    Hi, I am adding a railing to my small front stoop. I have 4x4 posts and I want to attach one of them to the house. The house wall is brick but it is EXTREMELY uneven. I don't know what to call that type of brick but they are full of bumps and when I place anything straight and flat against that wall, I see spaces as big as 1/2" - or even more. Do I need some kind of shims to put between the 4x4 and the house wall? If so, how do I attach those shims behind the post. I don't want concrete/masonry screws to show behind the post and I don't know what to do. Please help. I would really appreciate it. I have seen quite a few videos on KZread but I haven't seen a case where the bricks are so uneven. I would appreciate your advice. Kind regards.

  • @Bacrenfencing
    @Bacrenfencing9 күн бұрын

    Just attach the post like I did in this video and then use fence slats scribed to the wall to cover the gaps between the post and the wall. No need to shim if you have a couple of good points of contact.

    Shadow line is better. If you've got a small shop, then the space savings of the Makita win-out. If you also have measured stops for repeat cuts in your shop, then the line doesn't really matter.

  • @Bacrenfencing
    @Bacrenfencing10 күн бұрын

    Agreed, I use the makita for the space saving and also use the dewalt for angled cuts using the shadow line, so much easier to get an accurate cut with the shadow line. The Makita laser is terrible.

    IF THIS DOESN’T WORK!!! Try this because i was trying this method for hours with no joy… Plug the unit in and SWITCH IT ON. Attach the water and turn it on to the best pressure you can get. Leave the GUN PART attached with no attachment on. Spray water through the gun and shake the unit around to help clear the air. After about 30 seconds it will kick into life by itself!!
