How To STOP Fence Posts Rotting / Install postsaver sleeves

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to stop fence posts from rotting at the base / ground level. In this video I show you how you can guard against fence posts rotting at the base where they meet the ground. Fence posts always rot at the base due to microbes, bacteria and moisture being present in this location. Here I install Postsaver sleeves and Fence armour protection.
Here I show a couple of excellent products that you can use to help increase the life of your fence posts. I use a product called Postsaver and also another product called Fence Armor.
I show how to install these and also explain the benefits of using them.
I hope that the video provides some value and all products featured can be found in the description below -

Wow Barry, this is awesome! Thank you so much for showcasing Fence Armor and Postsaver Sleeves. Just a little tip about Fence Armor, the best installation is about 1" above the ground to sit at trimmer level. Very well done and we appreciate the support.

Great video I’ve been fencing since 2001 commercial and residential. With my fence company I’ve been looking to offer the sleeves wish they weren’t 10$ a piece but like you said investment with fence boards 7.00 a piece best to protect those posts

You could do that, but not sure how long that would protect the post for. At least you get a 20 year guarantee with this product. Thanks for the comment

This is great but most customers are so tight they will not pay the extra cost. What chance you got. Would a heatgun do the job.

Hi John, I know what you are saying, that is my experience too. I think that making videos about the products benefits will help though because I can now send them a link to my video attached to my quotation(s) and let them see that the option is available. Yes, a good heat gun or smaller plumbers blow torch will do the job as well, just takes a little longer to apply. Thanks for the comment 👍😍

Great video. I've been thinking about building a wooden frame for the Wisteria plant the Mrs has planted except I was worried about wood rot til now! Now I know how to protect the wood thanks to your video! Many thanks. PS does putting the screws through the Post Saver compromise the protection a little bit? As it gives moisture a path into the wood. And would it void the guarantee?

Thanks, no, putting the screws through does not void the warranty as Fence Armour is a postsaver product. Thanks for the comment

When I put the sleeves on the posts they melted didn't have the flame close to them, don't know what I'm doing wrong I ruined 3 of them

You are best to have the flame set on a low setting (i.e not gushing out at high pressure). Once on a low setting the key is to keep moving the torch quickly, you kind of get a feel for it once you have done a few. I had a few melt when first trying to put them on but it was just because my flame was on too high a setting and a lingered in one spot too long........there is a knack to getting these on. Thanks for the comment

You won't have the same problems with a concrete post I have a lot of fencing in my garden and the concrete posts have been in at least 34 years since the house was built and there still standing, wooden posts are a complete waste of time and money👍

Concrete posts are ugly in my opinion, wood posts are used for the natural look and will last for 20-30 years if properly installed and looked after. Concrete tends to chip and crack over time but they do last a hell of a long time ! Thanks for the comment 👍

@@Bacrenfencing Thanks for the reply do you follow D&J Projects on KZread they do a lot of fencing for customers and they make and use there own concrete posts on there fencing Jobs. yes concrete posts might be ugly and can chip but they are a more superior post to use compared to wooden posts and will last far longer as well👍

@@Josh-fk8ml Thanks Josh, yes I do follow Dave and Stevie ! and like the look of their post / panel combinations but in my part of the world, wooden posts are requested pretty much 95% of the time. Concrete posts are rarely used up here in Scotland as the panels that slot between them are not ideal for the extreme winds we get up here. Hit & Miss fencing and single slatted fencing is most common up here. Thanks for the reply !

@@Bacrenfencing I live near the coast in Northern Ireland and we also get extreme winds as well as I said I have concrete posts in my garden near 34 years and there still standing. There is no way wooden posts would last 34 years in any garden, the fence I have in the moment is at least 15 years old the D rails are bolted in with 10mm coach bolts with a 10mm washer and 10mm hex nut attached to them and the wooden slates are attached to the D rails. All I am trying to say is wooden posts are not worth the time and money spent on them as they will not last anyway thanks for the reply 👍

@@Josh-fk8ml No probs Josh, I'm not arguing with you as obviously concrete posts last longer but most people do not like the look of them in my experience. I supply what the client asks for and usually that is wood posts. Thanks for the comment and give my love to the Emerald Isle !
