Nice! You're so handy. :) Those little plastic buttons break over time. The ones holding my driver's door panel did and the it kept falling down and trapping me inside. I had to climb out the passenger side, with arthritic knees, and those seat belt receivers stand straight up. Ouch! I was going to take Monty, my 2009 Pontiac Montana van, to the garage, but my son fixed it with two packages of new buttons and a lot of muscle, sweat and a few choice words. When my engine light went on and my AC turned off to save the engine, it turned out I needed engine coolant. When my battery wouldn't hold a charge, it turned out to be a cracked battery connector and not enough driving. I'm not handy, but I have a good mechanic that only fixes what needs fixing. Thanks for the video. It's nice to see what can be fixed at home, if you've got the muscle and flexibility. :) Jon in rural BC, Canada

Always! I can't stand working unergonomically 😑

All I know how to do is change out the air filter and cabin filter, check the dipsticks and coolant reservoir. So much to learn about !

Great job! x2 on loctite for future jobs. (probably not needed for this - although the nuts did come off!) The lightest strength version of loctite is nice to have in your toolbox.

I had this EXACT same problem with my 5th Gen. The exact same nut came off and was making all sorts of noises in the trunk lid. Super helpful video, thank you!

As one of the 5 people that needed this, thx. I just finished doing mine. I had to remove the garnish to attend to some rust happening in the 2 corners. Happens when the garnish rubs the paint off. Cleaned it up, painted it, put some 3M abrasion tape over it and good to go. I also added a thin plastic washer on those bolts to push the garnish out just a millimeter or two so it won’t rub in the future. That garnish removal is the most painful DIY I’ve done on my truck and let me tell you, I’ve done a lot to this thing. Thx for a great video👍🏻

Great job 😁👍. I have also used KZread Uni. to repair a drooping rear wiper, remove the stow-n-go seats in my T&C minivan and to "break" into my van when the doors locked with my key fob on the driver's seat! 😲 We were camping in a remote location about 5 miles down a dirt road away from any towns about dusk. It all turn out okay 😊 fortunately. AND those are just the things related to "camping" van! Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy and learn from your videos.

Thank goodness for newfangled solutions to newfangled problems. I used to have to use the shop manual for my 89 Land Cruiser. Now they’re only available digitally, because vehicles are too complicated to fit into books 😭

Thank you for this video! I'm one of the 5 people who need to tackle this job too, there is something rattling around in my back door. I hear it every time I need to open it. Too bad you couldn't find that missing nut... the roads you drive sometimes will surely loosen it wherever it's lodged in now! LOL! I also hit the dirt roads in my travels too!

Always keep a spare 10mm socket. It’s the one most widely used, and the one most widely lost.

Martha, those could work loose again, so get some lock-tight to keep those from falling off, I don't know why Toyota doesn't do that at the factory.

Next time put a dot of nail polish on the threads. It works the same way as Loctite. Just a little dot will hold it into place and the vibrations won’t loose them.

@@ShoestringMartha dollar store type for me. It doesn’t matter what kind, it just locks up the threads. Plus Loctite is supposed to be used with the primer. I use it all the time at work.

Jumping in even with the nut noise gone proved to be a good thing. I don't have a 4Runner but just learned here that the lift area for the hatch is called a "garnish" WTH? Who knew? I first thought it was the name on something Toyota related. But nope. Ha. Did you already know that or did you come across that term?

I did not know until I stalked the 4Runner forums, doing research for the fix. I very nearly added a graphic of a lemon wedge and a parsley spring on top of it, but decided against it. 😃

I saw another guy do it! There’s a small access panel you have to remove, and then you can attach a strap to the release cable.
