Josh Brown started Predatory Plants in 2009 as a side-project while working at Microsoft in Silicon Valley. He sold greenhouse-grown carnivorous plants at local farmer’s markets and on this website. The business remained small until Josh decided to quit his desk-job in 2015 so he could dedicate more time to his passion.
Predatory Plants has subsequently grown into one of the premier carnivorous plant companies in the United States. With over 25,000 square feet of greenhouse space, Predatory Plants has become the largest producer of seed-grown Nepenthes and sundews in the nation.
The unique and amazing plants we produce can be found here on our website, Amazon.com, at our store in Half Moon Bay, CA, and at local nurseries in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Is it ok to feed smaller fly traps food that is in a jar from Amazon
lol every time I hear about winter outside I think "nope, they will die".... most videos are from america, so info is from your guys over there.... but living in northern europe means a lot longer winters and minus degrees between -10 to -20 Celcius in winter.... which can be between october/november until march if the winter is long, like this year that passed, with frist every night and day.... so..... Garage I guess for us?
Do you think direct sunlight 4-6 hours in zone 9b in the summer would be too much?
Can they eat rolly Polly bugs?
okay, but how do I give it a LIVE fly….. i cant get the fly to go inside the trap, it will just escape. again. 😭
Thanks bruh explains why mine is green
Do you keep some indoors? Is tap water not too rich or bad as it includes chlorine? I have had good results with filtered water.
Very helpful thank you 🙏🏻
How often should I spray my fly traps with Maxsea fertilizer? I’ve also noticed some of my fly traps are growing deformed leaves from the spider mites. How often should I spray them with insecticide?
What’s the best way to fertilize my nepenthes? I’ve been using maxsea. Ppm is 165. putting 5 mL of maxsea fertilizer in each of my pitchers every two weeks.
Many recommended me a 50-50 mix of perlite and sphagnum. When should perlite be used?
My question is, that distilled water is quite expensive. I collect rain water, but sometimes in hot summer I run low. Can distilled water from tumble dryer used as an alternative, or it would kill the fly trap. Normal plants won't be harmed by it, but vft are sensitive.
sale ??
Okay so red form doesn't start as a red form.
This is amazing, thank you! Curious, how do you sterilize the moss before using it?
What soil you are using to your Venus flytrap sir?
I just got seeds and people have got me so worried about the soil and can I get that from? How much is it? Also is it hard to grow from seeds?
So MANY thanks for the fine video. I believe that the knowledge you share is giving me the ability to successfully cultivate these plants outdoors, where I live. Thank-you for sharing the success.
Living in the Mojave Desert we have no choice but to grow indoors because the extreme heat and dry desert conditions will kill Venus Flytraps. I'm growing very healthy plants on my east window sill with about 4 hours of direct sun and a humidifier.
Why doesn't my flytrap get bigger. It's staying so small. The traps aren't even big enough to catch a gnat.
I bought a 50watt 6500k light for mine, I live in Seattle and am trying to have it a be a window plant. Will the light on it during the winter mess with it's instinct to dormant during winter?
I am in the step where my cuttings created roots and may be ready for their individual pots. After I pot them, do I have to keep them in a bag for humidity? Or can I start adapting it to their new spot?
Can I use a grow light?
Sterilized Spagnum moss? How do you sterilize the moss?
I will try to plant, those in Brazil, some great flyeaters will start to apear here!
New venusflytrap owner here. I live in Wilmington, and have for many years. Just decided to take one in yesterday and ive become obsessed. Named mine Jackie Chan. Thank for for the helpful info!
Are garden sprays ok for these plants!
Amazing
What kind of light and water requirements does this plant have?
can i do salad shrimp?
Can I get that big red venus fly trap
I had these in vitro and they flowered in the flasks they look so cute!
My Venus fly trap has been closed with a fly for like 4 weeks. I fed it about a week after I bought it. Why is it taking so long to open? It also had black leaves after it closed but now it’s growing new leaves.
Great video, thank you Josh. I wish you much success!
Did you have to cut off the plant and get rid of it along with the mouse?
So I started some cutting and put them in spagnum moss. But the spagnum keeps getting mold. How can I get rid of the mold and keep it from coming back
How do I know it’s not going well?
Any updates on your Glorious Angel hybrid?
Definitely asking for this for my birthday
Thank you so much for this information. I looked long and hard to find someone like you that explains things very well
My Venus Flytrap’s name is Seymour of COURSE 😅 I am a new carnivorous plant owner. Thank you for the tips! Do you prop them up or just leave them? My bulb is weird shaped so they lay all different
Well done mate 👍🦘
Great video, I’m wanting to raise some of these guys, but wanting to do it right. When is the best time to purchase from you? Also 20°F? I live in Missouri and it gets below freezing in the winter a lot. I don’t want to kill them off.
Hi i have one of these 1 foot from a grow light , its dewing and flowering but the leaves are curling backwards , iv looked everywere and cant find an answer lol have u any idea what it could be ?
I’ve noticed my basil plant is struggling a little bit. I separated the parent plant from them, and the basil plant have the roots from the parent. All the conditions are fine, right light right humidity. The leaves of the basils are growing just fine, but growing smaller and smaller pitchers. I’ve sprayed them with a diluted dose of Maxsea fertilizer once a month. I thought when you separate the basils from the parent and the basils have the roots of the parent plant that the size of the pitchers skyrocket so I don’t know what to do
So when there cold they turn red or something
I got my first cephalotus about a month ago. Really cool looking plants. Mine sadly died back during the first couple of weeks I had it and I started panicking but gladly didn't throw it out. It's now growing new leaves and new juvenile pitchers. Maybe in a few months time I will try to take some leaf pullings. Great guide and definitely gave a bit more confidence to do this
Do I need to feed every mouth for it to be considered fed?
thanks for breaking this down, I was so intimidated up until right now! thank you
How long it take for opening after digestion and explain me please
