DIY, camping, and gardening - all on a tight budget, with health, ease, and sustainability in mind.
We'll cover everything from SUV camping in a 5th gen 4Runner, to building a stunning outdoor kitchen, or a home gym on the back patio, cheapo garden hacks, upcycle projects, even a little foraging.
Based in Phoenix, Arizona -- so all our gardening info is about 3 months earlier than the rest of the country, and there's a lot of complaining about the heat.
[May contain snark and occasional cussing - but not enough to get demonetized.]

Great Job!
I would highly advise people not to use Temu because of security reasons and if you value your privacy.
👍
LOVE the tshirt!!
It's one of her favorites -- I'll let her know 😁
I found black widow nests in ours. Careful folks! Also, time to detail that engine bay!!!😊😅
Yikes!!! 😱 LOL check out 13:48 (our resident car detail nerd couldn't stand the dust either 😂) kzread.info/dash/bejne/kWGky9mLibGpfqw.htmlsi=9dleWLYOxnyIuNCd&t=828
Wow! Huge difference! I need to install these, too. Thanks for showing us how it’s done. 😃
You bet! 😁
Your happy hour wine opening was just. "TO cool for school" looked like a nice time..except the rain
300 days of sunshine in Arizona . The other 65 days are when I’m camping 😂
@@ShoestringMartha lol!!
check where your oil filter is. for 20+yrs i have been ging threw the top or bottom to change it. about 4 yrs ago i found if i turn the steering i can access the oil filter from behind the drivers side rear of the front tire. front lights are allways hard to do. you have all the raditor grill work in the way. the rear lights are usually easier. one project i have done is to install fogs on the rear down low & wire them into the back up light wires. more light when backing up at night.
Nice! Some day, I'll upgrade the rear bumper and chase lights will definitely be included.
That crab patty looks delish!!!
I would have freaked with a skunk in my camp😮
LOL they're harmless as long as everyone stays calm -- which is hard to do when there are skunks around. 😂
Thank you for sharing the real process! :)
Great views and yummy food go together perfectly!! tfs
I love that you showed how you "got into the weeds." Exactly something I expect myself to do haha...and end up with more holes than I use.
That’s why they make wood fill! 😄
I put LED lights in a couple of years ago after I had retina repair surgeries and do not see well at night. Game. Changer.
Sheesh! Those turn signal/DRL bulbs looked like a major PITA to access. Great work!
Those were definitely the hardest! It was much easier on the driver's side, for whatever reason (more room? ability to work right-handed?) . High beams were a piece of cake, low beams weren't bad as long as the gasket is oriented correctly 😬 , and fogs weren't bad either.
I never doubted for one second that you couldnt do it!!! You are very talented and can do anything. Some of us cant plug in a vaccuum...lol
I appreciate your confidence in me 😅
Eeeww. First thing you need a DUST BRUSH...LOL.. you brought the outdoors home with you. GOOD JOB!! ON THE LIGHTS. My old 2000 is getting a bit dim too
I drive down a lot of dirt roads 😂
@ShoestringMartha yes you do...beautiful ones!!
I want to know if I am the only one keeping an eye out for packrat mummies while you were opening up the covers 😂
🤣🤣🤣 That was 4R project 1 of 4. The third involves opening the dash, and that’s where I’ll probably have the most… luck. 🤢
@@ShoestringMartha oh no 😂
What is that work light you were using under the hood? Looks nice, maybe rechargeable?
It’s the WL3 from Klarus and it is rechargeable. You can find it here and if you use code SHOESTRINGMARTHA it’ll knock 10% off 😉 klarustore.com/?ref=zi9y7szd
@@ShoestringMartha That's so cool....so much so, that I ordered it. Thank you for the reply! Glad I found your YT channel.
Glad you’re here! 😄 I think you’ll really like the light. It’s wicked bright, long battery life, strong magnet. Takes a minute to figure out the buttons, since they select both brightness and color, but then it’s easy.
Thanks for posting this. Not a particularly "fun" job but what a difference it made! 👍
LED lights are a total game changer! I put some on my SUV a few months ago and wow! camping in remote places now is amazing. You did a great job! I had them installed for me lol
I completely understand why 😅😅😅
Thank you so very much for posting this! I have the same 4Runner and my lights are so stinking dim at night. i have been meaning to change them out as well and you just saved me soooooooooo much time! I truly appreciate you!
Yay! Glad I could help 😁😁😁
i have a jeep, and you know we’re like a cult 🤣 anyways i think you mentioned watching some Korean camping shows - if you haven’t heard of this one FISH13 it’s amazing! the camping gear he has is off the hook! 👍🏻
My partner has a Gladiator so of course we have some good-natured Jeep-Toyota rivalry 😄 I do watch his channel! I love when he brings his elderly cat 🥰 All the gear is very cool, but looks tiring to set up 😅 Also noticed a Taco joined the fleet 👏
Sweet!!! 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻
Whilst I love the idea of using an ammo box (the Stanley lunch pail is almost £100 here in the UK) this seems a lot of unnecessary messing around.
If no work surface is needed, one could just chuck all their gear inside and call it a day
Awesome! You may also need to lower your lights. A lot of people complain that they get flashed when you switch to LED. I especially did because I also have a lift so I made adjustments. Could you do a video on cleaning the engine bay? 😁 I would love to see that!
