still in the overtake position and on the wrong side of the road and about to return to his own side of the road he actually changed gear. That is not an accepted practise as one should always select the appropriate gear first for the speed required and remain in that gear throughout the overtake. That's all part if I.P.S.G.A. training for advanced driving and riding.

  • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
    @AdvanceDrivingSchool12 күн бұрын

    There is nothing wrong with changing gear during an overtake if necessary. If you want to stay in one gear during the whole manoeuvre you might need to select a higher gear to avoid running into the engines rev-limiter - which would reduce initial acceleration. We would rather select the gear that gives the best acceleration, even if it means we need to change up a gear later on. Since overtakes should only be done on straight roads there should be no problem with car control when changing gear. Sometimes I have sufficient speed to complete the overtake, so then change to a higher gear to conserve fuel - rather than stay in the lower gear with excessive engine revs for longer than necessary. You are free to follow the guidelines that other organisations suggest but they are advice only - not a rule that must be obeyed.

    From Canada: The first thing that hit me about the Roundabout signs is that the left hand side of the sign is normally covered by vegitation as displayed at 0:11 to a very minor extent. I have seen Motorway signs that have the entire left half of the sign covered. For roundabouts I have found that the early sign indicates the large towns, while the signs at the exits in the roundabout indicate local keypoints. I love the roundabouts once I have a good idea of where to go, and know which exit to take.
