Yes, it remains to be seen who really stands to benefit from emerging AI tech. I think we can assume it won’t be for the wellbeing and wealth of the vast majority of humanity. If anything it will likely increase the gap between the haves and the have nots. But, we’ll see…

Open source has its own set of risks as the tech advances to AGI/ASI. I don't see any enthusiasm in the open source community to address such risk. Perhaps I'm missing something. It certainly isn't happening with OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Meta, etc etc etc........although Meta kind of straddles the line in regard to corporate/open source. Good content btw. Update, regarding Sam Altman and UBI. I just saw his recent interview where he announced that OpenAI has some news to reveal this coming Monday. In that interview he completely backtracked on UBI (surprise, surprise) saying that rather than a UBI, he is considering offering free "compute" in the cloud instead. The chance that the libertarian and neoliberal economic types that dominate AI tech will distribute UBI is exactly zero.

she's only focusing on the flops. No mention of alphafold 2 or 3, the level of complexity in chatbots, image generation, video generation, music generation etc... she just picked a few flops to try to create a narrative that AI isn't good. It's like making a montage of lebron's missed shots to say he's a bad basketball player lmao

We don't need a company with Open in the name; we need to abolish intelectual property, which is a goal that lies beyond many other important steps forward for the Left. We need fair elections, at least better than First Past The Post voting; it would be even better to choose our leaders randomly, but we still need to get rid of the rampant gerrymandering! And getting rid of Citizens United in a timely manor will require big moves.

People who are obsessed with AI have their head stuck in a sci-fi dream where AI running on quantum systems will help humanity explore the stars, but right now I'm more concerned about if it will actually help solve the big problems we currently face. Poverty, war, disease, that stuff. The guessing machines are promising but with people like Altman at the helm it's just going to exacerbate income inequality, fake news, privacy invasion, all while feeding us a steady diet of generative bread and circus. Altman went to those swanky parties to woo Hollywood, right? We're supposed to trust him that after he accomplishes his plan of hoarding all the money and all the hardware, they'll save the world.

BTW that's the claim I've been making since this pump and dump all started and what always gets me is how far it will go. I simply can not invest in things that don't make sense to me and so I miss out on all the gains that the pump and dump provides.

Its really easy - our society is deeply driven by the economy. Economy is the most important social system - by far. And what are the most important elements how our ecoomy is working? Overall and permanent growth ... and exploitation. In the end its an ideology. And we really exploit absolutely anything. Environment, society, other human, our families, ourselves. Even the richest guys in the world - no matter how sociopathic they might be - arent really "happy" people. Cause even they somehow notice how destructive our economical system is. Even if OpenAI was fully non-commercial - the rest of the world is. It just doesnt matter. And I also dont even think that these biollionairs and top manager of huge corporations are pure evil and the classical movie villain. They are just so deep caught in the ideology of what we call economy... they just cant act differently. Like the noble people 300 years ago couldnt act differently. And to maintain the ideology they really do everything. Like the really crazy lies you are talking about. They feel it just as a necessary action. And they cant claim other than they are doing it "for the world". Like the noble people claimed they were "god chosen". And they are right that wealth it "trickle down"... but the rich people try to let as little trickle down as possible. Cause they think this is how it HAS to be. And so they lie to themselves and all of us that it becomes really ridiculous. Like all ideological brainwashed people. And when an ideology is leading in a society the people who are on top profit by the ideology the most and will do anything to maintain the ideology. Btw - there have been times when "Investment" meant to not only throw money in a direction to get back more money... it meant also "BEING invested" - being interested in a product or a company. Support them. Believing in something that has a clear benefit and have a clear idea what this benefit will be - beyond money. This is over for a looooooong time. AI will be mostly bad for most people. And the reason is not AI. Its our social systems. Anyway - thanks for this video. Unfortunately it wont change our system. And I am sorry but I dont think the hope is justified. Unfortunately not. We will go on exploiting anything. And will destroy our society. Maybe we will already do this in our current century.

The purpose of A.I. is no different from the purpose of any new technology - profits and power. In order to A.I. to increase profits and power, we working class humans will have to continue working so that we can "earn" money and spend it on goods and services that the owners want to sell us. The desire to use A.I. for power means that we working class humans are the enemy of the class of people who own capital. It's a bleak world.

I really love the idea of a T shaped person! Actually, I've just turned 24 a few days ago, and I was wondering why I decided to be a skin therapist while I studied English at university! I was so ashamed and thought that it was mostly about money! But here I am, watching your video all of a sudden, realizing that it all was meant to be! So, to me, studying English was the vertical part of the T and skin care would be on the surface! Combined together, I can translate English books related to skincare to my language or host podcasts about them while still being a skin therapist! Thank you soooo much for this video❤❤❤

With AI "open-source" is a misleading term as there is almost no source. "Open Weights" is a term that has emerged to describe models where the weights and biases are released, but not the training data and sadly this describes the majority of "open-source" models. I'd argue models without training data are closed-source "free-beer" as their training data remains closed, and in the AI paradigm the data IS the source. There are a few truly open-source models out there that released their training data along with their weights and biases, but let's not get hoodwinked by people who characterize "free models" as "open-source". They are not. To be "open-source" they need release the training data and processes required to rebuild them from scratch.

I have never heard such a huge amount of 'blue sky' nonsense in my life. Most of the people who hold these low-level AI-vulnerable jobs are in them because the position they hold represents a hard stop on their career advancement. The Peter Principle suggests that individuals often reach their highest level of incompetence in a hierarchical organization. Thus, it is unlikely that a security guard will transition directly into a career in robotics, as such a career change requires significantly different skills. It's akin to expecting a marketing VP to become a software engineer.Even if workers pursue such transitions, they will compete with candidates whose educational and career backgrounds better align with the position's requirements. As a hiring manager, it's clear that an embedded systems programmer with ten years of experience is a better match for an AI development role than a former accountant. This resembles the situation when thousands of auto workers attended 'IT Institutes' to transition into the technology industry. Many of these workers completed their training just as IT jobs were being outsourced to other countries, limiting their career prospects.

i started thinking about this in about 2009 when the movie surrogates came out where they were able to show realistic ' young looking ' faces on older actors - i predicted that in 10 years - no video would be allowed as evidence in courts because they would be able to fake everything ... just like in 1981 - when i first heard digital sound on my radio shack color computer - i predicted that in 10 years that we would be walking around with music players that had no moving parts -> i was wrong - it took 20 years - - well - i predict that ai will convolute every avenue of communications with lies - fakes - propaganda - so much that no one will trust any communication except - hands on - face to face - transactions - it is already happening on yewspewed - fake thumbnail pics with impossible scenes - to click bait the gullible - the last one i saw a day or two ago - was something about people helping animals - and the pic was a lion perched on the side of a cliff not far from the top but only could reach its paw up to where a person was reaching out to grab it to help it get up the cliff . - i didn't even bother to watch it because i knew the pic must be fake even though it looked authentic - - that's when it hit me that ai is going to poison every single form of communication and NOTHING can be done about it - - if you think that cheaters in video games like call of duty are bad and why can't they be stopped then wait until you are surrounded by ai liars and cheaters on every form of communication ! ! !