I have started using my DRLs only when needed, just for that reason. Next time I crack open the fender area I’ll fiddle with the aim. I’ll be sure to better document the next engine bay cleaning 😄 I think she just masked off the battery terminals with plastic, pressure washed, and wiped it dry. 🤔
Gunther's got some low clearance issues! But he makes up for it with how cute he is ;)😅
Btw, I found the perfect camping creamer solution: Nestle La Lecheria sweetened condensed milk with caramel or vanilla. All 6 little bottles sold from Amazon. Not excellent but pretty tasty & morr portable!
Nice! The Eagle Brand plain flavor has been my go-to and I love that they have a resealable pouch now (that lasts me *months*). But good to know there are flavors, if I want to brand out.
@@ShoestringMartha i'll have to try it :)
Your dog is so dang cute!!!
My van was horribable. Good on you, very useful video thank you.
That's a tuff job. I remember muttering several colorful explitives while trying to change just one bulb on my truck, so your doing all of those is applause worthy. 👏👌👍
lol I may have cut out some cussing 😅
That sunrise is phenomenal!
It really was!
What an amazing peaceful place....NOOOO. NOT REALITY. EEEWWW. PEOPLE. LOL!!
This came out so well. Its incredibly satisfying to use these projects in camp and think "I did that." Really nice job!
Thank you!
Omg..please!! Put Gunther in safe..that awful owl will take him. Wow..those bugs are loud!! Hope they don't come here
He's usually in bed long before the raptors appear 😄
Awesome work and so practical 😍
Thanks so much!
I remember some of your first videos including Gunther… He could barely walk a half a mile. Look at him now, scampering over rocks and trucking along behind you or in front of you leading the way down the trail. Did he come with the name Gunther or did you name him? Because he absolutely looks just like a Gunther! Excellent video as always.
Little dude probably had a pretty sedentary life, before I got a hold of him. He had no idea what he was in for 😂 He was already named, and since he had it for 9 years and it definitely fit, I saw no reason to change it.
Were those stuck people trying to get up the trail in just a car? Lol what were they thinking.
I think they came down the trail the same way I did before I turned off. Which is graded forest road and pretty easy, other than some deep ruts. But once you make that turn (that they got pulled back to), it gets very rocky very fast. 🫣 I imagine they were driving down the highway, saw the sign for Sedona, and took it, hoping for a short cut.
Is there a chance you have a document of all the materials & instructions to make this ?
Unfortunately I do not. It is on my list to make one for my Patreon shop.
Thank you for the reviews and ideas. Happy Trails.
Your little painting is adorable!! Ears not floppy enough for the G Man...lol..not being nasty.
One key important ingredient missing 😢 NO MR G...i hope its only because of rules and not something wrong
This was 2 years ago - before Gunther’s gotcha day 😉
@ShoestringMartha ok..thank you. Guess I didn't look at date. Sorry to bother you...still a great video!! Looked like a good time. Stay safe
Never a bother!
Where can I get the battery from for 16" geek fan
They used to be available on Amazon, but I just looked and don't see them there anymore. 😐
I’m so glad you posted this! I’ve been looking for something like your idea. I loved the clip of Ross yelling, “Pivot!” A great little memory from….back in the day. I can’t believe I even wrote that but, I’m still in denial about getting older. I also appreciate your showing the clip of you wearing a headband…as a gardener I can drip buckets from my head…something that is so unexpected. Just nother reason I wear a hat :). Thanks
LOL aren't we all in denial about that 😄 I often wear a bandana in the summer, either on my head or around my neck. I soak it in water first, so it's like my own personal evaporative cooler -- classic desert rat trick 😉
Absolutely EPIC view 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
If you are eligible, be sure to get the generous military discount at Stanley!
I am not, but I have friends 😏 Thanks for the tip!
omg I have just found your channel, you are amazing with the ideas for your vehicle. I have a small Berlingo and can not decide whether to take the seats out and have something permanent or go with your fab ideas.....wish i had your skill though...keep these vids coming
Thanks and welcome! It's been 4 years and I *still* haven't decided whether or not I'm taking my seats out. So far, I've managed to avoid it, but that could always change. 😂
Poor baby G. I'm sorry he's suffering. His dinner sounds great..but leave the sardines out..replace with canned smoked trout or salmon...ill bring my own bowl...lol!! Nope..I'm not a people person either...like my dogs..people are ok...in my pink box on you tube..LOL!!!!!
Unfortunately for him, I had to change his diet again, when we found his bladder stones. So now he eats a really boring and expensive prescription urinary care kibble, topped with his heart meds (for his murmur). Lil dude is kind of a hot mess, medically. 😞
@@ShoestringMartha but he is so worth it...1000% love n loyalty and absolutely adorable.
Is this good enough to replace an ac ? I know it won’t work as well but want to know if it’s at least more manageable? I’m in nyc the summers do get pretty dry just need it for the next two months
Definitely not equivalent to AC. It would be sufficient for a single room, in dry conditions - like, below 20% I’d say. 🤞🏻
Guy sounds very weird...or maybe a veteran who was having some trouble with mental health..or drink etc ANYWAY .HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY!!!! sorry you had to have a bad night. But at least it was a beautiful place!!! And skunks didnt "bomb" your camp
Thank you 🥰 He definitely had something going on, probably not helped by an entire case of beer. 😒
Interesting flap.jack cup Do you not have to cook it? Never heard of it before..looked weird..gooy...was it good or eeeewwww?
It was like warm pancake batter. Def goopy. Would not buy again - even on sale. 👎🏼
Omg..im sorry..i was screaming at you!!! I cant imagine having freinds like that!! They are awesome. Poor baby G must have been terrified.
He was oblivious and slept through the whole thing 😄
