I drive on the M25 everyday for work, due to the volume of vehicles I simply put cruise control on and follow the HGV in front of me. If I was to drive at 70mph (which is near enough impossible on the M25 during rush hour) whilst on the motorway I would save two minutes but use approximately 30-40% more diesel. I completely agree with your thoughts on the subject, it’s a shame many do not, especially with todays fuel/electricity prices!

I do think the police should do a similar video, perhaps with longer drive and may put the results on radio to remind other drivers. But thanks very much. It will help to keep the roads safe👍

Hi Mat and Ann, Thoroughly enjoyed watching your driving experiment and I'm instinctively inclined to adopt Ann's approach for safety and enjoyment as I drive a petrol car without cruise control. So much to learn watching your videos - thank you.

Great video! Time difference would've been larger if there were more red lights like in Miami. It's better to have a relaxed drive.

That was a brilliant video! I love videos with both of you in very entertaining! All rushing does is increase stress, use more fuel and gets you nowhere!!! On a lesson with my Dad I had a van overtake me, he got to the same place 1 minute before me and I wasn't going excessively slow!!! The pigeon talk and spotting the puzzle in the road was hilarious!!! Keep up the great work 👍

Thanks for this video which proves hardly any time is saved by rushing. At traffic lights, some drivers race away. You catch them up at the next set of lights and arrive just as they change to green. The other drivers been waiting maybe a minute. They don't save much time but if they do, they have been breaking the speed limit, overtaking when unsafe and generally putting their lives and others at risk. It's a shame these drivers have not watched this video.

It's hard to do a "rush" video on a driving instruction channel because most people who rush don't stick to the speed limits. There is a line between driving like you've stolen a car and are running from police and sticking a few more mph when the hazard count is low for a particular stretch. However I think lights are a big equaliser unless you can get enough lead that you are 1 light cycle ahead. The amount of times I've passed who I perceive as a dawdler only to be held at a red 30 seconds or more longer and the "dawdler" comes along behind me. I've witnessed my manager driving to work doing one overtake after another until about 4 cars ahead of me in a conga. I'm not sure if this is simply because slow drivers are so common that they clog the road during the day time. I usually get about a minute at 60 before being slowed back down to 45 again if I drive on almost any public road during the day time. Also large commercial vehicles that have a 10 mph lower speed limit.

Unfortunately when most people “rush” they more then likely speed which would effect the times significantly I would say.

Hi Mat and Ann.. I failed my drivning test because of slowing down at Round about (with 4 minors converted into serious fault) by getting into 2nd gear and a speed of ~10MPH.. In the last examiner said, even though there was no car, you were slowing down and other cars in the lane beside you were driving on.. Any advice would be appreciated..

If you can see the roundabout is clear to enter then you should keep driving at a confident speed. Slowing down excessively for no reason could frustrate other drivers and cause danger. Practice looking right earlier to see who is on the roundabout, so you can plan what to do well before you get to the Give Way line.

I am perfectly relaxed at speed. Driving without any urgency wastes valuable time. Even 5 minutes per hour saved makes a significant saving over time. I spent 40 year driving as a part of my job. Your slow driving would have lost me a lot of money. Slow diving adds to road congestion. You only focused on being slow and didn't take any consideration of your effects on other road users who had to follow you. Driving up to 50,000 miles a year I had only one minor accident,, caused by another driver. 40 hours driving per week with 5 minutes saved per hour. 200 minutes. Per year that's over 166 hours saved. To me that's a lot of time I did not have to spend driving at all and is a far bigger economy save.

It’s definitely not worth rushing and you make more mistakes by rushing and you feel stressed and under pressure and it’s not safe but if you take your time it’s safe and you feel calm and relaxed and you enjoy the drive..it always makes me laugh..when someone overtakes you thinking they’ve gained something but then you sit behind them further down the road at the red traffic light 🚦😁

A lot of it, Is drivers have got to be in front of the learner, I see it all the time as a bus driver myself, they have got to be in front, and it don't save much time, you might save 30 seconds max to be honest
